  • you are fantastik. thank you alot for sharing your life hug

  • thanks always Gary!

  • I find your ideas so helpful and motivating - listened to this one while painting - keep going!

  • Hello Gary, I just opened a studio about four months ago. Wasn't really sure what direction i was going, thought I was going to make robots. I started painting four months ago and love it. I just wanted to let you know that your art, videos and commentary are much appreciated. You've helped me stay inspired. Thanks, Matt

  • great commentary........

  • True, wise, words....Thats what got me back into painting was doing something completely different from what I use to do. No expectations no perimeters. Just the subconscious being the guide. Thanks for sharing Gary:)

  • Hi Gary,

I am dunielle. I have been following you for a bit now, and I am so glad that I found you. I love your work and I love what you have to say. This video is great. I connect with you immensely. I have been thinking about taking one of your classes too. So maybe you will be seeing me around more.

I am in the process of setting up my website. For now, I have an etsy account. Check it out if you like. It is BarkByBaboo (dot) Etsy (dot) com.

    cheers

  • How to overcome the fear, that is the question? Fear of messing it up.... I love your work and your honesty ~

  • Thanks for sharing this. I am relatively new to art after just picking it up again after 20 years of not doing any. (kind of a rebirth thing)

I really love the positivity in what you said in this video. Curious - have you done pieces in the past without using your intuition, and how did they turn out? So far for me, TRYING to plan, and not trusting intuition has ended up in my not liking the artwork at all.

  • only intuition !!! ;0)

  • I totally agree about the need to have fun and how much "learning" comes from that. I always need to be reminded of that! I also work very intuitively and I think I get to stuff that I could never figure out with my rational mind. This was a good vlog for me. Thanks Gary. :)

  • I can Really Understand what you are saying - I thank you for sharing ur feeling with all of us - Makes me feel much better about how I am feeling about myself and my art work at the moment!

  • That's what I love about you, that you can paint without fear to ruin it, *and* that you can tell other people about that. And I agree what you said about not follow trends, but just do your own 'thing'.

    *hugs*

  • Words of wisdom Gary. That is so true about paintings that are put aside to rest for a while. Some of mine have turned out to my favorites after reworking them too. It is almost as if the painting is just waiting for you to have the right plan for it and it responds so wonderfull when you finally do.;) OH and about that top 100 artists list......who makes that list anyways? You are definately one of my top favs!

    Wendy

  • P.S. Speaking of life work: I just wrote an art blog post about Philip Glass / Candy Jernigan. I think this is very pertinent. The thesis is about art obsession over the period of your LIFE. If you go to wizzlewolf period com, click my BLOG button, the post will be there. Oh and yes. You might just be in a little room doing the same thing 25 years from now. It is possible. That might be a good thing. Many artists give up long before that!

  • Great, i will go check it out! Thanks for commenting like what you had to say! :)

  • Gary, I just have to say these "Reflections" videos are your best. It shows you are in this for the long haul. I know from experience, you don't necessarily get any prizes for longevity or lasting longer than other artists. However, you sure do get a lot of self satisfaction and can say very proudly "I told you so!" LOL Besides, can you imagine your REFLECTIONS 25 years from now? Holy Macaroni!!! You will see.

  • I have been a working artist for over 30 years now. You are correct. It is a game of problem solving and it never ends. No. I don't have to prove anything to anybody. I have put paintings aside for YEARS. Some of them turn out to be my best works when I paint on them once again. It is an ongoing process. It is a life journey. You just keep going and searching. I am not sure you ever find the exact answer for which you are looking. I don't know. I am not dead yet. LOL
