  • warning ear rape at 1:14

  • wow .. amazing :D

    Respect from Romania :)

  • umm... You'r channel name is kinda gay? big dicks!.. Otherwise Good effects :p ( I'm straight, but I don't mind what floats you're boat, no offence xDD)

  • @PAINmedia I'm pretty sure the D means "Daniel" (his name)

  • Hi, really cool effects, Is there a way were i can call a particle effect from a script? because i want to be able to control when an effect appears and where.

    Thanks

    Sam

  • @SungSamuel1003 Yeah, of course. Using the visual scripting, you can link an action like a button press, the chracter stepping on something and triggering it, etc. to the "on" event for the particle system. Just open up Kismet and you can control most particle system aspects. Simple things like on/off or more complex things like particle numbers, vertex colors and so on.

  • @iSOBigD Hi, Thanks for the reply, Im a programmer, and not really a big fan of the kismet, is there a way/function that i can use to spawn the effect from the scripts? How would i link the action in the kismet to a function in the scripts, do you have any basic tutorials or know of any?

    Thanks

    Sam

  • Ok. Thanks for the info. Since the Unreal Tech books is made by 3d buzz. It should help me alot. What would I have to use Photoshop for?

  • @Oblivion2550 To make the particle texture and alpha maps. The editor is only used to control the behaviour of particles (life, size over life, rotation, change in vertex color, etc.) but you still need to create different textures for different particles like sparks, smoke, dust, flames, decals, etc.

  • Do you know any tutorials on how to make particles? You did a great job making those! I just started on UT3 editor for the first time. I also brought the Unreal Technology Books. (haven't started learning). I am trying to make a nuke explosion...any tutorials would be nice.

  • @Oblivion2550 While there are many ways to make a nuclear explosion, I don't know of any for the UE3, I've never looked for one. Once you know about special effects and using the UE3 particle editor (and Photoshop, of course), you can create any effect, really, if you know your limitations.

I learned about the UE3 ed from 3DBuzz, they did lots of tutorials for the "UT3 Bonus DVD" which you can probably "find" online. ;) Look up 3DBuzz and UT3 or UDK.

  • Most of this looks like it could also be possible with Unreal Engine 2 (for which I made a couple of Effects/Emitters), but nevertheless good work!

  • amazing toolset

  • Heyy do you know if its possible to use ue3 / udk simply for realtime effects and backgrounds for MOVIES? I'm working on an animated short, all done in maya, but the particles and fluids take way to long to render. Just wondering if I could say use the cascade / material editor in unreal, and take that out to composite in after effects along with my maya data.

And if the effects are not directly exportable maybe I can put a green background behind to get around it?

  • 0:57 HADOKEN!

  • sorry, butt still not good enough..

  • nicely done!

  • You're really getting me excited about this engine :D i can't wait to get right into it and just start making shit XD

  • Well Epic has just recently publicly released the Unreal Engine 3 SDK which you can use for free on non-commercial products without having to even buy any games.

I'm using the editor which came with UT3, but with the new SDK, you just need to download it from Epic's site.

  • im totally new to realtime effects.

im guessing you have planes or cylinders with alpha textures on them?

Do you know of any good tutorials whilst I look on the net in forums?

    be thankful for any help.

  • They're the same as regular particle systems except you can't use voxels like FumeFX has, for example.

So yeah, they're mainly facing planes with a material applied to each particle. In the UE3 you can animate maps in the material, add bumps, alpha, glows, etc. so you can get some very complex effects going.

You can also use geometry (any imported model) so you can use that for debris, muzzle flashes, etc.

Look for 3D Buzz UT3 video tutorials for "Cascade", the particle editor.

  • 500 fps? o.O

  • Yeah, while you're looking at the particle itself plus some windows with the particle properties.

When you actually put the effects in a complete level with characters running around, the frame rate goes down but of course I make all my effects in such a way that they slow down the game as little as possible.

  • nice work there

  • i have GOW2 and UT3 for the 360.

Is it at all possible for me to use Unreal Engine 3 and mod these games or make my own games with UE3 for the 360?

  • You cant unfortunately

  • dang it!!!

  • well it is but its really expensive and complicated

you need all kinds of cables and sofwares what gamedevelopers use

    just stick with the pc

  • So if I go to the store and by UT3 for the PC, would I be able to find the unreal editor on the CD?

  • right.

Unreal Editor 4.0 is on the UT3 dvd, with no restrictions but the engine version. You'll be allowed to make such things, and cook maps and mods for UT3,

but you wont be able to open files cooked with earlier version of engine (i tried, and cant open .upk files from The Last Remnant for exemple.)

but that's an awesome and powerfull editor

  • That's worth as much as the house I live in.

  • The engine, yeah, hehe. Good thing the editor is free with most UE3 games.

  • I dont like how the smoke looks but It was cool.

  • Thanks. Since this video, I've made many more effects and I've made lots of animated materials for the particles, so they all look much better. I just can't show them because they're for a UT3 mod right now. I hope to post in-game effects once more footage goes public. :)

  • Who is Daniel Draghici? Are you him? If so, Te respect!

  • Thanks.

  • now all you need to do is make some much needed tutorials!

  • nice particle effects. Im a mapper myself, i know most of the editor, but ive never gotten around to learning the cascade part of the editor. Keep up the good work. You should make some tutorials! Check out my tutorial vids if you want.

  • Thanks. I've actually only watched some level making tutorials last week. I started with the particle and material editors then moved on to the rest, but making levels is pretty cool too. I like all the objects UT3 comes with, but it would take years to make your own (especially thousands of them).

I'll think about making tutorials. I've always liked particles, both in 2D, 3DS Max and in games engines so I might one day.

  • thanks, u been lots of help, hope to see more of your work.

  • thanks for the info ... what about a online school that teaches unreal UE3...

  • There are lots of free tutorials for it online, since it's one of the most used DX9 game engine. UT3 comes with a bonus DVD with many hours of video tutorials on things like level design, particles, animated materials, etc.

They're from 3dbuzz(dot)com, they usually have lots of Unreal Engine tutorials, but also use Google to find others.

  • cool , where can i find the unreal engine 3

    download

  • You can get it from Epic for about $750000. ;)

The free editor you can find in most UE3 engine games, like Gears of war, Unreal Tournament 3, Roboblitz, etc. but you can't make commercial products with it unless you buy a liscence for the engine.

  • badass engine! worth the money!

  • Coolsauce.
