uhgg i hate gallium, it stains literally everything it touches and when it gets wet it rusts just like iron, and i found out the hard way that gallium expands as it cools. mercury is much better to play with
Mercury is the most toxic element. It is constantly vaporizing deadly fumes,if u breathe enough amount,u die. Some lost balls in your room does the job right too.Have fun
I live in Brazil in a city called Goiania. We had an accident with Cesium137 decades ago. A junk yard owner got an old X-ray machine from a Hospital and found small balls of radioactive Cs-137 inside.
Unaware of the danger, he played with then (as they glow in the dark), and even gave them to his family and friends.
Because it was BEAUTIFUL everyone played them for some time. Weeks later, the radiation was discovered... dozen of them died...
Do not play with stuff just because it is beautful!!!
from what i notice about mercury, is other metal objects won't go through it when you mix it in the little glas dish. Whatever those hard steel or whatever pellets you put in with the mercury. They didn't just fall through it, rather then rolled off of it. That's interesting.
@PabloBarreraz Actually, It is. Well, in a sense. The extreme cold allows for the current to run through with little to no degradation. There is no resistance! Superconductors are really quite amazing. However, the video clearly stated that mercury is a superconductor, and it is.
@thebikerack In other words even aluminum which is a very poor conductor will decrease his conductivity is you cool it down. is Mecury a superconductor? Yes but that can not proven by your experiment, since cooling it down 45 ºC is nothing compared to its real critical temperature 4.2 K (-268 ºC) thats only 3 Degrees higher than the lowest temperature ever gotten in a Lab, You have curiosity man thats good. By the way Im an engineer, I can send you some nice books if you want
@PabloBarreraz Well, from what I know, Mercury was the first substance to be superconducted and won Heike Kamerlingh Onnes the Nobel prize of physics. And true, this simple temperature does not make this a true superconductor. But they were just showing that Mercury was particularly good at it. After all, the resistance did decrease. I only pointed out that you said it was not a superconductor. And it is.
@thebikerack What I ment is that you only showed a decrease in resistence and pointed out that it was a super conductor. Here is my email, interesting discusion but for youtube comments pablo9031@hotmail.com hope we can continue via MSN
@thebikerack OK as an Engineer, every material hay a resistivity or conductivity factor wich is given by a very elegant formupa RC=1, in other words when they are inverse functions, as you may know Temperature acts as cinetic energy of molecules or atoms. Reducing the temperature will reduce this energy making easier for electrons to travel along the material (they will even increase their speed) ANY material that is capable of conducting charge will decrease this resistance.
i saw a video how a guy used dry ice to freeze it, imagine you have a huge freezing warehouse and you make a construction out of mercury and then let the heat come up :D that would be cool ....
The skin will absorb it and vaporizes heavily by room temperatures. So you will breath it.
And it will damage your brains and nerves.
Heavy metals like: Mercury, Cadmium and Beryllium are one of the most toxic materials which should handled with care! Thats why you these metals are prohibit nowadays.
I am a Lab Chemist and we always handles these materials with special care.
It cant be that deadly...can it my dads 54 and he played with it and aside from a slight breathing problem he's fine...im certain the breathing problem came from a pack aday from 25-40yrs old....?
well, it'd continue to evaporate where it is. i heard that happened quite often at old laboratories, where there was uneven / bumpy floor in the worst cases, and nobody died. :P
but it'd be best to keep the contamination down, for sure, so i'd not leave an open bucket full of mercury standing around somewhere in my room. ;)
i ran a voltage of 12 volts from an sla battery about 7.2 amps to eac h side of a drop of metal mercury in a beaker with no water it fizzeld and made white flashes
yeah, i know. when I was taking Earth Science, my teacher told us that deadly materials often formed the best looking, biggest crystals he even showed us some). They'd look really nice but if for some reason your cat or something licked it, they'd be dead. fast.
I don't think it would have a different reaction with the music because sound waves will ultimately just vibrate the mercury. I guess the EQ of the music can affect it, like the amount of bass and treble or something.

(Or smashed as it was) but now theres a bunch of lil pieces of glass slivers all mixed in it due to my unprofessional extracting methods. How or where did you get yours from?
check out my video mad hatter, i used the actual glass cylinder from a thermostat with the mercury in it, just added salt and distilled water, used a 18volt pulse stright to the original wires in the glass, it chargedup themercury, made it atttract to the magnet, and the mercury made hho in the salt water when any different type of metal was introduced.
ok guys, just so you know what you are talking about. This is elemental mercury, it isn't that dangerous, touching it or even ingesting it is dangerous. it is only dangerous when inhaled. also it isn't like mercury cyanide which is absorbated by the skin. the real killer is dimethylmercury. this type of mercury is so strong that a few microliters on a latex glove can be fatal.
As stated before, (s)he is using elemental mercury. It's not harmful to touch for short periods of time, look whatever you're talking about up for once before you say something.
only not dangerous for VERY short periods of time, the time he had it in his hand is enough for a small dose of mercury, less than you would find in a bag of tuna, probably, but it is still dangerous, don't take a bath in it and maybe wear some protection
But you must take note, this ISN'T normal Mercury as we think of it, this is Elemental Mercury, and for all normal points and purposes, it isn't permeable to our skin. As long as the user doesn't bath in it for 9 months straight, they're fine.
no it isn't "thermometer mercury" but I know what elemental mercury is, it's Hg on the periodic table, one of the only 2 elements liquid at room temperature, and the only metal (Bromine is the other), I know EXACTLY what elemental mercury is, I AM a chemist. It IS dangerous, and I, like 9/10 people here, am alerting him to the dangers
The danger is highly minimal at best, a human could easily handle it for 10 minutes with absolutely no side affects. To say that what he's doing is a danger to his health is preposterous at best, I will restate, ss long as the user doesn't bath in it for 9 months straight, they're fine.

i dont know about room temperature, but "high-temperature superconductors" do exist; just look for that on wikipedia, or google for it. they still have to be pretty cold, but at least not near absolute zero. :-)
In January 2004, residents in northern Nevada found out first hand how dangerous mercury can be when dozens of middle school children in Gardnerville were exposed to the element and the vapors it gives off. Less than a week later, severe poisoning from long-term exposure to mercury vapor sent a Las Vegas 17-year-old youth to a hospital's intensive care unit for a week, and the exposure may cause lifelong effects. The quarter cup of mercury contaminated 50 classmates.
You can handle mercury as long as you don't have open cuts... In fact, a slight layer of baby oil on your hands would be a really good protectant if you're that worried about it.
Mercury would rather stick to itself than absorb into your skin, and it's really not enough to kill you in liquid form until you start taking in substancial quantities (we're talking grams).
Aka Heated gasoline cooler, which turns anything hot to room temperature.
Acerate can sometimes be used in the making of Mercury because the Acid found in acetone From viniger and the baking soda mixure, This gives it a really, really Glossy finish but makes it less Liquady
nope, the warmer it gets, the higher the electrical resistance, and the less it conducts. the colder it gets, the lower the resistance - and if its cooled down to absolute zero, it has almost no electrical resistance anymore, making it a superconductor.
you know if you want this stuff if you have an old thermostat (ac stat) there is a small tube of it inside a glass container

Mercury isn't as dangerous as you think it is.

My comment was unfinished, Anyways
It contains metalic Magnit and Sulfer particles
and A Liquad Heat nitrogin named
Arsitic Crystal Meaning Hot Liquad in French
and another liquad called Alsertic acid,
Aka Heated gasoline cooler, which turns anything hot to room temperature.
Acerate can sometimes be used in the making of Mercury because the Acid found in acetone From viniger and the baking soda mixure, This gives it a really, really Glossy finish but makes it less Liquady

Cool Fact time :)
If you pour mercury on wood and leave it in a air Tight/Sealed container or bag, the wood will Start to turn into sawdust?
If You put Mercury metal in a Metal Container or bucket, it will Keep rubbing off metal from the container and turn into mercury?
Why?
The sulferic acids inside of it starts rubbing off of the metal and starts turning to room temperate. making it look like molten Metal.
Why is mercury so expencive?
It contains many particles of A Sulfer and Metalics

so does that mean the the hotter it gets teh more it conducts? reminds me of this on amp thing thats power is do you even have to askXD
VxZidaneXv 2 years ago
nope, the warmer it gets, the higher the electrical resistance, and the less it conducts. the colder it gets, the lower the resistance - and if its cooled down to absolute zero, it has almost no electrical resistance anymore, making it a superconductor.
