원정녀 사건은 최근 서울지방경찰청 국제범죄수사대가 원정 성매매 브로커인 최모씨(35) 등 6명과 여성 16명을 검거하는 과정에서 실체가 드러났다.
지난해 8월부터 최씨를 통해 일본으로 건너간 한국 여성만 수백명，성매수를 한 일본인만 1만여명에 달하는 것으로 드러났다. 최씨는 1인당 100만원의 소개비를 받으며 이 기간 중 10억원의 부당이득을 취했다. 경찰청에 따르면 8월22일부터 9월30일까지 40일간 해외 성매매를 집중 단속한 결과 해외 원정 성매매 혐의에 연루돼 경찰에 적발된 사람이 전국적으로 225명에 달했다. 성매매에 나선 여성들 중에는 이혼녀는 물론 서울 유명 사립대의 대학원생과 여대생 등도 다수 포함돼 충격을 줬다.
