  • It's HOT and bright! Thinbk about it!

  • This is such a cool uplifting song. I love to get pissed and play this loud. Right this minute I'm singing with the blackbirds.

  • The thing that always surprises me about Ryan Adams' music is that it's usually crazy-simple to play: capo on 3, C, G, F, Am. A decent amount of his songs are just those chords rearranged. But somehow, every song still seems really self-contained and in its own little world. It's actually pretty inspiring. Makes me want to write my own music more.

  • @niedec You know... I keep telling myself the same thing. I do some writing and anytime I come up with a simple chord progression I toss it aside for being just that - simple. Yet I keep listening to and playing 3 and 4 chord songs (Ryan Adams especially) when I do covers and loving every minute of it. WTF?

  • @saltvisionmusic Musicians have done a lot with a little (Beatles, Nirvana, definitely), and that should be inspiring, not shameful. Also, it tends to be much more fun to play. You can do more with it. Love and adore Elliott Smith, but his songs are always very complex, with so many versions, that you know someone will tell you you're playing them wrong. Makes you feel uptight and self-conscious.

Out of curiosity, what are your favorite Ryan Adams songs/regular songs to play?

  • @niedec We play "Gonna Make You Love Me More" off Gold and "To Be Young" and "Oh My Sweet Carolina" off Heartbreaker. I will say the "Gonna Make You Love Me More" has quite a few more chords than his standard stuff but it's always a huge hit with the crowd. We also play "Nurse with the Pills" from his Whiskeytown days. In fact, we even named our band "Stranger's Almanac" after that album. We just went and saw him when he was in St. Louis. Great show.

  • @niedec I would also like to point out that Ryan Adams is virtually unknown when we play at the bars. You say "that was Ryan Adams" and everyone's like "who? - was that Bryan Adams?" :) But as much as the bar crowd likes to here songs they already know, Ryan Adams songs are always instantly liked by the crowd. I would consider that a testament to his song-writing skills.

  • one of the most hard working and truly origonal artists out there, bless you ryan...loved the apollo gig, especially when you got irate with the bryan adams thing...you had a rant...then a bloke shouted out with a top northern accent..."wind your neck in son"..class

  • in my top 5 lyricists. if not #1. sure, you can do more creative and impressive things with the language, but not with this kind of sincerity.

  • HAHA he's so awesome I acctually don't know what to comment sometimes, I can't explain how awesome this is.

The feeling I get, listening to his songs, I don't know. He's just... wow.

  • Next guy I fall in love with - If he doesn't like Ryan Adams' music, we're done.

  • This song is UNBELIEVABLE!!! I absolutely love it.

  • gr8 driving record! buying it!

  • fantastic song love all of ryans work.

    keep writing music man

  • Has anyone else noticed that the melody of the song is a little similar to Gerry Rafferty's City To City, especially the harmonica parts?

  • awesome--thanks!

  • This song is just tremendous

  • WTG Ryan, Always str8 from the heart. Shine on brother !!!!!

  • Ryan Adams is the man. Not enough musicians play harmonica anymore. All my buddies wanna do is listen to rap or screamo, they think it's so good how can they not see that it all sounds the same and listen to musicians like Ryan Adams. it's just good musical talent.

  • goooooooooood song

  • PIMP!!!!
