I agree that MIB is the character in the most tragic destiny ... By his presence, the philosophy of Lost has taught us that the notion of good and evil are inseparable and very complex.
@dancefool68 People get the idea from the bible story about Jacob and his twin bro Esau who was jealous of him, wanted his inheritance, wanted to escape his religious background, etc. Because of the similarity between the two stories, some think that's what MIB's name is. This is just a theory, though. I myself don't think that's his name. Hope I helped. :)
Man in Black, Smokey, Lockeness, whatever you want to call him. He was the most amazing villan ever and I am a huge fan! He was wronged by that creepy woman and by Jacob. We should have seen more of him.
@egyptsasson1 I agree he was wronged by "Mother" she wanted him to take over as guardian and she should have let him leave, but we cant really blame Jacob for throwing him into the light, After Mib went into the light it wasnt really him anymore, he was infected with the darkness, and there was no way he should have been allowed to leave then.
It's funny that even The Man in Black has a lot of possible interpretations. Either he is the phantom of Jacob's brother or a universal force of evil on the Island. Personally I think he's both. Whatever infection had taken over Sayid and Claire, he was the source of it and I think that source began in the Island's true source in the cave. My theory is when Jacob killed him, the infection ripped his soul from his body and turned it into a corrupt spirit. Essentially, he was a powerful ghost. Imo
@ChurchOfMe93 I think youre just about spot on there, the mib had his consciousness ripped from his body and corrupted, he was essentially still alive but at the same time his physical body was dead.
@ChurchOfMe93 Funny how main villains aren't usually just powerful evil spirits it would be a unique kind of way to go imo more villains who are complex in origin and nature.
@MrLtMuldoon He didn't leave the island, thats what i was trying to say. I'm not from an English-speaking country, so thats why there might be some mistakes in my comments.
i think the man in black has a very tragic story, one of the most tragic in all of lost. but still, the man in black is not jacob's brother, just a dark, souless creature that looks like him, and needed to be stopped, even if he was heartbreaking before
Of all the the tragic characters in Lost, from John Locke over Richard Alpert to Sawyer, the Man in Black is probally the most tragic one. He wasn't originally a bad man, he never had any bad intentions but to leave the island. He was a free spirit, and a pioneer. But ever since he was born, he was kept a prisoner on the island, feeling he didn't belong there. He died without ever having left the island only once in his life.
@trannel9891 Yep, and I think his pesonal development was very pursuable. Lost has no perfect evil and no perfect good. And so the Man in Black wasn't born evil but was made so.
Love the series, but I'll have to wait until I forgot most of it and then I watch it again. And my children will have to watch it for seeing, what television once was.
@131313thundaaa131313 **SPOILER**schmuck. the man in black is the smoke, and Jacobs brother, he became the smoke when he was pushed into the light in the heart of the island.
@lolamiley again, if you pay attention youll find the
MIB's body while the smoke thing is floating around, meaning , again, the MIB isjacobs bro , the smoke is what appeared when MIb wasnt supposed to leave and got, " REJECTED"
@131313thundaaa131313 Yeah but MIB was dead. The smoke is like his "soul" theoretically speaking. It was the form he took when he died. MIB's body was dead, but not MIB. That's the only way it makes any sense. I mean the smoke isn't just some random thing that comes out of a hole when MIB gets pushed in. It IS MIB. That's what the writers intended.
@1977Enter surely there will be a Final Season Part 2 soundtrack i see no logical explanation for them just never releasing the last 5 or so episodes music it just wouldn't make any sense
@pinkfloydrule27 They have released a part 2 of the soundtrack and its available to buy on the varesesarabande website. Or you can listen to them here on youtube. Hope that help :)
@minigibby2212 The first theme is a darker variation on Locke's theme in fact as it uses the same form of eight notes gradually rising just not in an emotional key. Listen to 'Locked Out Again' to the piano part that plays with the rising eight notes and you'll see its the basis for this theme. Its very subtle and a testament to Giacchino's skill.
This song makes me want to find loopholes.

You're not John Locke. You disrespect his memory by wearing his face, but you're nothing like him.

Do you plan on making a Super Compilation for the Man in Black, Moollii? If so, will it include themes for the Monster from the first 5 seasons?

@trannel9891 actually the evil one was the smoke itself taking MIB's form since MIB died already , as seen in season six
