  • I Know Its A Little Old But I Really Liked This Video :)

  • really nice video! Thank you!

  • what program do you think is best for raw editing, photoshop or lightroom?

  • Amen to that! Couldn't agree more and really lovely pictures!

  • I found my parents old film camera and it works great. Prints are amazing. Film is a little harder to shoot with but its worth it. Im also going to get a 3100 soon so i can shoot more.

  • Why do you not use the Noise Reduction? How does it affect sharpening? When I turn up the sharpness on a high-ISO image, the noise just becomes exaggerated. Masking helps, but then I end up with little "dots" on the edges of my image. What am I missing. (Canon T2i, Lightroom 3)

  • hey Jared, i need a good free photo editing software for editing my photos, any recommendations? i shoot with a d5000 btw.

  • the 83 people who didn't like this are lame and absurd.

  • @boytanong Or they have a legitimate problem with the video resulting in them not liking it. It is absurd for you to be incapable of comprehending this possibility. What FroKnows is how to deliver a product through an efficient technical workflow, and he is very technically literate. This informs the way he talks about composing an image, and unfortunately it just isn't that interesting.

  • @skilesca ok so big deal Greg is gone, life goes on ...just cause hes not there for whatever reason im not friken stopping time, and if u dont like this channel move on.....go to Gregs new channel..

  • I told my therapist I was seeing images everywhere and he also advised me to go for a DSLR- so I did.

  • You brought out some really nice points in this video -and you're absolutely right, she did great. Really good job, Taylor. The technical stuff does "click", in time. I learned so much by hitting the "i" key for info in lightroom and really looking deeper into how the image was shot, during editing.

  • I really like this video. I have the exact same set up as she had other than I have a D40 instead. I think this great advice for beginers

  • This was a very good video Jared...I like how you talked about feeling the photo.

  • OMG I am sooo gonna get a d3100 and a black rapid strap and a skin tight I shoot Raw tshirt so I can be a Professional Photographer too!!!! yaaaaaayyyyy

  • Some of those hospital pictures could easily pass for storytelling mood pictures in a magazine. She got the eye, would be very interesting if you would do two or three episodes with this, slowly educating her on the tech and seeing where all this goes, and finally compare the first pictures with the last pictures and picking up on the tech starting to support the story in the picture and not the other way round. Great work, got me babbeling :)

  • Your message hasn't changed...thank god!

Just go out and capture the moment...and learn from what you shoot...

Its simple. And the results you showed are great.

  • 07:16..... awesome picture...... ur friend is already turning pro! <3

  • what software do you use to record your desktop screen?

  • @faytoottoot called screen flow

  • jared, why don't you use the black and white feature at the top? and always go for saturation/vibrance to 0?

also how do you get the exif data info on the top left of the frame??

  • @tomfewchuk it has become a habit for me to use the sliders i could just hit the button. The other stuff is under View and Options when in develop.

  • Is Jared using the Noise Reduction on LR3?

  • @rastafaris123 no, i do not touch it.

  • Where's your Nikon doona cover....lol

  • hey jared when are u posting sundays show i need my fix

  • Jared you are great, don't let the haters get you down.

  • I think I should be on this video.

  • fucking kindergarden.. Couldn't care less about their situation. Okay it's sad but why being so childish and dislike his vid? fml

  • if youre going to dislike the video because youre mad at jared on his decision with greg then dont watch the video at all this is ridiculous hes the one whos taught us all theres no reason to get mad and go antifro on him and go out of your way to dislike his videos

  • @photoclassical Chances are a good percentage didn't even bother watching it. Just saw a new vid was up and hit Dislike. How tiresome.

  • whats with all the dislikes? ...why would someone dislike this great video very helpful!

  • @zachnpics ive never used them but I have heard good things, they seem pretty reasonable.

  • a camera is a tool that is all. so is a paint brush, so is a violin, used wrong the results

are not so pleasing. but used correctly the results are pleasing, sometimes beautiful. so the camera is a tool, a way to record the world and life around us, the way wee see it. it is rubber, glass, and metal, it has no feeling and no emotion. the way the world is seen through are camera, is the world people see through are pictures.

  • @MrYcontrol LOL

  • I wish someone would leave a comment telling everyone how many times Jared said 'she' in this video. I don't have another 12 minutes to spare :(

  • she is better than me. i hate me

  • Really good stuff. But since she already loved photography, and had been shooting for a while... I don't really understand why you are so amazed. Yes, great photo, great eyes, superb DoF etc, but it's not like she had never taken a photo before.

  • @johanneswingerlang she has always taken pictures but now she is starting to see what its all about and wants to learn if u do this this happens so on and so forth. She just always had a love for it and now its about honing the skills and taking it to the next level.

  • thanks fro great vid

  • another good tip is, to use the live-view instead of the view-finder. makes ist easier to compose!

  • @pixelcomet this is one i don't agree with. I always recommend using the viewfinder it is more steady for holding the camera.

  • @JaredPolin and furthermore the focus is A LOT faster !

  • @JaredPolin more steady, I agree with you. but I get a better feeling for framing, since looking at the live-view is more close to looking at a photo. so I often use the live-view to get a feeling for framing, but then I shoot with the viewfinder to get it right and sharp.

  • @pixelcomet plus it focuses soooo slow in live view

  • @skatebaker321 you are right on that. but I don't care, since I focus 90% of my shots manually.

  • @pixelcomet well yeah then it doesnt matter. its just not a good tip for most people

  • @pixelcomet me neither, the best way to compose is to look through the viewfinder, I personally never ever use the live view except for video.

  • @catalin205 well.. I always knew that I go alternative ways :-D

  • @pixelcomet if it helps you be more creative I don;t have anything to object, but most people like the optical viewfinder

  • @catalin205 yes it helpes me, coz I am a lateral thinker, which sometimes blocks my way. thinking in spirals is my speciality and the life-view is good for me. after getting my composition with life-view, I do all the rest as most ppl do.

  • Jared, I LOVE your advice, I often tell people focus on learning 1 aspect and keeping it simple with 1 prime lens so their feet are the zoom

  • I agree with everything you said in this video. I started out with a D3000 and 35mm 1.8 because you recommended it, now I have a D90 and just bought a zoom lens a few days ago and I find myself framing and composing much better because I learned how when I was using the prime. Thanks Jared!

  • I wan't that lens but it seems hard to find at the moment. I might end up with the new 50mm instead.

  • okay what does a dslr have to do with composition? why is she all of the sudden able to compose an image now that shes shooting digital?

  • This is by Far the very best beginners guide video on YouTube. instead of explaining a whole load of settings people will probably forget, it puts the photographer in a completely new mindset that allows them to as you said, see the world as an image.

    Thanks Jared, this helps alot!

  • Hey Jared, i was wondering if you could help me with a dilemma :)

as i feel my progression i am looking to get a new lens.

    I'm shooting with a canon eos 550d, and i have the 18 - 55 kit lens and a 50 mm 1.8

and I stand in a dilemma, i am a student so i am on a pretty tight budget, but i was wondering if i should buy the 70 - 200 sigma, or a wide angle lens, I really like wide angle photography but also concertphotography. maybe you have an idea of which lens i should start with.

    :)

    Jacob.

  • Sometimes, you can force it, especially with the money, but I've always believed that those with "the eye" produce the best photography. Great video.

  • don't give a shit about these haters who dislike your videos only because of the story with greg..i still appreciate your videos because they are good and informative!

keep it up jared, i still love you!

  • finaly something not just about bin laden!

  • In Soviet Russia......You are the one who get viewed and felt

  • Respect for Jared , keep up the good work.

  • Whats happening to me now is the exact opposite of your friend, Jared.

I've gotten every aspect of technicality down but I'm having a hard time seeing and feeling the images.

    Sigh..

  • @evolutioner alright lets try and figure this out. set your camera to one setting use a fixed lens and force yourself to not even look at the settings. Just see the image, feel the image and capture it, try not to think to much and just capture you know.

  • @JaredPolin

Thanks Jared, will put on a basic lens and focus on the capture.

  • @JaredPolin I have to try this too. Same problem here. All technical, no eye :(

  • @JaredPolin you're right the best way to regian your creativity is to use fixed lenses because they force you to think and move around and they force you to see the image

  • @evolutioner same here. Sigh indeed

  • Deep, Deep <3

    I really got inspired!

    beautiful images

  • this is very encouraging video for beginner

  • wow this video made me even more determined to shoot film and use a 40mm 1.4 only....Thanks Jared

  • These photos are really nice, I'm also starting to "see" pictures every day, the more I watch my pictures on my computer the more I think "okay this is nice with the light and sharpening, but I could have done a better framing" and I just take some other pictures to compare, all this is so much fun. Thanks a lot Jared for making me take the leap and buy my Nikon D3100!

  • That photo at 7:18 is damn amazing ! I really like it !

  • I love photography but my mother dun. So she only allows me to buy a Canon Powershot A495. I understand ISO, shutter speed n aperture. Problem is that my camera runs on AA batteries which dies so fast therefore i cannot experiment with my composition a lot. N the camera is practically useless with not even the slightest of manual control .......

  • @hongfei95 Buy Sanyo Eneloop batteries. You can find them on Amazon. I shot some pretty decent stuff on an old Powershot for a year. If you really go into the camera you will be able to change some settings. It's not easy by any means but it can be done.

  • @jjjjjokerface Thanks for the advice :) I would get a couple of those n try then as i really didn't know what brand of rechargeable batteries will be good. However, what you say about being able to change the settings, i really still do not know how. What are some of the settings that can be change ?

  • @hongfei95 Your Powershot is more of a point and shoot then mine was (mine was an S3 IS so it was more of a "Bridge" camera) so I'm not too familiar with it. Have you looked in the function menu to see the options in there? Also, it helps to play around with the scene modes. I always found using the portrait setting on my camera produced pretty decent bokeh, so I used it a lot. I wish I could help you more, but just keep on shooting and saving your money!

  • @hongfei95 (continued) And if you want a cheap DSLR option then look into an older Pentax (I have a K100D Super). They have in camera image stabilization which will save you a TON on lenses, and they are compatible with every Pentax K mount lens EVER made. Vintage Pentax glass is amazing. I've spent about $600 on my entire kit of 2 manual lenses, an older auto telephoto lens, and my camera. :) Hope I could (sorta) help!

  • Great Photos :)

  • cool vid jared, shall always appreciate your enthusiasm for image making

  • first?

  • Nice vid dude keepit up

  • Great Video, especially for a 15 year old who is currently saving for my first dslr camera!

  • @Mullinz03 hey good luck, just remember capture the image than you will start to understand the technical aspect as you progress. .

  • @JaredPolin

Before you bend the line you should know how to draw a straight line.

  • @Mullinz03 I Just bought my first DSLR -A nikon d3100- Its in the mail right now!

  • On the picture witch she cuts her BF feet, I would have lower the angle to get both the feets and the tree in background. don't you think Jared?

  • @NazTy4UTube i did talk about that in the video, how she mentioned that she wished she didnt cut her foot but she did catch it which is great.

  • Hey jared could you check out some of my Photos?

  • hey jared

im wondering what would be better, im looking at the 70-300 lens for my d3100, but im wondering if a sigma or a nikon version would be better. any thoughts? thanks, love the show :)

  • @guitargod1423 the 70-300 works but keep in mind you will not get the same effect as on a 2.8 lens like the 70-200 2.8 sigma which i do recommend.

  • @JaredPolin thanks for the info !!

ill definitely give the 70-200 a look.

  • great idea

  • 240p.. 360p.. 480p.. 720p.. 1080p.. original.. GO!

  • @nsasha96 unfortunately only usable resolution is 720

  • @tomfewchuk why? I can use native!

  • @nsasha96 oh maybe it's just cos my monitor's only like a 19 inch, higher resolutions for this type of vid squish up all the pixels and get screwed over, oh well

  • gud one.... hope ders no fights goin on nw!!!.....
