Let's see how Annette does with the Imaginarium songs. They are the first couple of songs written for her voice after all. She's never gonna be as good as Tarja on the old songs, but she's probably gonna do really well with the new songs.
And she rocks live. She's nowhere near Tarja's technical skills but she is more of a rock singer than Tarja ever was.

Most people dont consider this, but Finland is actually the heart attack capital of the world. I guess the stresses of living in a modern society that far north takes its toll. I say this because some of those Fins can be really hot headed at times.Just watch Finland in an Olympic hockey match and you'll see. The thing with Nightwish went too far and Tuomas & Tarja both realize it. It is not an easy fix. For us, we have a new NW and a new Tarja and both are well. Tarjas new stuff is really good.

This is one of the songs Anette sounds better than Tarja, both are great singers but I'm still in love with Nightwish and Anette has been doing an excellent job.

@darknitz You made a terrific and also scary point about the Marco thing. Even as a fill in member, he has become as much a part of that band as Emmpus guitar. One amazing thing about it is, this current bunch actually like each other and are now somewhat of a "family". The earlier version was always disaggreements which led to the split up in 02 which brought us Mr Hietala.It takes a certain something to be able to "adapt" musically to things. Tuomas has been a master at this.

@darknitz I agree. Tarja has a cold voice which is great for stuff like The Siren, but in this performance Anette has this warm folkish tone that complements some of the medieval elements better such as the soft part after the guitar solo. I think Tuomas should capitalize on this and write some more music in that style.

I honestly never thought they would perform this one with Anette, I was very surprised to see they did, and glad too. Some parts are a little rough, but still amazing. I love it.

@Skundac i don't think so... i've seen NW live with Tarja 3 times and with Anette 2 times and there was pretty much no diffrence with the audience and plenty of people in my age and older.

I have hope in Tuomas, since he made the final decision. Just wait for the new album and we'll see. You can't judge her for the single record they have with her: which is actually pretty good. And of course the old songs were made for another kind of voice. But seems pretty good to me ^^

Tarja was something special because she was unique, in my opinion, even tho other bands have moved towards that style.. Anette is nice because of the way she handles the crowds. Take 30 seconds and notice every time they focus on the crowd, not only are people into it.. but ... some of the people in the crowd have HUGE smiles ... people other than some net trolls LOVE Anette
Hey guys, its time to get over Tarja. I personally know these guys and Tarja wanted to be an opera singer. Annette is a rocker. I have heard several demos of the upcoming 2011 album. Its off the hook. I don't know how Tuomas does it, he's obviously a genius. I grew up with bands like JOURNEY and DEF LEPPARD, everybody with Nightwish gets blown away when I TELL THEM THAT THEY ARE IN SAME CLASS! WORLD CLASS!
@kevingthompson13 Marco gave them to me to listen too and give opinion. There are only four so far recorded, Annette/baby situation slowed things down a little. Marco was at ProgPower Atlanta just 2 weeks ago and told me album will be recorded officially Dec, or Jan with video shoots in/around Feb, for March release and a summer/fall tour. The songs I got to preview are probably not complete as Tuomas will probably add symphonics and tweak prior to final versions. All are very Annette style.

A lot of the Tarja stans seem to think that Tarja made the band, while she is a great singer in her own right, vocals cannot save every song and I think these guys are underapreciated as you can see in the comments.

@houbako They are mostly promo exerpts at not whole songs.This because many of the new songs are long symphonic pieces very remniscent of Oceanborn. Annette has had a voice trainer working with her. Some of the pieces Ive heard will surprise folks about her vocal range. Another reason for the short demos is because Tuomas is really working to keep this underwraps.There are some decent clips on the NW official youtube channel.I work in the music business so I get access to some stuff you wouldnt.

When she was in NW she said that as a classical singer she is good but not the best. @moclis Tarja Tarunen is a very withdrawn an insecure person.It makes her stage personality that much more special for me.However, any interview she has done in the last 5-10 years, she always comes accross nevous and guarded.Especially these days.She is very careful not to say something inflamatory about Nightwish or her experience there.That has paid off.Tuomas gave permission for her to do certain NW classics on tours that she was noted for,and Spinefarm picked her up.Just like NW in 1998.

@moclis As you know, it was Spinefarm Records in 98 that convinced Nightwish to be an actual band and they then gave them a 3 record deal. In 05 Tarja was very close to signing on with a German opera and Spinefarm got involved and convinced her she had another calling in music and got her to release an album. They have signed her and kept her doing prog/symphonic stuff since then.Many do not know how important that label was in this bands history.Also, Tuomas is VERY withdrawn.Thats good & bad.

Now I understand much more, this is the reason why Tarja is better and better, as a person who has a possibility to sing in clasical music she had to train a lot- it was good for NW and for her. T&T are withdrawn and it's good cause there is a little dark in them, a hidden mystery so they are really intresting and bad cause we don't know much about how they really are. Anette is cute but she isn't as intresting as T&T. I find her really nice.

I know we love these people as performers, but they are persons and sometimes that gets in the way.I actually spoke to them about attaining a professional level to the degree that a Tarja and Nightwish JOINT TOUR could be arranged and then Tarja could come out and do guest performances as a reunion or a reunion tour of sorts.Tuomas liked that but said they are not there yet. Even David Lee Roth got back with VanHalen for a tour, SO THERE IS HOPE. Its a business thing.

@moclis THANK YOU! Lets all hope this can someday work itself out.. Tarja and Tuomas are both pretty headstrong at times, but are not at all bad people. Things at the band got to a breaking point and in some ways Tuomas over reacted. I think it would have fixed itself back then except Tarja followed Tuomas's move by over reacting herself in an international interview. Both really know they went too far they just need a situation to make a formal peace. At some point surely they will.

I agree, Anette is a trooper. Her hospitalization forced Nightwish to cancel their Sept. 23 Knoxville gig, but still she managed to play a full set with several curtain calls at the “surprise” Nightwish performance at ProgPower 2008 just a few days later. Lucky we fans have you to provide this surprise performance information, seeing as how there is no record of it anywhere else. I wonder why Glenn would leave a surprise Nightwish performance off the 2008 ProgPower website.

Nightwish had been to PPUSA 2 or 3 times early on when they were new and so was the festival.In 2008, I was handling the dressing room management and dinning room.Then there was this rush of almost panic, and people started clammoring about a "SURPRISE" guest was there. Then I had to help with this crazy dressing room scramble.Next thing I knew, it was Tuomas & Marco.I was like: HOLY SHIT! I ate with them!
I want to say: Tuomas is an wonderful composer. I love his work, and the whole band is great. Annette's voice is growing much stronger, imagine how good they will sound in another two years or so? Nightwish is reborn, it just needs to grow anew. They're still doing songs written for Tarja's voice, so it's a lot of work to make them sound good. Songs will be written with Annette now, and I trust Tuomas's judgment. Long live Nightwish.
@chinogillman Anette's voice seemed to grow stronger every time she had had a little break to recover from the heavy touring. Since Tuomas now promised that they will never tour so heavily again, I think her voice will not suffer like this again and remain strong. :)
Also, Anette just recently posted that the new songs on the upcoming album are really good for her to sing and fit her voice perfectly. :)

@Nova42575 The 3 original members are:Tuomas,Tarja,and Emmpu.Jukka was an army buddy of Emmpu and got on as drummer.Angels Fall First was a self produced "test" release as they were only toying with the idea of being a band.Then Spinefarm got involved and prodded them into a 3 record deal.Sami was hired to complete the band as the compositions were requiring both bass and acoustic guitars.The band broke up in 01.They reformed in late 02 with Marco INSTEAD of Sami.MY POINT: why no tears for Sami?

You guys forgot what Nightwish is about, while Anette is the proof there can be different singers nothing changes the fact who is behind every piece of art within Nightwish's magic, the wannabe Jack Sparrow, Mr Tuomas Holopainen!
This is one of the songs Anette sounds better than Tarja, both are great singers but I'm still in love with Nightwish and Anette has been doing an excellent job.
I actually think Nightwish without Marco is worse than losing the lead singer :)

@darknitz You made a terrific and also scary point about the Marco thing. Even as a fill in member, he has become as much a part of that band as Emmpus guitar. One amazing thing about it is, this current bunch actually like each other and are now somewhat of a "family". The earlier version was always disaggreements which led to the split up in 02 which brought us Mr Hietala.It takes a certain something to be able to "adapt" musically to things. Tuomas has been a master at this.

@kevingthompson13 Marcos’ status in Nightwish went from temporary to permanent member after six months. He was hired in May 2002. Coincidentally, almost exactly five years later, on May 24, 2007, Anette Olzon was announced as Tarjas’ permanent replacement.

Tarja has a cold voice which is great for stuff like The Siren, but in this performance Anette has this warm folkish tone that complements some of the medieval elements better such as the soft part after the guitar solo. I think Tuomas should capitalize on this and write some more music in that style.

People must start to uinderstand that Anette isn't worst than Tarja. She's no better no worst, she is just different. And different doesn't necesserilly means bad, just different.
I have hope in Tuomas, since he made the final decision. Just wait for the new album and we'll see. You can't judge her for the single record they have with her: which is actually pretty good. And of course the old songs were made for another kind of voice. But seems pretty good to me ^^

Tarja was something special because she was unique, in my opinion, even tho other bands have moved towards that style.. Anette is nice because of the way she handles the crowds. Take 30 seconds and notice every time they focus on the crowd, not only are people into it.. but ... some of the people in the crowd have HUGE smiles ... people other than some net trolls LOVE Anette

Hey guys, its time to get over Tarja. I personally know these guys and Tarja wanted to be an opera singer. Annette is a rocker. I have heard several demos of the upcoming 2011 album. Its off the hook. I don't know how Tuomas does it, he's obviously a genius. I grew up with bands like JOURNEY and DEF LEPPARD, everybody with Nightwish gets blown away when I TELL THEM THAT THEY ARE IN SAME CLASS! WORLD CLASS!

@kevingthompson13 Marco gave them to me to listen too and give opinion. There are only four so far recorded, Annette/baby situation slowed things down a little. Marco was at ProgPower Atlanta just 2 weeks ago and told me album will be recorded officially Dec, or Jan with video shoots in/around Feb, for March release and a summer/fall tour. The songs I got to preview are probably not complete as Tuomas will probably add symphonics and tweak prior to final versions. All are very Annette style.

A lot of the Tarja stans seem to think that Tarja made the band, while she is a great singer in her own right, vocals cannot save every song and I think these guys are underapreciated as you can see in the comments.

People just dont understand how hard it is in music.Throw in the fact that there are serious differences between thier ideas....This band broke up fo a year in 2002.It was overwhelming fan support that got them together again.Tarja went to school to study opera, Tuomas was at the same school studying conducting/composing.He wanted to be a conductor.This Imaginarium project is making him that.NW is a great band if they stay together.I have many more like them in my playlists

@houbako They are mostly promo exerpts at not whole songs.This because many of the new songs are long symphonic pieces very remniscent of Oceanborn. Annette has had a voice trainer working with her. Some of the pieces Ive heard will surprise folks about her vocal range. Another reason for the short demos is because Tuomas is really working to keep this underwraps.There are some decent clips on the NW official youtube channel.I work in the music business so I get access to some stuff you wouldnt.

When she was in NW she said that as a classical singer she is good but not the best. She wanted to be an opera singer before the Oceanborn after it she focused on NW but still she was taking lessons to be better and we can hear it on every next album. @moclis Tarja Tarunen is a very withdrawn an insecure person.It makes her stage personality that much more special for me.However, any interview she has done in the last 5-10 years, she always comes accross nevous and guarded.Especially these days.She is very careful not to say something inflamatory about Nightwish or her experience there.That has paid off.Tuomas gave permission for her to do certain NW classics on tours that she was noted for,and Spinefarm picked her up.Just like NW in 1998.

@moclis As you know, it was Spinefarm Records in 98 that convinced Nightwish to be an actual band and they then gave them a 3 record deal. In 05 Tarja was very close to signing on with a German opera and Spinefarm got involved and convinced her she had another calling in music and got her to release an album. They have signed her and kept her doing prog/symphonic stuff since then.Many do not know how important that label was in this bands history.Also, Tuomas is VERY withdrawn.Thats good & bad.

Now I understand much more, this is the reason why Tarja is better and better, as a person who has a possibility to sing in clasical music she had to train a lot- it was good for NW and for her. T&T are withdrawn and it's good cause there is a little dark in them, a hidden mystery so they are really intresting and bad cause we don't know much about how they really are. Anette is cute but she isn't as intresting as T&T. I find her really nice.

I know we love these people as performers, but they are persons and sometimes that gets in the way.I actually spoke to them about attaining a professional level to the degree that a Tarja and Nightwish JOINT TOUR could be arranged and then Tarja could come out and do guest performances as a reunion or a reunion tour of sorts.Tuomas liked that but said they are not there yet. Even David Lee Roth got back with VanHalen for a tour, SO THERE IS HOPE. Its a business thing.

@moclis THANK YOU! Lets all hope this can someday work itself out.. Tarja and Tuomas are both pretty headstrong at times, but are not at all bad people. Things at the band got to a breaking point and in some ways Tuomas over reacted. I think it would have fixed itself back then except Tarja followed Tuomas's move by over reacting herself in an international interview. Both really know they went too far they just need a situation to make a formal peace. At some point surely they will.

It’s interesting that the US media would “virtually blackout” information pertaining to Nightwish considering their relative lack of exposure in this market. Obviously, the most reliable news regarding European/Scandinavian/Nordic bands is produced at their source, not filtered through the US media per se.
Even more interesting; the fact that Marco did not realize he was performing next to a doppelgänger from 2002 to 2005.

I hope you realize the mail you are gonna get over that one.....Meantime, my point was: Bye Bye Beautiful was on no less than 5 motion picture sound tracks here in the US, AND YET, no public press about this band here.They are hugely popular in the states and their last tour here actually quadrupled once they got here.This led to Annette exhaustion collapse.

Her hospitalization forced Nightwish to cancel their Sept. 23 Knoxville gig, but still she managed to play a full set with several curtain calls at the “surprise” Nightwish performance at ProgPower 2008 just a few days later. Lucky we fans have you to provide this surprise performance information, seeing as how there is no record of it anywhere else. I wonder why Glenn would leave a surprise Nightwish performance off the 2008 ProgPower website.

Nightwish had been to PPUSA 2 or 3 times early on when they were new and so was the festival.In 2008, I was handling the dressing room management and dinning room.Then there was this rush of almost panic, and people started clammoring about a "SURPRISE" guest was there. Then I had to help with this crazy dressing room scramble.Next thing I knew, it was Tuomas & Marco.I was like: HOLY SHIT! I ate with them!

I want to say: Tuomas is an wonderful composer. I love his work, and the whole band is great. Annette's voice is growing much stronger, imagine how good they will sound in another two years or so? Nightwish is reborn, it just needs to grow anew. They're still doing songs written for Tarja's voice, so it's a lot of work to make them sound good. Songs will be written with Annette now, and I trust Tuomas's judgment. Long live Nightwish.

@chinogillman Anette's voice seemed to grow stronger every time she had had a little break to recover from the heavy touring. Since Tuomas now promised that they will never tour so heavily again, I think her voice will not suffer like this again and remain strong. :)
Also, Anette just recently posted that the new songs on the upcoming album are really good for her to sing and fit her voice perfectly. :)
