Dispite listening to this song nearly everyday, i never get fed up of hearing it, just goes to show you that Victoria Wood is not only the worlds funniest comedian in the world, but she can also touch your heart with such meaning, and that is the sign of a true star!!! Long live Victoria Wood
victoria wood is gr8 at singing writing acting everything really
i love her in dinnerladies and i have most of them recorded on my t.v but sadly not on dvd and i wish i did but i can watch them all on my laptop and everything goes away for a while, it cheers me up and makes me laugh VW is a true genius !!! and when eva i watch dinnerladies i think wow a really talented person must have wrote this and starred in it and they are VW is super talented !!!!
The boxed dvd collection is my pride and joy,and I'd watch them all at least once a wek,but then that would be kinda sad, lol. But when I'm feeling like crap,on they go,blinds down, fone off and a huge sack of some snack or other,a bottle of rough red and hours of unadulterated bliss.Just that image of Petula Gordino, from the back, head hunched into her neck, waddling off & that bottom-belch emanating, lol, makes me roar! Oh,and,"I fell of a diving board in Guernsey" Absolute gems!
Victoria Wood has been making me laugh and cry for half of my life! Since I was 9 lying in bed, not really understanding what any of it meant - listening to it on cassette tape - which made it even HARDER as I couldn't see any of the wigs hehe
are the Dinnerladies DVDs subtitled/captioned? I have a hearing impaired mother who loves these shows, but there's little point in buying them and just pausing every five minutes to tell her what everyone said...
No Subtitles on the DVDs unfortunately. :( However, I'm just going off my Complete Collection Set, and I think the Individual releases may be different.
Victoria Wood is the funniest person on the planet but she also has this incredible ability to be poignant. That's why I love her so much - everything is real life with her.
It's such a poignant song - all about the way we nearly all have to compromise and get to grips with the prosaic aspects of life. What happened to all our dreams and aspirations? Victoria Wood is superb in my view. Her humour is so enriched by her keen observations and the way she expresses them.
went to see a live show of this in hull yesterday!! it was amazing! only 2 orgianal cast tho :( rest were all new so it was kind of rubbish =[ only tony and annita was there =[ but they played this song at the end :D it was awsome!!! love the song :)
Yes I know, and they also play it at the end of the final episode - but in both those episodes you only hear a portion of the song. This appearance on Parkinson is the ONLY time when the song has been played fully.
You hear the song at the end of the episode "Millennium", and also at the end of the final episode "Toast". Also, at the end of the episode "Christmas", the Black Dyke Band play a version, but the uploader is correct, it's never actually heard in its entirety.
Beautifully moving song that with the programme and the writer will stand the test of time. Victoria is truly a inspiration and talented women and she has inspired me to carry on writing my comedy drama called "Welcome to Membury" which is set in a service station full of eccentric staff. I've played this tune over and over while I'm writing the scenes for my character's Pat & Lyn and I will carry on playing this tune over and over again.
I was only here looking for Celia Imrie clips...but then I came across this. I'm a HUGE Victoria Wood fan (well, 10.5st. That's huge enough for my height ;)), and I kind of knew the 'Dinnerladies' theme tune...but I didn't know it was such a beautiful song. Thanks so much for posting this! **Goes off to listen again...and again...** :)

This is Wilmslow and Rebecca in her room with a loom and an abutilon plant and a pink teapot.
I loved her but she saw through me. A very long time ago.

All the dreams that you had when it all lay before you
All the plans that you made, all the things you would do
All the schemes that you knew time would bring to fruition
Did they happen? Not so far. At least not to you.
Day by day, drops of water wear the stone away.
Getting up, getting out, getting on, getting going
Wears away at the dreams that you hold in your heart
All the scared little choices you make without knowing
Take away from the thing that you had at the start
Monday, Tuesday...
