All of the drummers that tried out for Dream Theater were amazing. Any of them could have learned the parts and gone on the road, but Mangini knew the band personally. They were all friends!

Didn't it feel like old friends getting together to play some music during Mike's audition? I thought so anyway. The other players seemed nervous and tried to be impressive.

I think it was personal chemistry that ultimately had the final say in their choice you know?

i think when drummers do drum solo live other than the metal drum solo, the bass mics should not be so loud as per normal. this is the perfect sound. i tried playing softly live, a soft hit on the bass drum and it was booming.

I mean Derek is so awesome, but if you see 10 videos of him, you know almost all from his solos... and this one is not the exception, except for that beat at 1:02 (that to be honest I didnt understand at all... its kinda weird thing)

I mean for groove and creativity, the blast from marco is better

I love Marco for being in Necrophagist (even for a while). I love Roddy for his work in Hate Eternal. But I have to say that Marco is way better on experimental stuff. I mean, this guy plays moeller technique while blasting. That ain't your typical death metal drummer. Also, his videos is mostly based on experimental stuff (versatile). Roddy makes videos of becoming an awesome death metal drummer (not equally versatile). They are different, but I love them both.
