  • Do you have any idea if a replacement stock could be found for a nylon 66? I broke the front end of the stock off up by the muzzle. I squared it off and epoxyed the the end and it works OK but would not mind repacing it if possible!

  • Hey i watched this vid to day to help me take apart and put together my grandfathers remington 22lr that i inherited when he past away and it was in a shed in florida for 3 years and i just gt it back yesterday with rust ALL over it and it helped alot to day when i stripped it and blued it cleand and reasembled!.

  • My dad also gave me my Nylon 66 , Jus picked it up the other day I have much more guns , but this one means the most we use to shoot It together growing up , Shoots just as good as when he got It . I'm pretty sure I have the Mohawk brown . And thanks for this video It really helped alot

  • I got one for graduating from 7th grade, it's a brown tubular one, the cost was $49.95.

  • my .66 is a 10 round clip mag loader from the bottom of the receiver, it has REP stamped on it, and doesnt have that tub in the butt of the rifle... but it looks exactly the same as that one does... does that mean i dont have a 66? any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • my dad baought his over in germany when he was in the army for like $60 black and chrome and he threw ona $70 scope its the most beautiful semi auto bad ass rifle ive seen have you any clue where i can buy a 22 with magazine and bolt action for if not cheap a reasonable price

  • Where exactly is that code you talk abut guys? i see one on top on barrel, it say:

    X P X

Also found one close to the barrel extremety, saying like:

    4156 or 4158 or 415P

Wich one is the manufactured code?

  • thank you i have just picked one up used, so i needed to clean it this was a great help.

  • very helpful thanks

  • Love mine never will sell it so damm accurate would love a bigger clip that would be sweet

  • was the guy in the video drunk or something?............

  • @stay4508 nah, just a little high

  • mine has a dn40 could you tell me when it was manufacturered, its black & chrome

  • This guy should learn more about the gun in his videos before he tries telling someone else how to do things

  • 1st step always- make sure weapon is clear

  • @shrapnel762

this should be the #1 comment.

  • asian ladies for dating # lushfmlk.info #

  • Thank you. Good info.

  • fantastic video. very helpful

  • I was inquiring about an old rifle that was in my attic since before I was born. After as much research as the internet would provide me with, I've come to the conclusion that it is a "Seneca Green" model nylon 66. It is in perfect condition except for some tiny scratches near the trigger, and I honestly don't think it's ever been fired. There is no serial number on the gun, the color looks like a dull greenish olive color. I just wonder how much it's worth??

  • Dig it! I've bought one new 20 years ago and used it for the first time and it jams! Should I clean it? I remember hearing about it as a teenager back in the mid 60's. They were known for not jamming. I remember the old coot that shot 100k tossed wood blocks and missed only 6. Glad I bought one b4 they stopped making them.

  • i have one that has D F 0 or D F O on it and i heard that they mean it was made in december, 1959...iam not sure if this is true...i was wondering if someone could tell me if its worth anything or if that its really from 1959

  • @Choncho203 The date code for these rifles is usually the first 2 letters. In your case the DF would put it at Sept. 1959. You can find out more about the date codes at our site. As far as what it is worth, depends on what kind of condition and if it is a Mohawk Brown or a Seneca Green stock. could be worth any where from $150 to $300 or $400.

  • @LouieMacGoo

sweet thanks...i dont know i just wanted to know how much its worth i dont even think i would sell it if i could get 10000 for it haha...it has alot of centimental value...and i just took the barrel off and cleaned it a ton and the it looks a little better but the rifling still looks like its wearing away...shoud i not shoot it anymore to preserve it...i dont want to stop shooting it but if its going to ruin it then i will stop shooting it what do you think

  • @LouieMacGoo My 66 says J D R... could you give me some insight on that

  • @JethroTull18 The J may be just assembler or inspector stamp. It really hasn't been clear what that 3rd letter stamp is exactly. The other letters D R indicate that the gun was manufactured in Sept 1968. You can find out more at our website by doing a search for "manufacturer date codes" or by joining the forum. There are much more knowledgable people in the forum that can help you with your questions.

  • @LouieMacGoo Thank You, and I will

  • @LouieMacGoo mine says it's made in brazil is your made in brazil because i wanted to see if yours was the same

  • my dad has given me his nylon 66...its the first gun i have ever shot...iam still not entirley sure if its fully mine yet haha...but i cant find a cerial number on it and it has never been cleaned and it works fine and it hardly looks like there is any rifling left but it is still just as accurate as my ruger 10/22

  • @Choncho203 If you can't see the any rifling it could mean one of 2 things, either the barrel is really dirty or the rifle you have is actually a Nylon 10SB (Smooth Bore) but I would bet it just needs a good cleaning with a good stiff brush.

  • I love my nylon 66, it has been passed down I am the third generation to own it, my great grandfather won it in a poker game a long long time ago. anyways justaman try it at 100 yards, it is funny, you have to aim a little bit high but, you hear the gun go pow then halve a second later you hear the .22 round hit the target. I am not that good of a shot, but I can hit a 1ft by 1ft paper target at a 100 yards with stock sights, it is amaizing how accurate this gun is. It is dead on.

  • The original manuals don't say how to take them down farther than removing the reciever cover and barrel. I usually just hold open the bolt and use a bore snake to clean out the barrel.Works fine for me.

  • @doughesson Many of these Nylon Rifles are 50 or nearing 50 years old and have never been cleaned but no longer function as they should Also people have lubricated them with some type of oil which overtime mixes with the power residue and creates a "sludge", which slows down the bolt action resulting in mis-fires. Many times a good through cleaning can resolve many of the problems that people experience.

  • thanx iwas wonderin how to take apart n clean

  • Great video, very informative. Thanks!

  • Thanks Loui, you are all right man! I'll join the forum so my Apache brown Nylon66 can join his brothers.

    Dan

  • Thank goodness the 66 is the same as the 77 that I have. Minus the magazine tube. 77 has mag. MIRANDA MOON, that wasn't a round falling out. That little flap came up on that barrel piece.

  • at 3 mins 37 seconds a bullet falls out of the chamber LOOK!?!?! please unload your guns before disassembling.

  • @ LouiemacGoo, I have a #66 love this rifle. I am former Army and this is by far the most accurate rifle I have ever shot. With 1" groups of ten at 50 yrs prone. with the stock sights, sounds hard to believe but I will post a video of this soon. Never knew how to clean it. Sad I know but, you have changed this and I thank you.

  • great help, just acquired a nylon 66 and its in a right state, now in bits and being restored to its original condition, thanx for the help. Guy UK

  • Being overconfident in my abilities to disassemble/ reassemble my nylon 66, this video linked me to your site, where I found the detailed assembly guide. Damn that trigger was hard to put back in. Lol. Thanks for the good resources.

  • I have one and I like it . Thanks for the vid...very helpful

  • My grandpa had this gun and never knew how to take it apart to clean it and neither did I. This a great video! Thanks.

  • It's always a good idea to tell your gun owners to set the parts they are removing from left to right, or right to left in a line so that they will easily be able to put it back together in correct order. Other than that, good video.

  • I HAVE THE APACHE BLACK WITH THE CHROME BBL THAT I BOUGHT NEW AROUND 1970'S FOR ABOUT $65.00 & HAVE SHOT DOZENS OF WOODCHUCKS WITH IT & THE STINGER AMMO ONE SHOT KILLS EVERY TIME, i WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHO SELLS SPARE PARTS FOR THIS GUN AS NUMRICH ARMS & BROWNELLS DO NOT HAVE ANY PARTS IN STOCK, WHERE ELSE CAN I GET A NEW TUBE FEEDER FOR IT ?

  • Best .22 rifle ever made. Damn shame I didn't get to keep the family's MB66 that was bought in 1964. Not a scratch on it. But since then have found several for reasonable price and have restored several. Thanks for video, forum is the greatest- been a member for a long time.

  • Good video but you forgot the most important thing. YOU DID NOT CHECK TO SEE IF THE GUN WAS LOADED PRIOR TO DISASSEMBLY!

  • i have a Black and Chrome one :) dont make em anymore

  • I loved my nylon 66 when I had it. Mine was a clip feed though.

  • Thats a nylon 77 then. The 66 fed bullets through the back of the buttstock

  • Having lost the instruction manual, your video is invaluable! Thanks for your effort!

  • well..mine has a chrome finish at the top..

  • i have like seven 66s..best fucking 22 ever made!!

  • @Dammmj if you had 6 66s...that would be the mark of the beast...he-he.

  • thank you for help me....

  • So I am in a debate for my final in Business and law class where someone is suing the gun company becuase the safety was on and everything but the ugn somehow went off while he was carrying it and hit him in the head. He survived the gunshot but is injured and stuff so his borther and hiim want to sue the gun company. The bullet came from at least 29 inches away though. How long is the standard length of the gun, this Nylon 66 Remington rifle?

  • 19.5 bbl, 39LOA. Not a possible scenario.

I believe that the person in question was shot from 3 feet away by someone else playing with the gun in an unsafe manner.

Rule 1: Muzzle in a safe direction (not at someone's head)

Rule 2: Action open and safe. (not loaded)

Rule 3: Trigger clear. (finger off the trigger)

If ONE of these rules was followed such an incident could not of happened.

The jury finds for the defendant due to lack of proper care and diligence on the part of the plaintiff.

  • Right off the bat you forgot to check to insure the rifle wasn't loaded. You went back and installed the bolt handle and moved it backwards twice, but you never visually confirmed that the chamber was empty. You could have had a stuck ctg. in the chamber.

Other than that it was a pretty good video with the exception of knowing the names of the various parts.

  • great info, easy to understand THANKS a MILLION!!!

  • Great video! I was cleaning my 22 the other day. I broke my cock (your called it a bolt handle) while I was cleaning. I thought I would have to take it completely apart to replace it. I would have never thought to just pull it out. I had to use a needle nose pliers to get a hold of it. Now I need to find a replacement part. Thank you Leigh.

  • I mean someway to put more than 15 bullets on back of the gun , if someone find some idea please share with us :)

  • I have a nylon 66 as well made by remington licento to CBC ( brazilian) it is same remington, I should to know if there is a mod to put more bulets on chamber , some way to improve that , and some mod to transform this gun in full auto , thanks folks great job.

  • Very nice demo !!!! I purchased my fist Nylon 66 forrty years ago..Best Rifle I had Ever...Pasted it on to my Son in law, and eventually to his Son Justin..for last year Xmas...I wish I had your video to clean up my Gun.. Over the years I finally figured on the tricks.....thxs Hey..if you purchased the Gun for $40.00 I buy it for $100.00 I miss my ole "66" Dave

  • My brother-in-law sold me a nice one of these a couple years ago for $40. I didn't know it then, but I got a fantastic deal!

  • hah! i got one used from a friend for $40 too!

  • I had the chance to own one of these years ago and regret not getting it. You cannot find them anymore.

  • Very helpful, thanks much.

  • Thanks for the demo. My Dad gave me one of those rifles in the 60's and its never been cleaned properly that I know of. It's got to be the most trouble free gun I ever had.

  • U have no idea how helpful this was. My grandfather left me this gun and it had never been cleaned. Now it can be... YOU ROCK!

  • I'd like to see you do better! Way to be a positive community member!

  • I'll second step one below. Step two - put brain in gear before engaging mouth. But then, I couldn't do as well. We're looking forward to your next video..

  • Step One: Make sure the gun is unloaded!

  • Anyone want to purchase a black and silver nylon 76 with a scope? I have one that I inherited but have never/will never use.

  • how much do u want for it

  • I am interested. How much would you like for it?

  • Umm... I already sold it. Got a nice price for it, too.

  • @worldofjohnboy how much did ya sell it for i have one and want to selll mine? please help

  • @joydivisionthecure: I think the final bid was something in the neighborhood of $2200. I used gunbroker

  • he broke cardinal rule # 1...verify gun is UNLOADED! otherwise, good clip despite misnaming of parts.

  • Great vid Sir, thanks for sharing! I've had my Nylon 66 for a long time and never did more than a routine cleaning. Now, with your vid, I can get in there and get all the crud out.

    Thanks again!

  • this certainly helped me. Thanks so much

  • Sweet. I'm assuming that that 66 disasembles much the same as the 22 since they both look exactly the same.

Oh, and, I've only shot my 22 at a range once and noticed I couldn't hit the target after it got hot. Basic physics I guess.

  • Dude, I'm such a dumass. The 66 is a 22....lol

  • u also replyed to ur own comment lol

  • oh shit

i went into the trigger assembly

im messed up with that lil spring and metal piece, hopefully the website will help

  • Anyone want to purchase my 76 Nylon black/chrome with scope and case/sheath?

  • Thanks for your quick reply. My loss, your gain.

  • Put in the firing pin striker spring and sleeve, then push the firing pin striker down as far as it will go. Just under the striker there are 2 flat pieces of metal. If you pull on the trigger, the forward piece will move slightly more forward. While pulling the trigger, push down the back metal piece and then slide the striker back. It should now slide back further and allow you to cock it. I don't know the names of the pieces.

  • oh yeah

the gun store also told me a nylon 66 has more parts than a 50 cal. machine gun the military uses

  • ha i wish i had found this years earlier

i found out the hard way and had to pay

50 bucks for the gun store to put it back together

  • Thanks a bunch for this vid, my father has an old Remington Nylon 66 that he had stored away in his garage for many many years and i finally convinced him to get it out so we can work on it. =]

  • OMG! Thanks! I want tune up my Remington Nylon 66, it was stored for so long!

Do I have to get high too to clean it? lol

Who knows what's the accurate range on this baby?

  • Really helpful vid. I've got my late grandfather's Nylon 66, and the action hadn't been cleaned in YEARS. It looked like someone threw it in a pit of black sand. It really wasn't that hard to take apart or reassemble.

  • well done lee....thanks for the helpful video.

  • how about reassembly?

  • I cocked the gun before I disammbled it, and accidentally pulled the trigger while it was apart. I can not get it to recock, and i can not get the pin back in that allow you to put your finger on it to cock it. what do i do? it was my dads gun and i tried helping him out lol, now im stuck! Thanks

  • This came in need. I havent touch my 66 for three years and this is refresher.

  • Thanks - this was a helpful video.

  • This is as far as I go for normal cleaning as well. Good video. I look forward to a detailed disassembly as well. By the way, I think you mean ejector and not retractor.

  • Just to clarify this, I used my sons name on you tube to post this remark, so if you were to look youd see a 20 year old on the bio, I hate signing up on all these sites so I USE HIM! haha Thanks

    Detective Dad

  • As the owner of Nylon 66 for over 34 years, and a FBI trained Firearms Instructor and Armorer, I would like to add that before you do anything with a firearms, cleaning, repair, showing it to a buddy, Inspect the chamber and Magazine/Ammo Tube to insure the weapon is unloaded DON'T RELY ON A DIRTY EXTRACTOR so before you strip it, Visually and Physically inspect it, nothing ruins your day more than an accidental discharge. BE SAFE!! HAPPY PLINKING!

  • Yupp this is very true the man that taught me to shoot drove this into my head. I was just going to say the same thing but i saw u already did =P
