  • its tough to find bball players to make speeches like this

nba players today throw away education sadly :(

  • thanks a lot for posting this.

  • GO BEARS!

  • im still mad at jabbar because back in 1972 he sucker punched happy hariston of my lakers when he was with the bucks...

  • Now this is someone that the world should inspire to and not to the mainstream crap that is being fed to this generation.

  • The true greatest to ever play the game.

  • @jeffreyhsykes

Giant steps is a great book I absolutely have to agree with you :D

  • kareem is an eloquent speaker, the model of professional athelete and overall class act.

  • @drnubian Quite a contrast from the Lebron's of the world...humility, class and eloquence

  • he is died?

  • 41 likes 0 dislikes. Enough said

  • Whenever he speaks, everyone listens

  • u stole my name

    jk lol

  • abdul jabar VS bruc lee :D :D

  • HE lIVED!!!

  • i never knew he was such a nice guy. i wasnt born yet when he played so all i've seen are old clips showing how aggressive and hardnosed he was. its good to see this side of him off the court. thats the perfect kind of player anyway, one thats kind and intelligent off the court but wants to bust your teeth in once they're betwwen the lines

  • ODB: When I was a small kid in the mid 70s I read about Kareem's life and got to know him as a person through the book, not just as a baller. He is a great intellect, a wonderful person and a thoughtful leader. We need more like him.

His autobiography "Giant Steps" is a great read.

  • Wow!

Keep up the good work, keep practsing, brother. :)

You might get a call from the NBA soon, who knows. :P I hope so anyway. All the best.

  • Kareem is the name that he chose for himself. He's fighting leukemia and you fight over what name he was born with.

He's always been a class act.

  • @minute1981 It is reported the cancer was caught early. When I was coming up I would play basketball and use the hook shot a lot. Most of my friends call my hook shot the "Nasty Hook"I was 87% with the shot in accuracy.

  • what are those dingbats in the background doing!?

  • love u...

  • top speech..... love you JABBAR !!!!!!!!!

  • are you from??

  • I'm proud to be a Bruin pretty much because of this guy... and Jack Black. LOL.

  • Go big Lew!!

  • Yes. you're smarter than most to know his real name is Lew Alicindor.

  • His real name is Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. Show respect.

  • No. It isn't It's Lew Alicindor. Look it up. I like Kareem. He is my favorite NBA player of all time.

  • He changed his name because of his religion so it is Kareem.

  • I know that, dumbass.

  • Then why are you showing disrespect towards him and his religion by calling him "Lew Alcindor"? That's not his name anymore and you should respect that.

  • Oh. I get it. Sorry I offended you.

  • it's still his birth name - his mama chose it!

  • You guys don't know that he wasn't born Kareem.

  • why couldn't Mr. Abbel Jabber have written his own speech rather than read someone elses. He was, probably, the most intelligent basketball player ever.

  • wilt chamberlain...

  • I love Kareem, but i'd say Bill bradley is. He went to Princeton, was a US Senator, and was a Presidential candidate. It's too bad he didn't have the charisma of a Kareem though as Al Gore beat him out in 2000.

  • Ben Bernanke went to Princeton too. Look what he's doing to the US dollar and economy.

  • Did Bernake play in the NBA, ABA, or college basketball at a hall of fame level? Were talking about smart hoops players. And Bradley excelled at hoops and politics getting so far as running for president and slugging it out with the sitting VP for the Democratic parties nomination.

  • Much respect!

  • great to hear from one of our heroes. Still looks fit and clear thinking. A basketball legend and a great mind. Thanks for your best.

    bleu

  • @redwallace It takes some a life time to get where they belong, and Mr. Jabbar made in less time than most. I remember when he was considered radical and a threat to the establishment. He's still the same. It's the American society that has caught up to him.
