Before learning this way of idling, I would just run the game normally. The first night of doing that, I got 7 or 8 items. Then I learned this way of doing it and got 3 items, but I wasn't told what they were(I just had to go through my backpack and find out) But lately when I do this, I don't get anything at all. I went idle today for 12 hours, and didn't get a single thing. Am I just not getting lucky, or am I doing something wrong?

I don't think this will work as we need to get IN the game, not just like in the intro page. We still have to click 'continue' and choose our team to get in in order to get hurt ingame. Anyone who has a solution for that can reply to my comment. I haven't tried it yet, but i'm pretty sure it won't work

You know theres a map achivement_idle_noglass In this map it is possible to lvlup your stranges(get some kills) and if you dont want to stand there in server and kill everybody on your own you can just simply do this: type a command +attack in connsole and it will auto shoot with 1st wepon equiped. Soo is it possible to make the same for textmode??? Cuz im not very intrested in idling im more intrested in this strange item kill lvlup! Hope youl make a tut! :)

should be an option titled servers.

had to look for that myself, a lot of people never have a reason to look for it since TF2 provides that in the interface.

Okay, for anyone like me who for some reason doesn't get awarded any items via Shibby's method (I tried for about 10 hours and got nothing), I managed to find a way that works for me:

-textmode -nosound -noipx -novid -nopreload -nojoy -sw -maxplayers 2 +sv_lan 1 +map "itemtest"

Copy and paste that into your Set Launch Options and when you run TF2 it will create a textmode listen server to idle in. It's all automatic, no need to look up or join a server or anything; just launch TF2 and leave it.

TL;DR: Don't even read the sv cheats lines, not important in the slightest.

@DibbzTheLoner either you maxed out your weekly quota or your server had changed maps and the items were given to you but no alerts will be shown.

@DibbzTheLoner You can't earn more than a # of items per week. So lets say you've played about 15 + hours per week , you wont get items using this method , so pretty much just idle if you dont play often and just want items for when you feel like playing it

Google "source tools" click the sourceop thread link. Set up sourcetools and idle like a boss.

Once you set it up, you don't have to fool with command lines ever again. And if you get disconnected from the server, it will reconnect you. If TF2 or steam were to crash for some reason, you can have it auto launch and join a server as long as you are set to auto login on steam.
