  • This is impressive!! What's the Naca profile of the wings? And What engine is being used? It seems that you haven't used more than 20 meters to take off!

  • then engine fails. ouch. no recovery on that sucker.

  • LOL!! pilot don't care what can it cause it can rip the plane

  • When adult it will be a Pilatus Porter! Little great aircraft! In italy wecan fly it as a ultralight airplane!Greetings from genoa,Italy.

  • Can anyone tell me if he Zenith 701 will recover from a spin. Aircraft that have leading edge slats spin flat from my experience. The classic example is the DH-82 Tiger Moth. The other was the old Raleigh Command ore. All aircraft will spin. It's will they recovery from a spin should you get into one with loss of control in an IFR situation. Slat pull the nose up on the horizon and leave it there.

  • R.O.C. is 4000F P M .....For the first 10 seconds,,,then behind the power curve,, and no more airplane, well i still like STOLS, WHEN USED SENSIBLY!

  • Jeeeez, whats the rate of climb in that thing?

  • excellent !!

  • Fantastic.

  • Охринеть !!!!!

  • hahahha i love this plane make me laff lol pull up one time and go ehheeheh

  • Liftorama!

  • Wow! How much runway? 100ft?

  • @HarryHydro whatever 15 metres is the equivelent of

  • WOW!

  • nuus imediato não?

  • he should take it to a stol competition

  • This guy must be scared of land! I've been watching all the Zenith Stol takeoff and this is one of my favorites for two reasons. 1. The amount of rotation, i think i see the tail hitting the ground! 2. I'm a sucker for green! (nothing runs like a deer)

  • What is the landing roll like

As in shortest distance to land

  • the perfect escape vehicle for a zombie apocalypse

  • @Ferret2YourFace

    LOL. You made a funny!

  • STALL!!!!!

  • what is the stall speed on the zenith CH701?

  • 28 mph solo, 30 mph dual. These are power on stalls.

  • Very impressive thanx, Now I am curious to know how safe is it. Worried how much it would get thrown in winds. I am planning to buy either this or a used J-3 CUB. For fun flying no to go anywhere and cheap under $30K

  • I would check the NTSB reports. IIRC, with almost 400 operating in the U.S. (and probably twice as many operating outside of the U.S.) there has only been 1 death (2 worldwide), which is astounding.

  • @mcjon77 On Saturday August 14 we had two deaths due to a 701 crash in Israel. The other seven left in the country are grounded until our NTSB finds out what happened.

  • Thats insane in a good way. Sure there are dangers of such short take off's but everything fun in life always has a risk.

It's ugly as hell but you can't sniff at that take off run.

  • ya, he's crazy! And he's likley to stall it...and that would be bad!

  • You can actually take off in that plane using about 10ft of runway. You do it much like Power braking an automobile. Hold the brakes, run the engine rpm's up and lift the elevator ... the tail will drop before the plane even moves forward if you have enough air moving off the prop. Soon as you let off the brakes the plane will roll just a few feet and be on it's way up. It's cool .. seen it done at the Zenith AIrcraft plant a few t imes.

  • I know the plane was built to do this kind of takeoff, but isn't it dangerous? If it have an engine failure?

Let the plane run a little more on the ground.

  • That is really short, someone is selling a plane on my site just like that one ! Cheap !

    ISellAircraft. Com

  • I feel sorry for the poor tail tie down bracket!!! Next time you are looking to buy an airplane (especially stol) look at the tail tie down bracket to see if it has been grinded down... if it has, the pilot has probably been careless in other aspects of the airplane too!!!!

  • I thought this exact same thing.

  • yeah, he could have been careless in other aspects of the airplane, or he could be a perfectionist, who has been a professional pilot for 30+ years, and just happens to have a little wild streak down his back...

  • Most of the "nose draggers" in Alaska wear down the tail tie down rings. They're cheap to replace and nothing wrong with it. Need maximum AOA to get off the ground. Nicely done!

  • That's where grass is nice - it won't grind down the tie down ring!

  • @HunterPilot24, mine has a small wheel on the tiedown bracket for this purpose. That said, I try to avoid takeoffs like this, because too many light sport planes have been written off because of cameras.

  • @M4Mnetwork That's pretty smart. I've never seen that before.

Never heard that saying before either. Love it, and so true. A lot of things get written off because of cameras, not just airplanes.

  • I just got my Ultralight license and was thinking of buying an ultralight (used if possible) but at a very low price...just exactly where am I looking at?

    Great take-off by the way!!

  • I saw one on sale on the road side in Cape town Southafrica a few years ago for $5k.

I didnt have the cash as I was on holiday from the UK.

I still regret not buying it.

    Rotax twin seat, very nice.

  • When I get older I'm thinking of buying one of these. How did you buy it?

  • What's the indicated airspeed at liftoff in this short takeoff run? I disconnect with my CH701 at 50 mph IAS, which is closer to Vy, and then the plane climbs like an elevator.

  • Apparently Corvair engines in the ch701 lengthen the takeoff roll because they move the CG way forward

  • like to have one with a corvair engine

  • can you say storch? :)

  • I wonder if he can do better :p... Like "Almost" VTOL...( I know VTOL will be a bit too much...That's why I said "Almost" ) It's the Shortest take off I've ever seen anyone did on CH 701 though...

  • i thought he was heading for the lake!!!

  • that is awesome! i think you need a tailwheel. one of these times, you'll take off but won't be able to land (smoothly) without a tail! excellent plane. nice video.

  • I own one of these and I must respectfully disagree. Assuming properly built and balanced I don't believe these planes are capable of a stall on takeoff when at full power... Take off in mine you pull the stick back to the stops and hold it there, add full power and go. It will just keep climbing until you decide to stop.

  • i want one. but first i have to have pilot licence ::::: PPPPppppp

  • you can do it without a pilot's certificate...just don't get caught! lol

  • Video looks pretty sped up, and can you say TAIL STRIKE! That just screams departure stall. Really cool though, looks like the perfect thing to putt around in low n' slow on a nice day. Look

  • It's not sped up.

  • lol i wonder hoew much 1 of these would cost

  • 'Bout 30 grand for a kit...

  • I didnt know they were homemade :P

    now i really want one

  • impressive

  • I'm impressed!! Would the Corvair option woirk the same?

  • seen a vid of a ch701 with a corvair engine in it

  • Is that w/Rotax 912S 100hp?

  • Mate, thats pretty awesome.

  • wow, is that a back yard?

  • it's a flying bucket, but beats any Cessna for sheer balls

  • makes me want to go get one.

  • KAT- When are you gonna fly it? THAT's the video I want to see...
