When I was five I was too young to know what death was when my grandfather died he was my favorite relative and I wish I had gotten to know him better before he died.
It doesn't matter much because either way "War" and "Wall" both make sense in this... so it's not like it screws up the song completely when you sing along and use either or word.
I mean during later shows and stuff they may have made a reference to The Wall but in I don't see how it's possible that they would've done so in the original recording of the song.

i think that it wasnt the band's vision to insight bickering and argument when they wrote this classic. to me its a philosophical take on a profound relationship gone wrong. conflicting points of view on a misplaced value system that ultimately culminates on the realization that we ultimately take what we dont need and leave behind what needed most.
Fleeting images in my mind, that are brought out every time i hear these words that are so fine, that do describe a dieing age and a way of life thats not worth living, which seems a dream of my missgivings. So now i lay my head down, but all i hear are these few sounds which relate to things which i have found. Illusions of a mind gone blind from propaganda they stream their lies, into our broken lives this insult rages and so my heart has no direction in which to stage a coarse correction.

Good points.
Just thought I'd shed light on the subject.
It doesn't matter much because either way "War" and "Wall" both make sense in this... so it's not like it screws up the song completely when you sing along and use either or word.

@SandieKlaws Good logic, sounds good. Unless ... Waters had Wall Issues his whole life so just used the word, then wrote an album about it. After Waters left, Gilmour made a comment that "Roger and I have different Issues". Not disagreeing, just saying "hmmm maybe" ... just to keep it all uncleared and all. lol ( Us products of the 60's have Issues with Clarity, you know :)

Understanding 60-70's Lyrics 101: Sometime they cannot Print the Real Lyric but get to sing it. Sometime they get to Print the real lyric but go on Ed Sullivan and cannot Sing it. Sometimes they Sing a word that is neither the Print lyric Nor the Real Lyric in order to: Make it sound Like the real lyric over accents; or to B Make it sound like the lyric they SHOULD have thought of when written. i think that it wasnt the band's vision to insight bickering and argument when they wrote this classic. to me its a philosophical take on a profound relationship gone wrong. conflicting points of view on a misplaced value system that ultimately culminates on the realization that we ultimately take what we dont need and leave behind what needed most.

@ZeppelinBigFan It's a song about Sid, the original founder who went insane from too much acid. He lived a life alone in his Mothers house living on royalties until he died. He was really missed by his mates. They still dedicate this song in concert to him.
