  • Real Indonesians say goodbye and good riddance to the Dutch. They treated Indonesian people like 2nd class citizens in their own country! Im Scottish married to an Indonesian woman. We know what it was like to have some foreigner trying to rule us, we didn't allow it to happen and kicked them out. Respect Indonesia for doing the same. Forget the emotional music and what "you think" it was like all those years ago..it's better now. Hey if you dont beleive me, ask an Indonesian citizen!

  • people have to understand yes we were treated like shit by the dutch but look at indonesia now its stinky, dirty with a very corrupt government. in indonesia 13% of the people live below the poverty line because of this and it makes me sad how indonesia turned into this

  • no Starbucks!! no megamovies !!! No place for clubbings!!! GASP!!!

  • kenapa sih harus ribut2.... yg udah berlalu biarkan jadi pelajaran.. ambil baik nya tinggalin jelek nya beres kan....

  • Londo271

That is something in the past between the dutch and indonesians we live in the Future and they live in the past and keep reminding us what we did in Indonesia and it was bad we know that and we feel srry for that and i don't hate them ore like them it's just History can't change anymore it's just they way it is

  • watching this video makes me realize how lucky i am to live in the presents

  • indonesia living a better life when the dutch are expelled,

sure who need to be control by the weakest country in europe ??

the one who get beaten easily and swift by third reicht germany ?

now all dutch people can do is sucking each other in the name of the freedom of Homosexual mariage..

the country who end up being loser after world war II .

even they didn't anything lead to war. they losing everything..

    poor dummy dutch. lol

  • @nervousbreakdown1984 What an ignorant comment!

  • @Londo271 i'm telling the truth, so all the pathetic dutch shall shut their mouth, dutch are evil, they didn't give anything to indonesia. evil empire who act like country robber, yeah dutch robbing indonesia, and fill the indonesian with stupidity, i think that's pure evil.. and i'm glad Adolf Hitler come and put back the real european loser to his chair... may the god giving hell to all your king and queen netherland !!!

  • @nervousbreakdown1984 Speaking about a nervousbreakdown...hihihi.

Thats not the truth, thats your biased ignorant opinion.

  • @Londo271 you said that because you have no words to prove that you're not stupid and pathetic. hahahaha

  • @nervousbreakdown1984 you i don't mean it that way but the way you got indepent is just wrong for both Indonesia as Netherlands it wasn't peacefully so i only meant to say i wish that it happend a other way because now a lot of Indonesian people and Dutch people don't like each other and srry for some really bad comments of me i was mad because i read al the bad comments about the netherlands

  • @rickdddm Is that so? Do the Dutch now have problems with Indonesians? How come?

  • @rickdddm real man won't ask for their freedom. they fight for it. save that words inside your brain brother. i hope it could give you better perspective when you see why indonesian fighting for their freedom. it's a natural calling for human to seek the comfort when they feel so un-comfort, sadly netherland was the one who give the indonesian very uncomfort situations. treating the native citizens equall with dog. i don't think it's pretty delicious things to do

  • @GoodG4U2: Yes, Jakarta was well maintained and taken care under the Dutch for THE DUTCH, while they sucked the native blood. Read what prominent scholars like Ricklefs, Howard Dick, etc. write about Indonesia's history, especially during the Cultivation System. How the Dutch became prosperous by sucking Javanese people blood!

  • How beautiful it all was. Too bad those silly Japanese came in 1942, otherwise we would still live the lovely romantic life of the Netherlands Indies.

May God bless Queen Beatrix! GOD SAVE THE QUEEN!!!

Bloody suicidal Japanese idiots! Hate them...

  • Wish the Japanese had never existed!!! We would otherwise still live the good old Netherlands-Indies ways of living! Look at it, so marvelous! Bloody Japanese... How I wish the Dutch still rules...

May God protect and bless Queen Beatrix. God Save the Queen!!!

  • @3082103 Queen Beatrix....Beeppp...kidding me?

What you need to see is where the normal Indonesian lived.

Even before the Japanese came there were already problems in Indonesia.

  • we don't and never needs dutch people....we know more what they doing with our country........thats all just look a like(this video), but the reality is nothing like that...i know who they are...im living 20 years in the netherlands...i know who they are...10% we can take somethings from them, but we don't wants them here in our country

  • luarbiasa jakarta tempo doloe

  • Only 25 years ago, Yogya and Bandung looked a bit like this.

Amazing footage though: to see a Jakarta that isn't totally overrun by cheap-mopeds-on-credit, like every major city on Jawa is now.

  • Batavia in 1930s = 0,1 million peoples. Jakarta in 2010 = 10 million peoples +

  • @poerbean

Totally, what makes Jakarta so intolerable is the number of people! The city can't cope. But still they come...

  • How come Jakarta (Batavia) on that year much-much more better than now? Very steady..

  • Some people say that everything that the Dutch government did in the former Dutch East Indies, nowadays Indonesia, was bad, but in orginasation the Dutch are far more better than the Indonesian government. In those days, everybody could go to school, there were no religion-problems, and the Chinese were not discriminated as they are now!! Some things are nowadays totally out of control!!

  • hmm....gw rasa soeharto sedang main klereng di halaman belakang rumah nih/...hwehehehe gw suka banget suasana nya...asli gw cinta batavia!!

  • I am amazed at the reactionary colonial comments I read here. It is very easy to say that Batavia was neater and cleaner than Jakarta... it was also 100 times smaller. Amsterdam was also a lot nicer in 1930 than it is now. My mother was born in Batavia but I still love Jakarta and the people and I am proud Indonesia is developing so well. It is wrong to be nostalgic and not realize how many Indonesians suffered under Dutch rule.

  • @hersenlozeslet Cities were small because most people lived in the country, not in cities..the modern world with its economic groth takes place in cities, as population grows people move to cities and they become megapolis like Jakarta or Delhi or Bombay.

  • @hersenlozeslet I Agree.... I do agree.

  • Wow..

Old Jakarta / Batavia is so...

    Fantastic..!

    No Polutions..

    No Trash..

Easy to find empy green land..

    Clean water..

I wish it would stay that way until now..

    Jakarta will be better..

  • I love the old batavia than jakarta nowadays. Look clean and peace

  • its all baout the time....maybe 5-10 years again,,,jakarta will be back civilizes...now jakarta is in progress...just wait and see....proud to be jakarta citizen.every high populate country in the world has slum area....even japan has slum area too in tokyo.but now jakarta gov has made a great plan for replace the slum area into cheap apartment..its just about the time! thenew flood canal also will be operated this year.the MRT in 2014,KRL,LRT,and more transjakarta corridor in the next 4 years..

  • @pionisgood Thanks for the info bro..Now,I was relieved to hear it.. :)

  • @lagodaxnian metro mini, kopaja, and other uncivilization bus also will be replace with new bus or pemda call (busway feeder) in 2015 (after all transjakarta project are finished )...this year...a small car call "tawon" will replace "bajaj"...the target is in 2014 there are no bajaj in jakarta...city park? now jakarta has so many park..and waterway will be operated on new canal flood...and just waiting for "orchad road" jakarta version on the street near SenopatiCBD...

  • @pionisgood OMG.. BRO !! I just realized that in this video really a lot of stupid and ignorant comments from dutch people who are still have mentally just like Hitler ! do you also realize that the progress that you receive now comes from Indonesia's natural wealth that you stole? do not say your people more civilized if you still think like this ! even though our country not yet develop and prosper as you,at least we never become a "thief" in another country !! Lol..you dutch are very funny !!

  • @lagodaxnian Well, you certainly look in a very short way! The railways over there are still from the Dutch, so are many Indonesian frigates. And yes, we stole, I won't deny that, but there were no religious problems, health care and education and food for everyone, and peace. I won't talk about Timor, the Moluk-Islands and further on. So look at your own country first, old fellow!

  • @lagodaxnian another good news Are the "trem" system that you watch in this video will be back in jakarta...it will operated in the biggest superblock in ASEAN (rasuna epicentrum, university of indonesia) and the most proudly are (the trem is 100% made in Indonesia from PT.INKA) ....the biggest library also has been completely finish this year..

  • @pionisgood oh...woww !! i just can't wait to see all.. :)

  • I love old Jakarta...very civilized,unlike now..so many slums and pollution.. :(

  • ternxata jakrta dulu indah ya dr bngunannx ky d eropa g ky skrng kotanx jd semraut......

I Luv Indonesia..!!!!

Batavia is Dutch pronounce of Betawi, the local ethnic tribe.

When Japanese came in 1942 the city name was changed into Jakarta till present...

  • speechless..

  • Beautiful film & musical background. I was born in Batavia in 1932 and I have known these surroundings showed in the film.. but am I nostalgic? NO. My father was an Indonesian intellectual trained in Holland and Switzerland. These people suffered the most from discrimination and other humiliating stances of the oppressor. And they knew that their country and their nation was being suppressed. That we are being spit on . NO NOSTALGIA only admiration for nice film.

  • its so much different now

  • oh heil hitler, please come to my batavia, oh great fuhrer, plese hit the dutch and take my batavia away.

  • hitler? hitler didn't care shit for indonesia so did hirohito.

  • Look how beautiful Jakarta was. So clean and less congested. It must have been a wonderful city to live in. Now look at it. The canals are choked with floating garbage, the streets are clogged with honking cars and buses. I bet a lot of older Indonesians would like to see the Dutch return!

  • @katyu16 yes exactly, that's what I am trying to tell. It was better in those times. Asian people cannot live to western lifestyle. If the Dutch remained, it would be like Europe now in Indonesia.

  • @barthoedemaker Yes, and no Indonesian could manage to stay alive, we all had starved to death.... You are f*****g right!

  • hey what do you know about this, soory where are you from i dont like the words you said batavia it will be better if the dutch return..like you said before you know why in jakarta now its not like past because its the goverment who not concern to what happen now in jakarta so it back to returned to their individual to have awareness to make a better live and jakarta become clean and the canals not full with floating garbage.

  • @katyu16

such is the price of freedom. It's a wonderful city if you're a Dutchmen, or working for the Dutch. Of course there is a lot less traffic back then. Because if you are a commoner, chances are you won't be driving anything, let alone own anything.

  • Hey "ambercrown", when were you born? Although Indonesia was under Dutch Colonial, it was well maintained and taken care of. Look @ Jakarta now, yes, there are many new buildings but the pollution, environment, and the huge gap between the "haves" and the "have nots". To me, Indonesia should have been under the Dutch not until It's ready for Independence. After more than 60 yrs freedom .. it's not getting better .. it's very unfortunate !!

  • Geez, it's 2009 people !! and you are still believe on colonialism?? what are you?? a man trapped in time machine?? Read the Universal Declaration of Human Rights Everyone is entitled to all the rights and freedoms set forth in this Declaration, without distinction of any kind, such as race, colour, sex, language, religion, political or other opinion, national or social origin, property, birth or other status.

  • Furthermore, no distinction shall be made on the basis of the political, jurisdictional or international status of the country or territory to which a person belongs, whether it be independent, trust, non-self-governing or under any other limitation of sovereignty.

  • @GoodG4U2 It is just 60 years man! Look at what Dutch had done to our country in 3.5 centuries? I am an Acehnese and I still remember a lot of extremely sad stories told by my grandmother.

  • @GoodG4U2

But I don't think you can ignore the 33 years that Soeharto and family were siphoning off the riches. That's an entire generation solidly brainwashed. That, plus 400-odd years of mixed foreign control in the psyche means Indonesia has only really been independent since about 1998, not six decades.

(OK, there was a brief respite with Soekarno, but that was quickly stopped).

Should Dutch rule have continued? Probably not.

Can Indonesia think for itself? Eventually.

  • @oo1ooo1o

    self determenation comes to mind

  • @GoodG4U2 Live under Dutch rule again? No way! Being taken care while those arrogant pigs plunder our natural resources and treat us like dogs? You can go to hell!

  • @1234kemuning watch don't speak that way over The Netherlands we didn't do anything wrong we even gave you independentie and in that time maybe it wasn't so smart by Soekarno to make Indonesia independent at that time The Netherlands woud gave indonesia independentie any way but it might it was smarter to stay in The Netherlands an till the world became peace full at that time

  • @rickdddm

indonesian freedom is gained with pride.

    they're not begging for it.

    they fight for it.

and dutch is a total loser country, who can't beat the strong little indonesian

dutch are weak, evil and manipulative

that's they're always be till armageddon come

  • @nervousbreakdown1984 Yeah Indonesia is so Much beter know biggest shit hole of the world and the only way you got Independece was because America was a major bitch at the time to European country's so Drop dead The Netherlands was and is a good country and we still feel bad about what happend we leave it to the past but 60 years later Indonesia is still a bitch about it so go jump in the fucking ocean

Dus flikker op vuile terig lijer pfff

  • @rickdddm

deep inside my heart i pray to the lord, USA never help indonesia revolutions. cuz if they didn't involve, it means netherland will write the longest list of dutch people who Killed in Actions. just like what USA got in vietnam. dutch will only have to options : rotting in hell or start sucking each other dick in the name of defeatist shame of european loser. lol that's freakin funny

  • @nervousbreakdown1984 Killed in action more people died in thoose Camps in WO2 yeah and you fucking monkey's really tryed to help us and you no whats funny that we still pay millions to Indonesia every year to help the poor and 60 years later huhhh nothing changed well one thing now theres more than 70% procent of the indo population live in dirty small old homes and have no jobs os are on drugs and yeah we do drugs to but less then you Buttfucking Monkeys so go FUCK YOURE SELF

  • @rickdddm Why are you using bad words? If you really think they are monkeys, then what are you doing here? After the war many Dutch/Europeans and Indonesian Dutch(Indische Nederlanders), also Chinese, etc, were killed. At the beginning of the new republic of Indonesia, they the Indonesians didn't want anything of the Dutch, not even money. It was much later the relationship between Indonesia and Holland became slowly better.

  • @rickdddm The reason why many Indonesians are still bitching about it, because of the many ignorant arrogant comments many Dutch make. Is a known fact that most Dutch don't know much about the colonial past of Indonesia.

  • @Londo271 I know that but dont look to the past but toward the future and let it go

  • @rickdddm if you really want to look toward the future THEN STOP BARKING ABOUT " INDONESIA SHOULD STILL UNDER NETHERLAND " cuz it's against your words. unless if you actually really wish it

  • @nervousbreakdown1984 Why don't you stop oinking, and try to see it in a unbiased way....

  • @1234kemuning FUCK DUTCH FUCK THE QUEEN OF THE DUTCH, FAGGOT !!

  • @GoodG4U2 the most stupid and full of hallucination opinion i ever saw in youtube. congrats you have the trash can as your crown king dork

  • indahnya kota batavia dulu

  • @ Ambercrown

  • Jakarta looked amazing up to late 70's maybe early 80's ...it's a big mess now. Looking at this video, it looks like Jakarta is going backwards

  • iya bener jakarta dulu lebuh rapi...

    kyk kota2 di eropa euyyy.........

  • Looking at the old time of my city and looking at nowaday , really cant help the sadness , once was so beautiful. All Gone

  • Chinese are an uninvited non-assimilating clannish colonial import. The Dutch and British imported the Chinese to destroy local indigenous authority, confiscate indigenous lands for cash-crop plantations- to be run, administered and brutally enslave the indigenous as forced labour.

  • No one misses the Dutch.

They were a hated racist oppressor- who killed millions of Javanese and stole billions from Java.

The film conveniently does not show the common Dutch sign "Geen Honder of Inlanders"- No Dogs or Natives (allowed)

Dutch stole our lands to give to the hated uninvited parasite: the Chinese lickspittle.

Natives were forced to work as slaves under the hated Chinese on their own lands.

Millions died of Starvation directly from Chinese and Dutch greed

  • And you say that now the lives of the average Indonesian is better ?

The average Indonesian barely makes enough money to buy one meal a day,

It doesn't look like the average Indonesians life has improved more that they have gotten worse.

If you stayed part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands you would have had much better social legislation, and a more fair distribution of wealth.

And also much better functioning government institutions.

  • And you wouldn't have had Suharto as dictator.

He's probably one of the greatest mass murderers of the 20th century.

He killed between half a million and a million Indonesians,

  • Retard- research before you open your fool mouth.

UN DP figures clearly prove Independence has massively improved the life of Indonesians

Under the Dutch- more than 80% lived below poverty line. Now 20%.

Literacy rates & school enrolments were once near zero under hated Dutch to 90%+.

The Dutch killed more than 3 million Javanese through Cultuurstelsel system, in a period when Java had only 40 million people..

Dutch killed 200,00+ during the Java War

  • Indonesia would have been richer then Japan, Singapore or Malaysia if they had stayed part of the Netherlands.

And what is it today ? Hundreds of people die in a flood because you don't know how to maintain a dam.

Independence has been and continues to be a disaster.

  • where are you from?

  • Your really are mentally inept.

Indonesian GDP is GREATER than Malaysian moron,m mas is GNI-PPP- gross national income.

Instead of sucking Dutch penis read a books, university-level text.,

Singapore is the Suisse of the East- exactly in line with King Rama I of Thailands' quote: Chinese are the Jew of the East .

Singapore has been documented laundering money from Chinese criminals in Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand and Phillippines, as well as African dictators- commonly corrupted by the Dutch.

  • UN figures:

Life expectancy 1938 for male Javanese- 48 years. Female- 53 years.

Outside Java- unknown- Dutch never bothered with census for natives.

Figures are from Christian/ Muslim burial documents.

1999 life expectancy male Java- 70 years

    Female: 73 years.

Hospitals in Batavia 1938: 10- 9 for whites only

Hospitals 2008 Jakarta: 120, 1 UNWHO awarded pathology/virology/immunology centre of excellence, 5 cancer specialist 1500 village-level health clinics (PusKesMas)

  • For us and our noble cause Independence is much more valuable than live under oppression ! Unlike the natural born looser and dutch whore ass licker like you we value independence as a true step towards the bright future as FREE PEOPLE

  • How are you independent when you cannot feed your own family?

When you work in a sweat shop from Nike for 20 cents an hour?

Great man woohoo independence i just can't eat or feed my own children on the little money i make.

Not so under the Dutch. You would have had a proper industry with high tech jobs.

You .....WE would have blown Sony and whatever other Japanese companies out of the water.

  • Independence is a noble cause, sure, as it is for West-Papua and the Moluccas, countries you're oppressing, people you're oppressing, people killed, raped, abused, suffering under a de-facto state of Apartheid, how do you justify that?

  • Batavia was the financial capital of the East for centuries ;) that was not build on ignorance or by accident.

And you cannot deny history but why do you act tough? Does it get you anywhere at all?

Besides licking boots for 20 cents an hour? If you are lucky?

  • Amber, man. So many nasty words about the Dutch. Are we feeling frustrated? Let me guess. You had a Dutch girl friend once. Exchange student. Real cuty that dumped you as soon as she had you figured out? Don't worry. You'll get over it.

  • Ye and you british made americans think europe is for pussies

  • dari dulu jakarta udah ruwet yah...

  • Thanks for sharing the video. I lived in the States for almost 50 yrs, both my parents were born in Batavia in the early 1900's

It brings a lot of beautiful childhood memories.

  • to ricardothe1337...it's a big history bro...

without it we don't have any great story for our grandson later...

    keep love us

  • sendainya jakarta kita skrg kaya dulu...ga pnuh dgn org2 munafik yg hidup untuk uang!!!!!!!

  • I'm a Jakarta citizen, now studying in Rotterdam. Watching this video, I'm really amazed by the fact that we actually had tram system at that time. We should've maintained this mode of urban transport, rather than using private cars which only create traffic jam. What a pity..

  • penjajah bangsat........

  • saya setuju!!!

  • Any songs on Youtube from 1920s/1930s/1940s Indonesia?

    Not keroncong, but charleston/jazz/swing?

  • not only indonesia was from us also suriname( most still talk dutch there) and some islands also (curacoa and many many more)

  • Al the colonies the Dutch had are: South Africa, Indonesia, A big part of the State New York, Suriname, Netherlands Antilles, Guyana And some little parts of India.

  • Uhh you forget some. Brazil, Iran, Japan, Ghana, Australia and New Zealand were also Dutch before we sold/trade it

  • Klopt, die was ik inderdaad vergeten.

  • hehe en er is nog meer

  • stukjes namibia angola venezuela canada

  • hoe weet jij dat??? haha

  • Australia New Zealand and South Africa to Britian and Brazil to Portuguese and Japan to themself

  • Malasyia Taiwan en Friesland ook nog

  • Look how CLEAN everything was back then! Now, the canals are choked with garbage and the streets are so crowded and dirty. Still Jakarta is a great city! I agree with the other poster that the city's named should have remained BATAVIA!

  • Still, it's not too bad a name-change... better than Bombay>>>Mumbai or Saigon>>>Ho-Chi-Minh-City

But i agree Batavia sounds nicer.

  • i love this video..

how can i get the copy?

  • Indonesia is the most prettiest country of asia. I love Indonesia. Hope we can forget all the things we did to your country and people.

    Greetings from Netherlands

    Indonesia Raya

  • i agree with you.

every thing in the past has passed away just let it be a history and good lesson for us.

    greetings from Indonesia

  • @Ricardothe1337 Were you in indonesia at the time?

  • 32 taon di bawah administrasi that 'smiling general, bangsa Indonesia ancur mental & moralnyah.

Bukan banyak hilangnya harta Indonesia scr real yg sangat disesalkan tapi ancurnya moral dan mental. Uuups...o o t gak ?

  • "So I suggest we hire a Dutch instead of a Betawi or Javanese man for becoming The Governor of Jakarta in the next election"

Mana ada yg mau?? Sdh terlanjur ancur2an, mana penduduknya gak pedulian lagi. Paling baru mau kalo gajinya min. He he. Adieu Jakarta, selamat tenggelam 2050.

  • Salah tangkep nih. KTP gw sekarang JOGJA!

  • sorry sorry

  • nangis dah liat jakarta skrg

  • rapi bener jakarta dulu ,,ketahuan di jajah aja lbh maju ,,dr pd di jajah sama org indonesia sendiri sedih euy

  • well,Indonesians doesn't care their heritage, especially when they destroyed Harmonie Society building (Societiet Harmonie). The order to destroy came from menteri sekretaris negara during Soeharto era. They shouldn't destroy that building, coz The Harmonie Society was the landmark of Batavia and a trully inspiration for Batavians.

  • Well, actually any landmarks from Dutch colonialism only remind indonesian ppl to the bitterness of the past. I personally don't mind if those buildings teared down if necessary. For me, we should only maintain and learn the way how those dutch ppl manage the city, water, public transportation, state companies, etc.

Speaking of buildings... borobudur, prambanan, or, mendut etc IS the real heritage that Indonesians should be proud of.

  • yap!

  • mooi hoor:)

  • Very nice video. My grandmother used to be there in that time. She was only young but her whole family was there. Her Uncle was the Highest ranking Minister there for the Netherlands. They lived like Kings...until the Japs came and put them in Prison Camps for a few years of course Very sad what happend to some people there.

  • Seems that the Dutch was able to manage n developed Jakarta better than the Indonesian.

Looks in the way the built tram n channel but the Indonesian then destroyed them all. And changed tram into betjak.

So I suggest we hire a Dutch instead of a Betawi or Javanese man for becoming The Governor of Jakarta in the next election.

  • @S4YAPKIR1 I am willing to run ;)

  • @S4YAPKIR1 Did you ever asked your grandpa and grandma what did the tram and channel mean to them at the time? I dropped my tear when I read your commend. Please do ask them.... And PLEASE READ ELEMENTARY SCHOOL HISTORY BOOK...

  • @faisalelvas Well I guess you've never been into elementary school because it isn't written in any Indonesian historical manual books for schools. What I read on the school's historical books were only how Suharto fight the communist, how the armies brialiantly fight for this country. NOTHING ABOUT IT. And yes that is my fav topic in my family, even my grandpa make a joke of GARUDA = Great ARrangement Under Dutch Administration. :D

  • Beautiful! A world frozen in time.

  • Does anybody know, whether these footages are available for purchase, maybe in the form of dvd's?

  • Doubt it..it seems our historian can't even revised our indonesian history books..yet alone Dvd's. (Super semar, g30s, pki..etc)

  • This movie comes from the Indisch Filmarchief / Netherlands Indies Movie Archives, they have thousands of movies made in the Dutch Indies, they also have a website

  • This item is part of the collection: Prelinger Archives by Deane Dickason (An American)

  • "part of the collection", yes, owned no.

this footage is owned by the Kingdom of the Netherlands, by which the Indisch Filmarchief has been founded.

This film has been shot in 1938 by mr. J. Zindler, dutch-german inhabitant.

For all people interested, this footage can be ordered on dvd (not dvdr).

  • Thank you for the correction.

  • No problem, but honestly, I need to correct myself: J.H. Zindler has shot this film, and was later edited by Deane Dickason. The film was then released under the title "The coveted Indies".

Good quality film of Indonesia/Netherlands-Indies can be ordered on dvd from various dutch websites. Two years ago a 3 dvd box has been released with other reels from the same film as shown here. The quality is a lot better I must say. Other old film about Indonesia can be found as torrent-files :-)
