  • you know if you want this stuff if you have an old thermostat (ac stat) there is a small tube of it inside a glass container

  • hey 240p! its been awhile...

  • uhgg i hate gallium, it stains literally everything it touches and when it gets wet it rusts just like iron, and i found out the hard way that gallium expands as it cools. mercury is much better to play with

  • Mercury is the most toxic element. It is constantly vaporizing deadly fumes,if u breathe enough amount,u die. Some lost balls in your room does the job right too.Have fun

  • wow the villain of Terminator 2 ....? hehehe

  • I live in Brazil in a city called Goiania. We had an accident with Cesium137 decades ago. A junk yard owner got an old X-ray machine from a Hospital and found small balls of radioactive Cs-137 inside.

Unaware of the danger, he played with then (as they glow in the dark), and even gave them to his family and friends.

Because it was BEAUTIFUL everyone played them for some time. Weeks later, the radiation was discovered... dozen of them died...

Do not play with stuff just because it is beautful!!!

  • I've need mercury:D

  • my thermometer is broken so i have some mercury at home, anybody here knows where do i can buy more?

  • Is mercury actually a superconductor, or just a very good conductor (as any metal in low temperature)?

  • from what i notice about mercury, is other metal objects won't go through it when you mix it in the little glas dish. Whatever those hard steel or whatever pellets you put in with the mercury. They didn't just fall through it, rather then rolled off of it. That's interesting.

  • Dont use mercury, use Gallium it's not toxic and it is hard by 29 °C and like water by 31° C

  • Man that's not a super conductor please read some theory before saying stupid things, read about einstein bose condensate.

  • @PabloBarreraz Actually, It is. Well, in a sense. The extreme cold allows for the current to run through with little to no degradation. There is no resistance! Superconductors are really quite amazing. However, the video clearly stated that mercury is a superconductor, and it is.

  • Comment removed

  • @thebikerack In other words even aluminum which is a very poor conductor will decrease his conductivity is you cool it down. is Mecury a superconductor? Yes but that can not proven by your experiment, since cooling it down 45 ºC is nothing compared to its real critical temperature 4.2 K (-268 ºC) thats only 3 Degrees higher than the lowest temperature ever gotten in a Lab, You have curiosity man thats good. By the way Im an engineer, I can send you some nice books if you want

  • @PabloBarreraz Well, from what I know, Mercury was the first substance to be superconducted and won Heike Kamerlingh Onnes the Nobel prize of physics. And true, this simple temperature does not make this a true superconductor. But they were just showing that Mercury was particularly good at it. After all, the resistance did decrease. I only pointed out that you said it was not a superconductor. And it is.

  • @thebikerack OK as an Engineer, every material hay a resistivity or conductivity factor wich is given by a very elegant formupa RC=1, in other words when they are inverse functions, as you may know Temperature acts as cinetic energy of molecules or atoms. Reducing the temperature will reduce this energy making easier for electrons to travel along the material (they will even increase their speed) ANY material that is capable of conducting charge will decrease this resistance.

  • @PabloBarreraz what is your point? You just agreed that mercury is indeed a superconductor did you not?

  • 240p, we meet again...

  • i saw a video how a guy used dry ice to freeze it, imagine you have a huge freezing warehouse and you make a construction out of mercury and then let the heat come up :D that would be cool ....

  • Should've used your mums dildo to vibrate that shit, would've been alot more affective...

  • where do you get your mercury?

  • subscribe to my channel, message me, than i will sub back. thanks!!!

  • i threw mercury in the ocean once =)

  • if try ur way to made BHO but da stuff not burn! what did i do wrong? hala

    ;))))))

  • i seen the tiny drop of mercury

  • 3:23 LOOK very closly to the bottom of the dish. Is that escaped mercury?

  • your not the smartest to handle that w/o gloves...

Did you have a mask atleast?

  • @Riot186 elemental mercury won't kill you from touching it.

  • A liquid metal slime appears :D

  • If you pour mercury on sand or some sort of powder, will it clump up or will it slide off frictionlessly?

  • @Zakerandsaisu

    the latter. :)

  • @bionerd23 Mercury is definitely the most kickass element.

  • so what is the danger of mercury?

  • how did you freeze it

  • It cant be that deadly...can it my dads 54 and he played with it and aside from a slight breathing problem he's fine...im certain the breathing problem came from a pack aday from 25-40yrs old....?

  • Dude this is pretty impressive, i have mercury but when i freeze it, it turns into spikes o_o

  • does mercury expire??

  • @mcrss26 Huh?

  • about how many grams is that?

  • wonder wat wud happen if u put mercury in microwave (under very controlled conditions obviously with health and safety in place)

  • cool!

  • fun fact: the mercury and gallium mixture you made (amalgam) is what dentists use as your fillings

  • @333irani333

no it's not. dentists use COPPER amalgams, not gallium amalgams. :)

  • @bionerd23 yeah i thought something was wrong with that statement. it wouldnt b too safe to have mercury in your mouth lol. thanx for the correction

  • @bionerd23 you made that fact not fun

  • @bionerd23 funner fun fact then if your mouth catches fire it burn green or turn green over time

  • @333irani333 thats true

  • ahhh dont touh it its poisonus

  • omg i love how mercury seems frictionless. it moves like no "liquid" i have ver seen and that why people love to play with it :D

  • The type in thermometers is elementle correct?

  • yep

  • @bionerd23

How bad woud it be to have a super tiny drop lost(of mercury?)

  • well, it'd continue to evaporate where it is. i heard that happened quite often at old laboratories, where there was uneven / bumpy floor in the worst cases, and nobody died. :P

but it'd be best to keep the contamination down, for sure, so i'd not leave an open bucket full of mercury standing around somewhere in my room. ;)

  • @bionerd23 so, it is in my room, wich is my lab and i am currently studying the analgums it forms and i was wondeinf if i should be worried.

  • @zasx20 not anymore. most thermometers now use alchohol

  • just bathe in the god damn mercury why don't you...

  • i ran a voltage of 12 volts from an sla battery about 7.2 amps to eac h side of a drop of metal mercury in a beaker with no water it fizzeld and made white flashes

  • I dont know if some one will use this info, but some metal actually lower resistance when heated!!

  • is it magnetic

  • look out it's the T1000!

  • It's a shame it's toxic.. It looks so fun!

  • I know!!!!!! It looks like something I could play with for...ever. Use as a mirror...a friend named "Shiny." Yeaaahhhh dude

  • eat it

  • Keep that up and soon you'll be mad as a hatter.

  • were can u buy mercury

  • how does mercury stay like that?

  • man why does everything awesome have to be super deadly.. >:(

  • Yeah, like nukes and martians!

  • yeah, i know. when I was taking Earth Science, my teacher told us that deadly materials often formed the best looking, biggest crystals he even showed us some). They'd look really nice but if for some reason your cat or something licked it, they'd be dead. fast.

  • @windowlicker1 Mercury is not super deadly, you just have to use it with caution and keep it all in a air tight container when not in use.

  • @windowlicker1 its not SUPER deadly... but yes, its a real shame.

  • 2:13

  • contacter moi par mon site.

je suis l'acheteur de mercure rouge.

  • CHROME!

  • Have you experimented with putting it on a speaker and watch to see how it reacts to different music?

  • I don't think it would have a different reaction with the music because sound waves will ultimately just vibrate the mercury. I guess the EQ of the music can affect it, like the amount of bass and treble or something.

    Just my thought on it

  • Mercury is used to predict the future... ;)

  • So Im wondering, Have u ever got'n sick or have known of someone gettin sick while touching the mercury in any way? Cause I got some but everyone says NOoooo its Poisons or its Vapors will kill u and then I see people like your self having no problem handeling it?

  • nope, i havent had any new illnesses / symptoms etc. after touching mercury.

it really depends on the amount of vapor you inhale. if you just play with it for a few minutes and otherwise keep it in an airtight container, it's supposedly not an issue. seafood contains mercury, too (released into rivers from the industry). so do vaccines and dental amalgam.

  • Oh good! Thanks for replyn dude! Ya cause i while i was supposed to be waitin for ur answer back I went ahead and opened the glass cylinder. (Or smashed as it was) but now theres a bunch of lil pieces of glass slivers all mixed in it due to my unprofessional extracting methods. How or where did you get yours from?

  • same source. try running the mercury over toilet paper or sucking it into small tubes, so the glass fragments get caught in there.

  • @Melonate248, isn't mercury magnetic? It is a metal right? Just run a magnet over it and it will be attracted to it leaving the glass behind.

  • mercury isnt magnetic. not any metal is magnetic; titanium, for example, is another non-magnetic metal.

  • check out my video mad hatter, i used the actual glass cylinder from a thermostat with the mercury in it, just added salt and distilled water, used a 18volt pulse stright to the original wires in the glass, it chargedup themercury, made it atttract to the magnet, and the mercury made hho in the salt water when any different type of metal was introduced.

  • not sure if its hho buit its was a gas, check it out, its labeled mad hatter on my page

  • Yup like bionerd23 just said, I try'd my self and surprisingly enough not Any magnetic properties at all!

  • That would be crazy if it was magnetic. You could pull it around everywhere without even touching it at all!

  • dental amalgams are being removed because they cause chronic mercury intoxication. Even if the mercury in amalgams is stuck in a solid alloy!

  • i want some mercury to play with

  • Next time wear gloves

  • is it even legal to buy murcury these days

  • if bullets were made of industrail mg...wooo!!

  • Many, used by the troops, contain depleted uranium.

That's why they go through metal like a knife on butter.

  • where can you get mercury?

  • Comment removed

  • dude your response was fake, this is real to and try it for your self

  • Why, that's rather interesting...\o-o/

  • what song is playing? kinda like it lol

  • Really interesting video...but no gloves?!...Can you get mercury or gallium?

  • what a great video thanks dude

  • if you look at the one where your shaking your hand it looks like a person thats all white dancing

  • this is very beautiful,im subscribing, and the uranium is brilliant.

  • may i no where u take the mercury from?

  • this is cool keep up the cool work

  • ok guys, just so you know what you are talking about. This is elemental mercury, it isn't that dangerous, touching it or even ingesting it is dangerous. it is only dangerous when inhaled. also it isn't like mercury cyanide which is absorbated by the skin. the real killer is dimethylmercury. this type of mercury is so strong that a few microliters on a latex glove can be fatal.

p.s.: She is not a HE, she is a girl

  • it is the t-1000, mimetic polly alloy, remind u of terminator 2?

  • you are hurting yourself with the mercury please be careful

  • goog shaking looks like you jurk enough on your mercury

  • if that thing is from mercury then that means we've been to mercury >.> AWESOME XD

  • Uh...It's named Mercury because the Greek god, Mercury was quick, fluid, and fast, or something along those lines, hence it was named after him

  • Atually its named after the planet

  • mercury from the planet mercury? D:

besides i heard its toxic ( watched on comments of ur vids) how did u get it? and is there anything like that non toxic and can take it? o-o

  • the slow vibrating mercury looks like a dude goin A-wall

  • That mercury is a hell of a badass element you should always wear gloves around it because it came awful close to your thumb

  • (s)he is using elemental mercury, it's perfectly fine to handle if not for a long time. :)

  • You prob know this, but mercury is crazy dense and heavy, it can squeeze it's way through his/her pores, dont handle without gloves. idiot.

  • As stated before, (s)he is using elemental mercury. It's not harmful to touch for short periods of time, look whatever you're talking about up for once before you say something.

  • only not dangerous for VERY short periods of time, the time he had it in his hand is enough for a small dose of mercury, less than you would find in a bag of tuna, probably, but it is still dangerous, don't take a bath in it and maybe wear some protection

  • But you must take note, this ISN'T normal Mercury as we think of it, this is Elemental Mercury, and for all normal points and purposes, it isn't permeable to our skin. As long as the user doesn't bath in it for 9 months straight, they're fine.

    :)

  • no it isn't "thermometer mercury" but I know what elemental mercury is, it's Hg on the periodic table, one of the only 2 elements liquid at room temperature, and the only metal (Bromine is the other), I know EXACTLY what elemental mercury is, I AM a chemist. It IS dangerous, and I, like 9/10 people here, am alerting him to the dangers

  • The danger is highly minimal at best, a human could easily handle it for 10 minutes with absolutely no side affects. To say that what he's doing is a danger to his health is preposterous at best, I will restate, ss long as the user doesn't bath in it for 9 months straight, they're fine.

((9 months is a clear exaggeration.))

  • This music is fucking brilliant. It makes me want to break out the korg ms2000b and my sampler.

However the video reminds me that i need to buy a new multimeter.

The electrical resistance section on this video is facinating, im still learning very slowly about superconductivity, but it really freaks me out, the first time i heard about the meissner effect it was a total WTF moment!

I just wonder is it even theoretically possible that they will discover room temperature superconducters.

  • i dont know about room temperature, but "high-temperature superconductors" do exist; just look for that on wikipedia, or google for it. they still have to be pretty cold, but at least not near absolute zero. :-)

  • Yep, think there are some reccently discovered mecury based compounds that superconduct at about -140c.

No room temperature ones yet, lol, or we would know about it!, would change electrical engineering forever.

Im just wondering if its even possible.

  • I cant spell again, sheesh, Mercury with an R in it, lol.

    FFS.

  • i think room temp superconductos is the ultimate goal, since they will have a multitude of uses in pretty much every industry.

  • where can you find Mercury?

  • It's out there somewhere between venus and the sun I think

  • Not in Uranus?

  • Not in mine. I don't take those poison mercury-loaded flu shots.

  • so you can play with it and dont tuch it or what? only for look at it you get poisoned

  • Putting Mercury under a vibrating enviorment looks very cool... Awesome video!

  • the song is richie hawtin, right?

  • It acts lot like molten solder

  • where do u get it

  • where do you get mercury?

  • i wish mercury was about as dangerous as copper or something

  • so who cares

  • cant that give u heart dessis or sometin

  • Respitory Upset, and Cardiovascular failure...but only if inhaled the fumes or in your system

sorry bad inglish, no pay attention in school lol

Nah real talk my english is really good

  • no, and it won't make you dumber than you already are

  • :) :) :)

  • err, gloves?

  • she plays with radiation all day....trust me the last thing she is worried about is gloves

  • Mercury isn't as dangerous as you think it is.

You can handle mercury as long as you don't have open cuts... In fact, a slight layer of baby oil on your hands would be a really good protectant if you're that worried about it.

Mercury would rather stick to itself than absorb into your skin, and it's really not enough to kill you in liquid form until you start taking in substancial quantities (we're talking grams).

  • My comment was unfinished, Anyways

It contains metalic Magnit and Sulfer particles

and A Liquad Heat nitrogin named

Arsitic Crystal Meaning Hot Liquad in French

and another liquad called Alsertic acid,

Aka Heated gasoline cooler, which turns anything hot to room temperature.

Acerate can sometimes be used in the making of Mercury because the Acid found in acetone From viniger and the baking soda mixure, This gives it a really, really Glossy finish but makes it less Liquady

  • are seven or just retarded?

  • Cool Fact time :)

If you pour mercury on wood and leave it in a air Tight/Sealed container or bag, the wood will Start to turn into sawdust?

If You put Mercury metal in a Metal Container or bucket, it will Keep rubbing off metal from the container and turn into mercury?

    Why?

The sulferic acids inside of it starts rubbing off of the metal and starts turning to room temperate. making it look like molten Metal.

    Why is mercury so expencive?

It contains many particles of A Sulfer and Metalics

  • i wouldnt heat that up without a proper mask

  • what did you use to freeze it?

  • looks lik airduster

  • where did u get this mercurey from i thought u werent alowwed to get it any more?

  • thermomefers. Break 'em

  • Loved the music, loved the experiment...

  • that song is fucking annoying it doesnt deserve to be called music -__-

  • it's very alieny

  • woob woob woob woob woob woob woob xD

What kind of music is that? xD

  • Your comment is annoying, it doesn't deserve to be called communication.

  • when it's iced it looks like gallium.

  • so does that mean the the hotter it gets teh more it conducts? reminds me of this on amp thing thats power is do you even have to askXD

  • nope, the warmer it gets, the higher the electrical resistance, and the less it conducts. the colder it gets, the lower the resistance - and if its cooled down to absolute zero, it has almost no electrical resistance anymore, making it a superconductor.

  • its not their problem that they are smart in fact only 25% of U.S population has an I.Q of over 130

  • 5/5, and favorite!

  • Dude at 2:55 the four small blobs of mercury form an almost perfect trapezoid which was cool.

  • Get a detox.

  • what temperature does mercury freeze at?
