I think Laudrup was more balanced and more elegant than Zidane. Besides he won 5 consecutive La Liga titles which has no match till today. I would not forget that Laudrup did have great WC goals, too. He was a bit underrated in an era full of world class players like Van Basten, Roberto Baggio or Matthäus.

Don't we all. Laudrup had everything but if you're talking purely about dribbling then you need first and foremost balance, then natural pace (by which I mean the ability to move at pace without it affecting your balance) add co-ordination and shed loads of practice and you still don't get to Laudrup's skill level. ML had something that even most superstars of the game don't have - the ability to dribble with both feet naturally and shift between one and the other mid dribble.
It requires very fast shifting of your body weight from one side to another (and back) and most players have difficulty when it's not on their natural side. It's hard to explain but look at 2.44, 3.11, 3.22, 3.53, 5.54, 6.18 as examples of what I'm talking about. There are only a handful of players in the world that can do this at pace and at the highest level - and Laudrup was the master. Players like ML only come along once in a generation.

@987costa It is only partly true because Zidane had teammates with better quality in the French team while Laudrup had no chance to play a WC final with Denmark. I think Laudrup was more balanced and more elegant than Zidane. Besides he won 5 consecutive La Liga titles which has no match till today. I would not forget that Laudrup did have great WC goals, too. He was a bit underrated in an era full of world class players like Van Basten, Roberto Baggio or Matthäus.

you need to do some homework my friend. Laudrup did very well in important games. like vs Brazil wc'98, but with such a team they could never reach later stages of WC. his performance in almost all 'el classicos' was outstanding. champions league finals (ECC back then) - great game vs Sampdoria in finals 92, but teammates couldn't score from his passes. final '94 Cruiff didn't even put him on the bench... lost 0-4 to Milan => Laudrup move to Real and won 5-0 vs Barca. VERY underrated

The amazing thing is that when Michael Laudrup played in Barca they won 4 la liga titles, and after a hard time with Cruyff, he was bought by Real Madrid, and won the 5th title in 5 years.! Amazing, hard to imagine!!
He was absolutley the best technical player ever walked the earth. And thats not a overrated conclusion.
I personally miss this kind of football these days.

It is always hard to choose between players from different times, but i really believe that Laudrup was the best player in the world in the early 90´s. Only Zidane can compare with him when it comes to elegance end graze. One of the best players ever imo.

Don't we all. Laudrup had everything but if you're talking purely about dribbling then you need first and foremost balance, then natural pace (by which I mean the ability to move at pace without it affecting your balance) add co-ordination and shed loads of practice and you still don't get to Laudrup's skill level. ML had something that even most superstars of the game don't have - the ability to dribble with both feet naturally and shift between one and the other mid dribble.

It requires very fast shifting of your body weight from one side to another (and back) and most players have difficulty when it's not on their natural side. It's hard to explain but look at 2.44, 3.11, 3.22, 3.53, 5.54, 6.18 as examples of what I'm talking about. There are only a handful of players in the world that can do this at pace and at the highest level - and Laudrup was the master. Players like ML only come along once in a generation.
