The speedo and the odometer read from the transmission, not the wheel itself. Gearing changes change how fast the wheel spins at any given rpm, so the sensor reads incorrectly. It's not a big deal, the healer isn't too expensive and is really easy to set up.
This is very interesting. My VFR is due a new chain & sprockets & I was thinking about playing around with the number of teeth on the cogs. How & why does doing this affect the data the bike's sensors feed into the odometer & speedo though?!
Those Jeeps last forever. I think I'm going to go -1 +2 myself already have my speedo healer just need to hook it up. Is it plug and play or do you have to do some splicing?
It's plug and play, but you have to make sure you get the right harness for the bike. The company's website will guide you in which harness you need though, so it's not too big of a deal. Just disconnect the sensor and plug the Y into the two connections.
if I could keep them both, I would. One of my first vehicles was a 1988 Cherokee that we beat to hell and back and she kept running. Unfortunately the simple fact is that the truck is more comfortable, easier to drive, gets marginally better mileage, and is roomier for me and whoever is riding shotgun.
Nice to see your gps and camera mounts man, i need to make some sort of device to do just that one day, but first my power points, I need to make a nice set of powerpoints for the electronics, soon to be on the scoot. :)
The arm comes off pretty easily. It's basically 3 pieces, and there's a knob in the middle of the arm...undo that and it all comes apart. As for install...once you figure out how to do it so it stays tight, it's as easy as taking 2 screws out, and putting two more back in. 5 minutes, maybe.
Yeah, in stock trim she's drag limited to about 148mph. Now it'll bang the rev limiter in 6th (or so I've been told) which puts it at 153-ish, with the corrected speedo. It's borderline overkill on this bike, but I LOVE the way it zips around in traffic now.
The screen of your GPS gave me a seizure. I'm suing. Suing you for all your millions of dollars and for you GPS...yes...the one that gave me the seizure.
Yeah, it's a really simple deal though. It helps to have a GPS unit to check the actual speed against, but if you don't have one then a little math will tell you. I knew the calibration factor for my application a few days before I got the unit though, and actual setup took about a minute. Remind me in Tn and I'll show you.
I wasn't too worried about the speedo being off, but most will agree with me when I say that an accurate odometer is incredibly important. I use mine for a LOT of things, especially preservation of resale value.
No. I'm going to do a video about this soon because of the number of times that comes up, but suffice to say top speed is higher. I'll explain more later.
you have the same motocycle my dad had a wile a go

Oh man, there's a number of options. PowerLet is one of the better setups out there. Most of their setups are fairly modular.

Actually no...it was just a quirk that they all ended up red.

How do you calibrate the speedo healer? Punch in the corrected speed?
invisiblemon 2 years ago
Figure the % difference between indicated and actual, and tell the unit how to modify the indicated (in %) to get to real. In my case, -15.7%

your speedo measures the speed of the transimission?
my ninja gets the speed from the front tire.

How easy is it to isntall the GPS mount? Does it make more sense to keep it permanently mounted or does it come off easily?

Now all you need is a gopro! And about 50 more stickers to get your top end speed back.

Didn't lose any. :P

Really? Not bad. I'd be too scared to do a similar mod for my rex. I mean hell it already goes up at a handful. Would be overkill.

Hahahahaha....yeah, if I had enough crap to be worth a million, I would have had the GPS custom built into the bike. :)

Is there a calibration that needs to be done to the new speed adjuster or is it some magic black box? haha
KEEP THE JEEP!

My bike reads 90 at 78mph. Not a fan of spending $100 on something that I don't find to be necessary though.

Sweet, have you noticed a drop in top end speed at all? Not that most people even use the top end on most of these bikes.
