At the time Laird and co had no idea that the comic would become what it did and that the Shredder would become the most popular villain of the Turtles. He still kicks Turtles ass (namely an epic beatdown on Leo) and his legacy scares the piss outta them in the next years.
The throwing the trashcans bit comes from the old Turtle games. It was good use against boss characters :p

Almost all the stuff which people say is out of character for the 87 turtles actualy happened in the old show. They even quote or paraphrase actual lines from the show. I think people need to watch more than just a smattering of early episodes to appreciate how well they've been recreated.

Does anyone think there should be a Turtles cartoon based of the Mirage one? The real turtles were pretty damn violent. The 2003 one is kinda based off the comic, but they should make one that's just like the comic, having the same style, violence and personalities.
They should have brought back demon shredder for this movie. Now he would have been one heck of a challenge. Ever since they revealed within the show that Ch'rell isn't the real Shredder, my likeness for him went down a little as the demon one completely surpassed him.

Of course the 03 series isn't a remake at all, that's like "The Batman" is a remake of "Batman TAS"; it's all Elseworlds, parallel universes. I think that's the exact point of this movie. 87 Turtles has cheesy scripts/jokes, & borrows from bad 50s horror moves, 03 Turtles has cheesy dialog, bad accents, & no sense of humor.

If it wasn't for the '03 show ressurecting them the 80's show would've been a pop culture footnote to trotted out in VH1's I love the 80s. No one gives a shit about the old show other than people who grew up then and even then it's nerds like us who never grew up.

what the hell is up with people hating on the new turtle series, just because they can't stand that is is different than the original? i watched the original as a kid and even though i'm older now, i watched the new series and i really liked it too, so why do these morons keep insulting it, even though they probably haven't seen any of it except for this movie? get over it already.

1. cheap animation
2. tries to hard to be 'dark and gritty' and yet we get neon colored 'creatures from space' like a pink square blob as the shredder. please.
3. instead of the turtles being wise-asses, we get 4 perpetually pissed off for no reason humorless retards.
4. no more brain/recon people of the main protagonists-donatello: fighter, splinter: fighter, april o'neil: fighter
5. 'drunk rickshaw chinaman' splinter voice

yeah. so mature and brooding. dialogue like that sounds no different than something that would come out of the '87 turtles series, so stop acting like it's so superior. at best it is an average remake of the originals, but of course our difference is a generational thing. you come from a generation of zero creativity, so all you get are copies and plagiarism to feel 'nostalgic' about one day

@illuminatioracle i'm not acting like the 03 series is superior but u should stop hatin on them, they were just made for kids from what you call "our generation". the creators of this series just wanted to make tmnt a little more action packed and not quite as goofy cartoon. all creations of the ninja turtles are good in their own way. u can see some stuff from the 87 series in the 03 series only just defined for today's cartoons

@spazzeddaemon I've only seen the opposite; everyone seems to love the newer turtles & thinks the classic is goofy & lame because it diverges heavily from the comic. Of course the 03 series isn't a remake at all, that's like "The Batman" is a remake of "Batman TAS"; it's all Elseworlds, parallel universes. I think that's the exact point of this movie. 87 Turtles has cheesy scripts/jokes, & borrows from bad 50s horror moves, 03 Turtles has cheesy dialog, bad accents, & no sense of humor.

Though the one thing i dont like is the look of it, it seem so plastic and redundant :/

@spazzeddaemon You obviously don't get it, at all. They portray the original (and far superior) series as inferior to the new one. I can only imagine that this is because the creators of the 2003 series know that their series will never ammount up to the awesomeness that is the original from the late 80's and 90's.

@seriegubben Actually this is the guys who wrote the original comics that started the series being mean to the 87 turtles because they never wanted it to happen (or atleast Eastman didn't).

Because this movie takes every opportunity to take a shit on the '87 cartoon. I like the '03 cartoon, don't get me wrong, but there's some genuine mean-spiritedness going on with regards to how the older series is represented here. And it's....well, Eastman and Laird trolling on it.
It's a good movie, don't get me wrong, but...*sigh* You get what I'm saying.

@nights1515 Considering the amount of homages and lines lifted directly from the 80's show I doubt that. This is the ultimate tribute to the Fred Wolf Cartoon ever.
If it wasn't for the '03 show ressurecting them the 80's show would've been a pop culture footnote to trotted out in VH1's I love the 80s. No one gives a shit about the old show other than people who grew up then and even then it's nerds like us who never grew up.
Same will happen with the '03 show when the next version hits
