Nice video...I've had this camera for almost a year now, but never figured out the electronic zoom button there that you used...:-) Going out now to try it out...thanks buddy..!!!
@Relentt2008 Yep, with DSLR's it's an evolution. They had no idea when they created the video feature that this would happen. So now they're catching up with what the video users need. Manual audio is a must all new cams are now including it.
Hi there. Will there be any problem shooting an event / speeches that last about 1 hour? Does the 60D have any problem with overheating and it had to stop and start recording at every 12 mins? Please advise....
@nomisloh Running the cam continuously for an hour might cause a heat issue but you don't really know until you work it that hard. But also the 12 minute limit is going to cause you to have to stop and start the cam every 12 minutes or 4gb's whichever comes first. You need to be running two cams with separate audio or you're going to miss parts.
Hi, I recently bought a Canon 60D and I went out of a field test the other day to test out photography and video, and when I came back home I noticed a problem, I was filming at 1280x720p 60fps, but the video quality was quite grainy and bad, the ISO was also set to Auto so I'm not quite sure if that affected it, but none of my videos look as good quality as anyone else's I have seen using the Canon 60D.
@KaossKS Yes, most likely the auto ISO is introducing most of your noise. If you are outside in the daylight, you should be shooting at ISO 160. ISO is the last setting you want to have to resort to. It introduces noise into your image.
@KaossKS Your settings will always change based on your shooting environment. You have to learn each on intimately, knowing how each will affect your image. For a noise free image you are going to always need light. All cameras like light. Keeping your aperture as wide open as possible is tricky for focus but will help get more light into your camera. I video, you don't have much wiggle room. fps & shutter is fixed at 24 & 1/50. F-stops & ISO will be your only adjustments. Use ISO last.
I bought a T3 for black friday and a Rode VidMic VMP Pro shotgun (my acoustic solutions shotgun is garbage)......is the Zoom H4N really necessary? Can't I get awesome sound recording straight to my T3? I'm on a low budget, but if it's sliced bread, I'll somehow fork it over...
@detroituntilidie The Rode VMP is a great mic that will allow you to get nice audio when your subject is within 3 to 5 feet. After that, you'll start to pick up much more of the room and background noise. Getting the mic close as possible will always give you the best audio. The H4n is for when you want to hook up pro mics to the camera. I.E. lavalier, shotgun on a boom, handheld or reg. shotgun. So it's really about mic placement. If you can get close with the Rode then you'll get great sound.
@thepodcastersstudio yeah I'm doing a doc and my interviews will be within 4 feet I believe. I don't know if the Rode will be camera mounted or on a stand... I might just buy the H4N from Amazon to test it....if it's a significant difference I'll keep it. Thanks for the response
@detroituntilidie I wouldn't buy the H4n if you're not planning to buy other mics to use with it. There would be no need to hook up the Rode to it & other than that, all u get, is the on-board mics which are not going to be as good as the Rode. The main purpose for the H4n in my case is for work with other mics (lavs). See my other video where I demonstrate my setup (60D setup. Quality audio). I used the H4n on board mic in this video because I was being lazy but it works OK cause I was close.
@thepodcastersstudio I watched your DSLR audio vid before this one....but only made it til 7 mins....sorry, I have ADD. But the main argument I was worried about was somehow the sound quality depletes if you record straight from the Rode inputting to the camera instead of hooking up your Rode to the H4
@detroituntilidie Nope that doesn't factor in. U wouldn't want to connect the Rode to the H4n. There's a key factor when using the Rode in order to get the very best sound that you can get from the mic. It's all about the +20db function on the mic if u have the most recent model. What u want to do is set the Rode mic to +20db & then in ur camera, set the manual audio down to one click before the lowest setting. This lets the mic do the work & not the cam. The cams preamp is what ruins the audio.
@thepodcastersstudio I think I saw that at OliviaTech's site but I'll definitely do that and I'll include you in the credits as a special thanks in my doc for helping me out here
@detroituntilidie Hey that sounds fantastic. Keep me posted. I'd love to see any work you do on it and the final piece when it's ready. Make sure to post at Vimeo too. That's the best site for film. Take care and thanks for watching.
@AlexandherFilms2 I purchased the 60D, body only for about $899 if I remember correctly and I ordered it through B&H. Email me via the link in the description if you needed links. Thanks for watching.
@thepodcastersstudio I just checked, it looks like it went up. It's $999 now. Do you think it'll go down? I don't know if I should wait to see if it does down or buy it now.
@thepodcastersstudio probably not. I think I got a special rebate in the beginning because it was a brand new item but I think it's been at 999 for a long time. However, sometimes B&H has deals so keep your eye out. Always take a look at Amazon too. I have banners for both sites on my site at ThePodcastersStudio. If you shop at either site please click the banner which helps me make more videos;) Maybe there will be a sale next month when the new 5D markIII comes out;)
I have also read that with DSLR's there is no way to get a video stream and still see what you are doing. HDMI out shuts off the LCD...sends the LCD signal down the HDMI connection. So you'll be blind. Not only that, but the image isn't a clean one...it is the LCD display
What would work best cam or DSLR and what models would you recommend?
Any advise and recommendations would greatly be appreciated I wann have a super professional look.
With Professional Softbox Studio Lighting Kit with 2x85w 5400K
Many people are singing the 60D praises but there is not much info out there on how it measures up for live streaming. Some even say the sensor over heats and camera shuts down after 30min in live view mode.
@jacquesone100 Thanks. The 600D looks like a great cam and that is a great lens. You'll have no issues shooting video with that setup. Enjoy. The lighting is a simple setup. I used a large window for the key light and just threw Reveal bulb in the light in the background which is slightly more blue than tungsten. Color grading in post is what makes the difference in getting a nice look. Thanks for watching.
thank you for doing this. I am so confounded though with the filming time restrictions. I had decided on the T3i, then photographers kept telling me to pay up for the 60D because I will be happier. However, for interviews, 12 minute shooting time doesn't seem adequate, but fine for the shorter segments I plan on producing. Am I wrong? Is there a work around? I have otherwise been looking at the GH2. (but, I own Canon camera lenses!)
@kimbanyc Yeah, unfortunately the 12 minute thing is a limitation of these cameras. For interviews and talks, it can be tough. I often avoid this by using two cams or stopping and starting between every few questions. I heard that the Magic Lantern software can defeat the time limit because of it's pre-record option but I haven't tried it and you take a risk or damaging your camera when you used unapproved software. So beware.

What is better DSLR or camcorders for streaming ?
What will give me the most professional look?
Some people online has suggested camcorders are a dying breed and DSLR is the future but many don't know how they measure up with live streaming.
