What a great video, Dave! I saw the great Mike Duff on the Island on his G50, before he and Phil Read joined up to ride works Yamaha's. "Make Haste, Slowly" is a great read.
The basic G50 and Manx Norton engines could have produced significantly more power than 50 bhp +, had they been developed to rev. faster. 8,000 rpm isn't much by today's standads, when you look at the 300cc cylinders of F1 cars, revving at 18,000 rpm, albeit with completely different technology.
So, like WHO'S the chappie that didn't like this. Maybe you thought it was about a lad, without matches, who wonders about the Island...looking for "a light?"
@britishbikes12 Did you ALSO view the other clips in the series? Do you REALLY possess 12 BB's? Back in the '60's & '70's I had a Velocette Thruxton & Bsa Thunderbolt.
@zuzulo56 I do not have any now. My last one was a hopped up B50 sold in '10. Got tired of the constant fiddling and tinkering. I never owned more than two at once. I wanted "britishbikes" but the name was taken, so I tried britishbikes12. At the time I was a mechanic in a BSA/ Triumph restoration and parts house. All I have now is an R6. I even sold my ww spanners/ sockets and special tools. I learned everything important from BSA and Triumph but live easier w modern machines.
@jeffdrouin Afterwards...I don't believe he would 'ave sounded so relaxed otherwise! (To see the pilot, Dave Roper, check out my channel OR access the link given in this vid's description!
Thanks for this beautiful video. Did I count 5 speeds? How come the audio is free from wind noise? Is it a remote mic and if so where is it situated? The bike sounds great when you blip the throttle for down changes.
@devstube As I under it, the MIC was afixed to the rider's back...heavily shielded these blokes new what they were doing!). Yes, a custom built 5 spd. tranny. Did you pick up the carb "missing" (starving ) near the end of the lap?
Nice to see an " old G 50" passing the pack.

insanely well ridden, smooth on the throttle, incredibly fast, and with the and the narrator's voice it is even verry hypnotic.... great great stuff.

@pathund The narrator is the rider. Don't forget to view Part 2. I personally love it more than this segment.

Wow lot of slow traffic. Good running bike! Seems like the camera would fragment after being on a British single for more than .5 seconds.

Excellent video of a fantastic bike! Was the commentary added afterward, or did they mic the helmet too?
