it's not the speed that impresses me, rock bands have been playing fast since forever. it's the sense of rhythm, the lyrical conviction, and yes, the fact that they were four black dudes in one of the most racially homogenous music scenes.

I think you already know this, but if you don't or if anyone else is interested; They where a reggae band too, and played shows for that too, and when they played hardcore they incorporated that sense of rhythm and musicianship from the reggae into the hardcore genre. That's what I think makes them so special.

@cheeesonator That would be at the Otis Parson student union show they did in the mid eighties, that had HR screaming at the crowd to "pay me in crack, you wannabe faggots!" and other such bullshit. When he threw beer at us and got it thrown back, he ran back to the green room and didn't come out while junior screamed "if you weren't homosexuals this kind of thing wouldn't happen to you, faggots!". So yeah, it wasn't hard to figure out, you know?
