  • the engine on the 2007-present Jeep Patriot

    Engine

    2.4 L GEMA I4

    2.0 L GEMA I4

2.0 L diesel I4 (Europe and Australia only)

2.2 L diesel I4 (Europe and Australia only)

  • if it had a decent inside and noCVT I would want one. looks like a baby Commander.

  • I have the 2010 limited. Honestly, it's not as good as I thought. Cheap parts/interior. It hurts to say it, but I'm disappointed. Looks great at a glance, but once you drive it for a while, you start noticing the flaws. Plus I live in Australia, cars here much more then U.S. I payed $36K! That's almost $40k in u.s dollars, for a car i regret getting. Sure has all the bells & whistles, but over all. Not pleased. Should have gone for the Wrangler.

  • This vehicle is awesome. People keep comparing it to a cherokee or it should have a bigger engine. It offers choice. If you want a bigger engine or stronger, just get a wrangler. If not, it's great for fuel, it's comfortable, and can do more than other shity suvs or crvs.

  • @sonicmaiden .....this is a suv -_-

  • i have jeep cherokee limited 4.0 l i6 190 hp 225 flb and it is faster better and stronger than ugly small jeep patriot and it can beat jeep patriot in any challenge

  • the 2007-present Jeep Patriot/ Jeep Liberty (in Russia) is assembled in

    Belvidere, Illinois, United States

  • Im not sure why this review repeatedly claims that the vehicle is weak. They say that the CVT struggles to keep the vehicle moving? For a 4 cylinder this thing actually has alot of ass. It can keep up while also being a moderately good off roader. Its designed to be a less costly alternative to an SUV. And for what its equipped with it doesnt do too bad at all.

  • I think they are a great deal! I want one and I am actually planning on trading my current vehicle in on one in the next few days.

  • I want one for my first car :) crash tests are AWESOME!

  • Cvt seems to race as it struggles to keep the patriot moving ive banged on alot of sixes at a 40 roll this thing redlines and just hauls ass

  • Comment removed

  • I WANT ONE OF THESE SO BAD!!! a 15,000 dollar jeep!!!

  • I have a 07 trail rated Patriot and I love it.

Great on road and handels the power lines better then some trucks!

  • I Love my Patriot, and get great gas. I bought it for 13k with 7k miles on it.

It's a great little machine and the 2wd does surprisingly well offroad due to the front wd.

Its a great first car, but I do feel the need to evolve into my next jeep.

It's a great car, and offers alot for what it is. I highly recommend.

  • i think this is the first chrysler product to have good resale value

  • Well maybe it's a stupid question , by i've to ask it, forggeting the luxury and get focus on comfort and performance... what's better a jeep patriot or a mercedes C class ? i know much of you will say the mercedes but i like too much the patriot, consider i'm a 16 years guy who want it to go to high school . Please help me !! Mercedes or Patriot?

  • @yalmond45 If you want a sedan, then go with the Benz. However depending on its age, you may want a newer one.The Patriot, especially the 2011, is an amazing vehicle. Good luck!

  • And why are you comparing it to a Ford Focus. That's a hatchback CAR. Yes the patriots chasis and other parts are based on the dodge calibers, but that's about where the similarities end. Its a compact SUV that has a real 4x4 option as opposed to just AWD and still gets close to 30mpg. and have you seen some of the offroad setups people have come up with? - NOT comparable to a Ford Focus ppl.

  • if you don't like it, don't buy it. It actually makes perfect sense to me. Right now I have an old Ranger. It's lasted me 12 years so far. However, it's not 4x4 (which sucked this past week with the snow) and it also has room for only 1, MAYBE 2 people. I would like a Jeep Wrangler, but base price is about 20k and gas mileage is MAYBE 17mpg. The Patriot would solve my room issue, match the mileage of my ranger and still give me 4x4 for rough weather and a little fun on the weekends.

  • What's wrong with it? It cost half of what the Cherokee does. I would take a Cherokee over this any day, but it's just not affordable yet.

  • If you like this, just wait 'til the 2011 comes out. so much better interior, so much better performance, so much better...everything.

  • for the price its a steal.

  • I am thinking of buying a Jeep Patriot as a car to take me to College, should I get this or get a Hatchback like the Ford Fiesta I'm seeing right next to me in that ad :D

  • @AmericanWarHero You mean your parents are buying you one for college? I wouldn't bother. Horrible gearbox, crap car, depreciates lots and it's too compromised. Ford Focus for the win

  • @AmericanWarHero depending on where u live, if u get lots of snow, then get the patriot, if your roads are almost always fairly clear then get the fiesta, or focus, pretty much the same car when you think about it.

  • the review says it all - there is nothing stand out about it.

  • This car is crap. who are you all kidding

  • if u buy a car purely on looks, you in a world of hurt....can u say "MINI".

  • SCION XB is all subjective. Compared to Patriots , XB is more balance in roomy, interior quality, and power which Patriot lacks. Patriot was actually my first choice but interior is cheap, it lacks horse power, and small inetrior.

  • just putting it out there, land rover > jeep

they're both really nice though. we have jeep :)

  • LOL, Jeep is the US version of Hyundai-Kia!!!

  • i want either a patriot or a subaru forester... what should i get?

  • I got a 2010 white Jeep Patriot Sport about a month ago and I LOVE IT! idk why the reviewer says there's engine noise cause when I drive its super quiet. The 5 speed manual transmission makes this car fun to drive, the sound system is great and best of all its great when in comes to gas mielage. There's not too much room in the back and you have to pay extra for leather seats, fog lights etc. But for about $15,000 you're getting a lot more than your money's worth. Love it, no problems so far.

  • could a 6 footer sleep flat and comfortably in the back?

  • This the ugliest car. Its seems like an okay car, but ugg! I don't know what the designers at chrysler are thinking lately, But their putting out the ugliest cars.

  • @cougarsstudios i think it looks great and for the price i think it is perfect

  • @tylerspyler2 I just like a more.... curvey car. Is all.

  • @cougarsstudios like.....

  • @tylerspyler2 Something like the Ford Escape, or the Saturn Vue.

  • @cougarsstudios but they are not offroaders, well not as good as the jeep and for the price it is well worth it (In my opinion

  • @tylerspyler2 Good point. But if I were to go off roading i'd go in like a wrangler or something. But I'd plan on driving this in the city / suburbs sooo.... I'm going for my type of style.

  • @cougarsstudios It's all a matter of opinion friend. I for one love boxy vehicles and if I were rich I would own a Mercedes G500 and get bullet proof windows!! That is the sexiest vehicle ever!!

  • @ramseyrachel89 If I were rich I'd go for a bentley gt, pontiac g8 or the ford gt. that car is sweeet.

  • is there an automatic transmission?

  • @Ho0di Yes

  • @Ho0di They do. Its a CVT automatic... Its really not woth the price and sounds like a cow. I wish I could say I like the cvt ,but its horid.

  • this or ford escape?

  • @2hisk0 if u go off road alot then get threw if u drive the city more then the escape but i like the new body style on the escape tho but u gotta look at which one would last longer

  • Are parts expensive for this and the compass?

  • if this car had a v6 or v8 it would be so much better

  • You should really pass on a car when your favorite thing about it is a flashlight...

  • Scion XB is a 4 cylinder but doesn't drive like one. It has alot of power compared to other 4 cylinder cars

  • @DJTEVAdotCOM does it have a lot of power compared to an STI or EVO?

  • i test drive.....it lacks major power

  • now adays the customers wants ecnonomy efficient vehicles, so a 4 cylinder is likely to lack power

  • awesome scion is american too designed elsewher and second how dare u compare a vompact car with a small suv are u even serious? this thing is 4x4 trail rated. can u even try to do some off roading or something at all on an xb? compare it to something in the same class at least wow

  • dope ride + good on gas OlllllllO

  • for the same price this patriot doesnt have the roominess, nicer interior , and extra oprions for the same price as the scion xb.

  • @DJTEVAdotCOM it also doesn't look so freaking gay as the scion.

  • got an '09 about 10 months ago - finally got rid of my '96 Cherokee Sport with 200K miles (loved that ride but it was time to go). I've been nothing but happy with the Pat - the 4WD actually has better on-road traction in foul weather than the Cherokee (played in the 22" snowstorm we had last month). Grown to like the CVT, and 24mpg average (over the Cherokee's 17-18).

  • too bad they are made in the USA fucktard.

  • assembled in the USA...designed and engineered..elsewhere...

  • LOL...i like jeep 2...but i gotta agree

  • Guys Should i sell my 2002 BMW 318i and buy one of these ? ??? is it worth it

  • I have a 2008 w/6100 miles......

    Runs/Drives Great! No Problems

At All............Have Had It 26 Months.

  • lol at 6k miles....i hope not.....post wen you get to around 40-50k

  • yea leave the off roading to the wrangler's cherokee's, commanche's and grand cherokee's (ZJ), otherwise ur giving jeep offroading a bad name

  • I own a 2007 jeep patriot and since the beginning it had a noise in the front suspension. I claimed it so many times to the dealer and was never fixed. they don't know what is the root cause of the noise, and the warranty does not apply any more because it reached 60k kilometers already. Also, if I get the engine revolutionized up to 6000 per min. the engine decelerate very slow. This car has too many "details". I'm still wondering what can I do with the suspension before thinking in selling it

  • in my opinion if you want a jeep to go offroad get a wrangler or a cherokee sport

  • My dad bought this car 2 years ago, in the last 2 months it has been having problems with everything, and we maintain it really well. At the same time the value is terrible for a starting price of $16000.

  • I'm thinking about getting one of these for my second vehicle.

  • oh one more thing...that back outdoor speaker is NOT in the lower sport model....

  • i test drive this car today and it's a great all around car. This car is no luxury...interior is mostly plastic but still nice ...not as cheap as a PT Cruiser interior. If you have dogs , this car is for u. I wouldn't go spent $20k for a upgrade model for a car like this though. You can get a used 2008 model for under 15k at carmax. This car is selling like hot cakes...JEEP can't keep them on the lot and carmax don't have much of them.

  • i recently bought my patriot and after making an extensive research i can say that is the best small suv. mine has power locks, power windows, sunroof. the interior space is awesome and the sound system is pretty good. go to edmunds and kbb and take a look to the customer reviews. even go to the competitors websites and make a comparision. love my pat

  • you obviously didn't do your research as you say you did if you think this is the best small SUV. You statement couldn't be more far from the truth; as it has worst in class reliability, it's not made in America, and it is poorly design seen with the plastic city interior, and lack of basic power utilities, and completely leaves out advanced technology features as even an option. This is one of the worst built, and least reliable thing to be sold on car lots in resent history.

  • You must be confusing JEEP Patriot with some imported CUV! Jeep Patriot is made in Belvidere, Illinois, U.S.A.

What's this lack of advanced technology you speak of? It has, 3-stage ESP, 110v power outlet, side-curtain airbags, AWD/4x4 lock, brake traction control, hill-decent control, a 2nd-gen CVT that can maintain a relatively high compression ratio at low RPMs for crawling through and over obstacles, optional nav/DVD system. What do you expect, force shields and hover-drive? Plenty reliable!

  • i am going to buy a boat and refuse to get a truck to tow it so i was wondering if this could tow a boat that ways 1500 to 2000 LBS and can take it in and out of the water on a fairly steep muddy ramp? i know its rated to tow 2000 LBS but does anybody know how well it does with that kind of thing?

  • Dunno man... this thing is front wheel drive, so you'll have a tough time pulling out of the ramp. I suggest you look at some Subaru's... all of 'em have AWD standard

  • stopxthisxfall they offer it in 4x4

  • yes it will. 3500 lbs is its max tow rating.

  • I personally wouldn't recommend it. If I am not mistaken, the Patriot that comes with a towing kit can tow up to 2,000 lbs. and the standard Patriot can tow only 1,000. If you were to get the Patriot with the towing package, you might be able to tow a boat, but you won't be able to bring anyone with you! I have a boat and I tow it with a van that can tow 4,000 lbs. The boat and trailer are between 2,000-2,500 lbs.

  • It works like this: towing capacity is exactly that, the weight the vehicle is TOWING behind it. Taking into account the engine, transmission, suspension, hitch mounting, and weight of the vehicle, Patriot (properly equipped with 2.4L engine and towing/FDII package) can drive perfectly safe with up to 925lbs inside plus 2,000lbs in tow.

  • Yeah, but one better be careful. The person who was talking about towing a boat, if he/she has anything bigger than a aluminum bass boat, I don't think it would be a good idea to tow it with a Patriot, towing package included or not. It is recommended that one does not tow more than 80% of the towing capability of a vehicle, and when you add some passengers to the mix, that's less weight that you can tow.

  • I've bought an 2009 Patriot 4x4 5-speed with the "North/North Plus" (Canadian package) and it's fantastic to drive. The shifting is "notchy" but it's much better than the CVT models. the FDI is more than enough for normal off-road use. I've taken mine out to some pretty decent mud and was not let down from clearance but from tire grip. So needless to say if going to do some serious offroading, Tires would be a desirable upgrade

  • Does it come with Chrysler's reputation for making cheap crap? I had a Dodge... and the f-ing thermostat housing unit was made out of plastic!!

  • hahaha! Welcome to the last 30 years of things across every market being made out of plastic when they probably shouldn't be... on that note, there are plastics that can withstand high temperatures over 300 F...

  • Yeah I'm not saying plastics can be of high quality, but Chrysler seems to think it's a big fucking joke! One of the hottest pieces on the car... made of plastic?! Who's heard of such a thing? I'm not a fanboy, but at least Toyota and Honda make them out of steel...

  • its good:awesome off-roading, nice interior, nice look....

  • What is Manual CVT ?

  • It's a Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) that allows you to choose specific ratios manually using programming in the transmission.

Instead of infinite gear ratios (within the range of the transmission) you can manually choose several distinct ratios, imitating the distinct ratios in a standard manual transmission.

Or you can let the CVT choose the ratios automatically.

  • Yeah, on mine you can downshift, relatively speaking, for slower descents or nasty uphill situations. Just knock the stick to the left a couple times and the Jeep makes up some good ratios. To get it back to automatic, hold the autoshift to the right for a second or two.

The engine is very odd though and takes some getting used to. It doesn't seem like it has a lot of power until it revs high up. I don't have any problems passing cars or going up West Virginian mountain highways.

  • dope ride, i want, i want!!

  • do they make this model with an automatic transmission? my fiance won't let me buy manual ones. and she scares me so I do what she says. :-)

  • you make 0 sense

  • Yes, the ones that have CVT ( continuously variable transmission ) are actually automatics. They drive really well, I just bought a new one two weeks ago.

  • im a thinking on buying either a hatchback(matrix), crossover(caliber), wagon(hhr), or a small suv(patriot) but im still undecided. all of those cars get good milage between 22-29 m/gallon. they all have room on the back, and have cool features. however the hhr, and patriot have bigger cargo area, the caliber is decent, and the matrix is way too small. however the patriot is the best option for off road, i just drive in the city, so i wouldnt need it, but it would be cool to go anywhere with it!

  • Well, I'm sure that you will make the best decision for the vehicle that fit your needs. For me, the Patriot does well because my other vehicle is a big conversion van, and I don't need to be driving that big clunker every day!

  • true. i will keep researching! although my first choice is a caliber, my second one a patriot, and my third one a honda crv(but the new honda SUV are way too big), and i dont reall like big cars.

  • A lot of people say the Calibar is just an awesome all-around car, it comes with many features. Matrix is a fun sporty car, but it wouldn't really fulfill your needs in terms of space. HHR is safe and fun to drive, it's unique. Patriot is like Calibar (They're the same company partners) but has the added standard of off roading ability. Go for the Pat.

  • shum i mire aaaaaaaa

  • what is cvt, i can never understand it

  • a regular tranny shifts like a manual it keeps going up gears until you stop then it goes back to first a cvt matches the gear to the speed for better gas mileage

  • the patriot is amazing

  • @AzPatriot004455 its a great vehicle. worth way above the pricing. 9/10

  • get the caliber. better deal.

  • only if you were to go with the 2wd...
