This is a moving film that depicted everything, EVERYONE should know about the aftermath of war. It talks about the soldiers and the families. What got me the most is when ben foster gives his first notification and steve's character tells him to look at the tree, that it is as old as his son. Just watch Ben's eyes, they say everything.
Ben Foster's character unfolds with humanity and poignancy throughout the film. His performance is as subtle as his character is reserved. Woody Harrelson shines as an Army Sergeant who is as cold as his NOK (Next of Kin) notifications. THE MESSENGER is a moving film that patiently observes these two officers trying to find middle ground regarding just how much humanity they can and should offer to the Army's newly deceased NOK. 'Not bogged down in politics at all.
