i would not say people's style, its the old school way of doing it

but if you want to be faster, and have better transitions i would work the finger tips instead of the flat palm

yeah working the fingertips raises ur waist a little and it makes your foootwork faster and cleaner...only thing is you may develop a callous on ur hands -_-....

i practice my footwork with both flat palm and fingertip techniques so its not a problem for me
