  • NICE...but...this is a 2nd place matter...ZTA rocked it...be the GRACIOUS ladies ur and accept it.

  • this was nice but how can you say zeta doesn't have right techniques and all.

zeta went hard- white or black. my 2 cents...

  • affirmative action is bitch isn't it

  • my favorite part was the last part, that was tiiight

  • If the judges really payed attention to the art of stepping and not just judging by the audience reaction, they wld see that the AKA should have won 1st place....PERIOD. ANd honestly a few other groups were better and more creative than ZTA...DST's Sigma chapter killed thier perfomance and should have ranked higher than ZTA as did the Alpha Phi Chapter of APhiA...creativty, precision, originality, and relation to the theme should have been the criteria and all the groups I mentioned had that.

  • BOWIE HS - SiSTAH S0ULJAHS ST3P T3AM . . .STATE CHAMPIONS. . .soon to be national champs check us out we are pretty good you can also watch our hype show to the girls have the pink and the boys have the white suits

  • Hell no Trenz73 these women r hella bomb" shoot shown up" but yea ZTA did a better job =)

  • Ok at least this group is good because the other teams were wack! The white girls still rocked and were a little more solid than this group and DESERVED to win!! These AKAs here look very pretty though and are extremely precise and solid.

  • Precision, creativity, energy, crowd participation & PASSION throughout the entire show! Sorors I have to give it to you on this one. I dont see shows like this coming from us often. I can tell you all practiced hard, y' all have shown alot of ppl (especially D9) that AKA's can step hard and still be "prissy"! Congrats to ZTA as well y'all put on a good show too!

  • ll cool j called....he wants his outfits and music back from his 1993 music video.

  • this shit was ass they were no where near as good as them white bitches get the fuck outta here wit that co champ bullshit

  • Yeah, doing all those splits, acrobatic tumbling shit they're doing was ass, no where as good as the booty shaking the white bitches here were doing! lol so stupid.

  • Loved It

  • Go head CAU!

  • they are just dancing....wheres the technical stuff? zta did that and more.

  • @VanessaMaeFan18 What are you watching because they are stepping mostly, i dont know where you see just dancing. ZTA's did ok but not as good as this.

  • I see they learned a few moves after watching the ZTA's kick ass last year, but still no where as good as the ZTA's.

  • Comment removed

  • These sisters are FLYYYYYYY!!!

  • For anyone that has ever stepped in competition....."we" know the technical moves these AKA's demonstrate not only show creativity but SKILL!

  • 1993 called. they want their dance moves, outfits and music back.

  • omg!!!!!!!!!!!!! i loved it

  • @Trenz73

This vid is a an extreme angle. Check out the vid response for a full view

  • @Trenz73 it sucks that the aka's taught them that routine and zta won.

  • @Trenz73

    +1 Truth

  • @Trenz73 I do not agree. ZTA was more entertaining because they were a mostly white team doing a black thing. Sorry, it that appeals to you. AKA had no errors, ZTA did , AKA did not steal from other teams, ZTA did. AKA abided by the rules, ZTA did not.

  • @Trenz73 AKA taught ZTA how to step, ZTA did not. AKA invited ZTA to step with blacks, ZTA did not. ZTA used an AKA table step, AKA did not use an ZTA step. It is not that AKA was Co- champs with ZTA, really ZTA was Co-champs with AKA, you got it twisted but that does mean that the rest of the world does.

  • THEY JUST GOT OFF! KNOW DAT!

  • What's the song called 5:01 ?

  • I had a chance 2 see these young Sorors of mine step @ our regional conf & couldn't be more proud of them. Their showmanship, creativity, & commitment 2 putting on a great show is to be commended (sp?). It also warms my heart 2 know that the scholarship $ won by the team will be put 2 good use. skeeeeeeeee-weeeeeeeee! Sorors!

  • PEARLfection as always!!!

  • this was hot i love the hair tossing

  • Great Job sorors!! Skeeeeee~Weeeeeee!

  • the white crew killed and mashup all t bloodclitt compet

    ition

  • those zeta tau alpha girls were alright but these AKA's killed it big time, also they fine as hell, lol

  • these girls KILT it! THEY WON....who were the judges...i watched both teams and these girls STEPPED! the zta(winners?) were sloppy...i believe the judges based their scores on the crowd response...and the crowd responded to the zta's simply because they were white girls with a little bit of rhythm...

  • They KILLED this

  • Poor AkA's you really won!! Those basic steps those white girls were doing... They need some real judges next year

  • I see people can't handel the truth.

  • They did Step...and very well I must add.

  • No zta's. Was more complex. They kept stoping and pretending to talk on the phone WTF? That is not stepping! Doing the spits is not stepping! Trying the be the rockettes is not stepping! Hopefully they get rid of all the BS and step.

  • @KREKRE122 the phone thing went along with their them. there show, showed not only talent and skill but creativity as well. they were presice, and flawless. they stepped and had flavor too,. so what they did one spilt and 2 jumps, it worked. even during the split and 2 jumps, the ladies who werent doing it were stepping.

NEW TOPIC:See the first vid response for the best AKA Sprite Atlanta video... (My vid was shot at an extremely sharp angle)..thx

  • **********EVERYONE***********

PLEASE GO TO THE FIRST VIDEO RESPONSE for the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sprite Stepoff in Atlanta. My video doesn't do it justice...thx

  • Comment removed

  • tHEY WERE BETTER THAN THE ZETA'S THEY SHOULD HAVE WON I HAVE NEVA SEEN AKA'S STEP THIS GOOD

  • no. zta was more complex than aka...

  • They really weren't if you look it up they took the part where the girl steps on the table top while here sorors hold it up over there head from the AKA's. That was the only thing that really stood out about their performance. In this clip this is the best I've seen AKA's perform they were cute and intricate.

  • Please do you really think the ztas could have done the AKA show better than the Akas? The zta show was basic I could have taught it to 5th graders

  • @Erenehow Lol I agree.. AKA's did very good! & ZTA was VERY simple!

  • How many times has ZTA stepped when there was no money involved? How long has stepping been a part of the organization's history? Will they step in the future? 1

  • This was an excellent show! I give the AKAs the two thumbs up. After watching the two performances the AKAs with stepping and tricks should have won.

  • Really though as long as the competition continues with all contestants that perform will enough to make it, including non-black/african-american, and Sprite keeps giving out those checks. Nothing about stepping speaks to the intellect of the contestants so it really just sport. I am a little disappointed at the way some of us, people of color, are attacking the Zeta Tau Alpha team though, it does not speak well of us.

  • Comment removed

  • I just watched the 2 contestants, I went in with an open mind because in the essence of fairness I feel if Zeta Tau Alpha had a better performance then they should have won, but unfortunately while it was good, I did not see as much creativity in the moves or difficulty level. I am not a judge but I know when a team brings it & the K's brought it.

  • Comment removed

  • @Mrknasty09 then something is wrong with your eyes cause ZTA was awesome. I didnt really like AKA.

  • While so many of us are accusing Zeta Tau Alpha of stealing stepping from black people, please check history first. African American inter-collegiate fraternities and sororities were modeled, in concept, after white fraternities and sororities. Even Sigma Pi Phi Fraternity was modeled, in concept, after Skull and Bones. Lets not allow the pot to call the kettle black!

  • So ancient Greek culture and America were both modeled off of ancient Africans (Egyptians), so what is your point Muhammad1906? Doesn't take away from the fact that the steps ZTA used were old black Greek steps. AKA was just best this time, not saying I hated ZTAs performace, but AKAs had for this show, try harder ZTA.

  • So ancient Greek culture and America were both modeled off of ancient Africans (Egyptians), so what is your point Muhammad1906? Doesn't take away from the fact that the steps were stolen. AKA was just best this time, do not say I hate ZTAs performace, but AKAs had for this show.

  • You mean: Lets now allow the Black to call the kettle a pot!

  • this is great.

  • If the goal is for all races to be equal, there is no longer any room for "Minority Only" events. How can we tear down the racial divide when people from BOTH sides constantly defend their racial barriers? It is RACISM whether done by whites or blacks.

"White people shouldn't be steppin!" "Black people shouldn't be playing golf!" Having a Black Chamber of Commerce & Whites Only water fountains are the SAME.

Trying to eliminate racism & then upholding racist barriers make you a HYPOCRITE.

  • Looks like the idiots at Sprite stirred up a hornets nest of bad feelings with there clumsy attempt to change the outcome of the contest. Imagine if the NFL said they reviewed the Superbowl tapes and because someone missed a call both teams would share the trophy. What a stupid move by Sprite.

  • @DaMav

Happy to hear you say that..Im not giving an opinion about the ladies or anything.. Just refreshing to hear Sprite being held responsible too.. They shouldve done it correct the first time..

  • The truly stupid move by Sprite was not being upfront about how the scores were tabulated. They should have just shown the proof of the scoring and let it be scrutinized. That would have been a real resolution. Instead, it seems to me that they played it this way because they didn't want the scrutiny. Wonder why that would be...

  • @cannellasays

cowards? idk let us fight amongst ourselves to keep the focus away fm them? I'm not sure

  • yeah, we see how well that is working as a distraction to keep us from demanding real accountability. gotta love how the corporations play the game so they don't have to really answer for anything.

  • NEWT TOPIC@cannellasays (cuz I can't post on my profile. I can only reply)

The best AKA Sprite Atlanta vid on YouTube is by dawnthorpe1. Did you see it? If you type "AKA Sprite" into the search box..It's the 3rd video down.

I just emailed the person to do a vid responce so they can get more views.

The last 45 sec is my fav..lil mama in the front is killin it..

  • That was an awesome performance and that dawnthorpe1's vid is great. I have added it to my favorites.

I'll say this, I think that AKA had it. They had the better formations, syncopation, coordination, any other -ations and a performance that was theirs. I watched this performance amazed by the difficulty of it and the agility of these ladies. IMHO, ZTA did not measure up and their performance was a copy and paste of past step performances I've seen. I wondered why everyone was hollering.

  • To be honest, I had to watch the ZTA performance in 4 parts with minute breaks in between in order to get through watching that video at all. Meanwhile, I watched the AKA performance straight through. It inspired me to go back to the gym and get my muscle tone back.

I like the fact that ZTA tried but their performance should not have even ranked and they broke one of the comp rules and an unspoken step rule. I also don't think they'll be back for another 2-3 years. It took them that....

  • long to pull together their performance for this competition and they need time to study more video from other step teams. I hope next time they incorporate their own flavor. I think then I would enjoy their routine at least a little more.

  • @cannellasays pt 2

HonestIy, i liked both teams alot..That's why I uploaded them both. It wasn't b/c of a controversy cuz at the time, I didn't know one existed.

(Id left the show early and had no idea about the booing or even who had won until I started getting comments on the vids. I didn't even know the stepshow was a MTV show till I got there..lol I just thought it was gonna be cool.. and it was..

  • @cannellasays pt 3

I hope they do another one next year..That'll separate the men fm the boys..but if they do do it next year, I think the AKAs would show no mercy..and make the gap between 1st and 2nd place a MILE

  • @cannellasays pt 1

AKA was tight..and no mistakes (that my notanexpertonstepping eyes can give). I take it that you used to step

Funny thing about all these Sprite stepshow vids on YouTube (Atlanta event), ALL of us who took footage were sneaking cuz they were very strict about "No Cameras". There was a lady walkiing down the aisles snapping at us. She was mean. They lightened up near the end of the show cuz it started getting wild.

  • "... they broke one of the comp rules and an unspoken step rule..."

...could you spell it out for us?? what was the comp rule and the unspoken step rule?!?!

  • @cherryspit I'm no longer responding to this video...my last post was months ago regarding this and I just don't care to reiterate what I've stated here or on other videos regarding this thing. sorry, but for me this temporary insanity is over.

  • u won't good enough......get over it. It's not a black or white thing. It's who is better.

  • These girls look white to me. And they stole Janet Jackson's moves!

  • Damn the AKA's represented IU well... DAMN!!! damn they fine

  • It's funny (sad), you can tell who the politically correct "whites" are here, and of course you can tell who the BlAcKs are. Those PC whites, be proud of what you have done and will have accomplished in just a few generations, the dissolution of your own culture. Now thats PC at work for ya!

  • whats sad is ignorance !

  • Comment removed

  • You white folks are a trip How many step videos been on YouTube before this Sprite mess? How many have you EVER looked at. Did you care about stepping 10, 5 3, 2, or even 1 year ago? All of a sudden you wanna "share cultures". No You want money Thats all you ever have and will care about. If no white girls in this competition Would U care? Nooooooooo. If no money would u care? Nooioooooooo

  • @que1600

    you're the exeception ma'am but I wish you weren't

but folks like you are ok

  • @que1600

but the new white folks who are commenting all over these videos about wanting to share. Are they now looking at lots of other step vids besides Sprite? How about Howards stepshows or even other University of Arkansas stepshows that don't feature ZTA. Will they still be interested in stepping a year from now? What do you honesty think maam

  • Honestly, I feel many people are jumping on this band wagon, . ( all races included) and in a year they will have moved on to something else. I think this is a great forum for people to educate people on the history of Step. Instead people are pointing fingers and name calling. Its unfortunate.

Now , the good news, next year the people need to bring it because ZTA was hungry and it showed in their performance, I do not believe they are more talented than AKA's they just wanted it more.

  • @ghettoponiggalips

"If no white girls... Would U care? "

If no white girls were in the competition, then the action by Coke wouldn't have been racially suspect.

". If no money would u care? No"

I say most would, since it's an issue of fairness. Think of Ruben Studdard. He won by half a percent of the votes over Clay AIken to be the first black contestant to win up to that point. AIken was the favorite. Had Idol made them share it, what do you think would have happened?

  • @ghettoponiggalips lol once white folks find something they like they're all for "Sharing cultures".

  • I mean ....these girls, white, black, asian whatever the fuck they are..... .could not just win and just win cud they...????

    WHEN WILL THIS SHIT END!!!!

  • Having Eminem do good rap will not take away anything from it. It will still be an African american culture. having Tiger Woods dominate golf also does not take anything fro the sport. In fact it made it better and more competitive and popular.

Are you saying we should not let Tiger steal our culture by playing the sport he loves and is great at???

  • I love Black women and you all are the bomb!!! But the white girls got y'all this time.

  • im curious, how many of you mad because the white girls won this listen 2 robin thicke and eminem, because they are clearly doing "our" thang, but nobody hatin on them

  • Oh yea 10 stars and I love black women

  • how did this step show turn black vs white AND black men vs black women. Stupid niggas house niggas no more real brothas lovin black women

    punk ass bitches

    Black women respond only

  • @ghettoponiggalips

I saw 2 videos, one response to this by black men and all they talk about is how black wome got what they deserved cause of their attitude and that sistas are the main ones complainin When I saw the booin video there was ALOT of black men booing not just black women

I want only black women respon to me cuz brothas are on somethin else

  • what i noticed about alot of the black men on the ZTA video comments is that when racists were calling black women all these kinds of racial names and black folks in general all kinds of nasty stuff, they didn't say a thing. I understand ignoring people but if I see someone attacking my fellow black people, regardless of whether or not we agree with each other about an issue, I've got their back. I was disappointed when I saw a lot of black men who just ignored that like it was okay.

  • @cannellasays

That hurts my heart and makes me so angry at these black men whio don't have our womens back They should be ashamed Our ancesters would be ashamed at how black men have alienated our sistas Makes me so mad Aahhhhhhhh I love my black women before ALL We need the soldiers of the 60s back I love black women!!!!

  • @ghettoponiggalips

What we need is for ALL black people male and females to fight against racism like it was done by our ancesters. Martin Luther King died fighting for equality for ALL and not just blacks. He fought for us to be able to do and participate in everything as EQUALS.

  • @bignastypsi

I thought the Zetas did great and I left them a cool comment when Sprite was over I thought AKA did great and I stopped watching these videos Then I see all these attack on my women my sistas who I live and most black men are doin it WTF is wrong maaan what is wrong

  • @ghettoponiggalips

I can't speak for any other black man but myself. I'm not singling out black women, I single out racism. I argued with a black male on the ZTA vid not to long ago. I don't care about race or gender. I care about equality period. If I am attacking a black women it is because of her comments and not because she is a black women. The only thing we should be arguing about is the performance and not the color or organization. And again I can only speak for myself..

  • @cannellasays

don't let my name fool you I just call myself this as "in yo face" to folks

  • Comment removed

  • I think my post is back up?

  • @que1600 you may want to post again because someone marked your post as spam.

  • Comment removed

  • i think u all were alright but u had nothing on the winners.....u preformed like u were just stepping at a frat party flipping ur hair showing off ur beauty.....that's not what a comp is about it's about skill and discipline, and u lacked a lot of it....it's good to see change....

  • Scoring discrepancy = affirmative action.

  • The AKA's were very good but the ZTA's had a better overall performance. They simply ripped the spot, plain and simple.

  • I am an HBCU grad and have no problem with the all white soro winning this thing. If you got skills you got skills. Eminem can flow so we accept him as well. All I say is white bank owners and loan officers give us and our moms and dads bank loans. Make more black movies hollywood; and give black artist their stolen music publishing.

  • I'm an HBCU graduated myself and I also don't have a problem with an all White group either male/female winning a B.G.L.O. event. However you're really comparing apples to oranges. It's 2010 we don't depend on the kindness of others anymore. It's not the 1950's. For the record there are plenty of Black professionals who don't need any help from anybody. Don't get me wrong the ZTAs were good. But in my opinion the AKAs were better. I do think some corporate interference were involved.

  • Imitation is the best form of flattery. Zeta got help from a black male cheerleader according to "Washington Watch" on Bet. However, we must always maintain this art form from the African American community.

  • Just as Paul Mooney titled book "Black is the New White" says. This performance by a white sorority KO the black sorority.

  • Let's not go back to slavery!! You obviously don't understand black history in America and your role in it. It's not your fault but you are benefiting from it. When I said we must always maintain this art form as from the African-American community, it was a statement for maintaining our cultural identities; lest it be stolen from us like so many other things. I have no real problem with the ZETAS winning this award if they and other credit this art form as African-American.

  • Having studied both ballet and jazz growing up, and now performing as a bellydancer as an adult, i have to say the Zeta girls put on a more comprehensive and cohesive performance than AKA. Costuming counts in a performance, especially a competition, and Zeta had that too. Plus they danced for a full extra minute, which may not seem like a lot to non-dancers, but it is!

  • What does ballet and jazz have anything with you NOT knowing a thing about STEPPING?!! They are NOT the same and as I stated earlier, STEPPING for 9-10 mins straight don't mean shit, it is NOT an endurance race or double dutch contest. I'm not understanding why a bunch of people all of sudden have "knowledge" about the ARTFORM of stepping by watching 1-2 performances. ZTA's routine was simple and BORROWED, and their theme was IMPLIED by their outfits, NOT by actually incorporating one. THE END

  • RULE NUMBER ONE IN STEPPING IS DO NOT USE ANOTHER ORGS FORTES, MONIKERS, CHANTS, SONGS, AND STEPS in your routine!!

Have you ever seen or heard the Sigmas hopping and saying Roo to the bruhs like the Omegas?

Have you ever seen or heard the Deltas chant "It's a serious matter" or hold up hand mirrors like the AKAs?

Have you ever seen or heard the Kappas saying ICE COLD, A-PHI, APE like the Alphas?

No?!! Yeah, there's a reason why...

    RESPECT

and you can't receive it if you don't give it!

  • @bisonhoney22 When exactly did they use an organizations call or known chant in their routine? I'm being serious because I may have missed it. And are you saying that other organizations have never done tributes in their step show to other organizations? I have seen that done on multiple occasions.

  • DUDE, there is a DIFFERENCE between doing a TRIBUTE step to an org...AN USING THAT ORG'S step WITHOUT acknowledging them at all. At Howard Homecoming, the fraternities ALWAYS do a tribute to all the D9 sororities, and the sororities do a tribute to all the D9 fraternities, that's just how it is at my alma mater, consider the fact that 5 of the 9 D9 orgs were FOUNDED at Howard University.

  • @bisonhoney22 But earlier you said that the first rule was to not use someone else's steps. I'm responding based on your answers. I try not to assume what someone is saying when responding to a post. And again they didn't just take them and run with it. Like you said earlier they were taught this routine by AKA's.

  • Also you supported your argument with a list of chant type examples, which is why I responded the way I did.

  • (cont.)

So no I don't see the hype behind ZTA "winning" ESPECIALLY when they got help from an AKA chapter and they had the nerve to use steps that are sacred to different D9 orgs, & NOTE that there's a difference between basic steps for routine foundation, and org steps (Alpha's A-train, Kappa's canes, etc.). IF, they actually came original without help from a "cheerleader", an AKA from U of Arkansas, or "choreographer", and created a NEW, not 2 year old, routine, I'll give DUE props.

  • @bisonhoney22 I'll give you the A-train argument, but not the second part of your statement. Like I said earlier many orgs have people come in and teach them steps. They took what they were TAUGHT (they didn't just decide to usel it) and performed it. You can be upset at the girls for teaching it to them, but to not give them props is wrong.

  • That's A LIE, I've YET to hear about a D9 sorority or fraternity bringing somebody IN to teach them a step show routine, many of those stepmasters will TELL you how long they stayed up to find a theme and CREATE a show, & every D9 org that brings in a line with have what... A STEPMASTER. No, I WILL NOT give props when people downing the AKAs, "claiming" that their routine is OLD but fail to acknowledge that ZTA's routine is 2 years OLD and BOTH teams used THEMES that were already done.

  • @bisonhoney22 I never downed the AKA routine. I stated the Janet Jackson theme has most likely been used. What part is a lie? Are you saying that every step done by each chapter of a D9 is 100 percent original? What about the Sigma nutcracker? Alpha Train? Yes they will make up shows but they are NOT all 100 percent original.

  • and the Matrix routine hasn't been done a thousand times already?

    I'll wait....

And you ACKNOWLEDGED some of the D9 orgs in your example have SIGNATURE steps. Yes, you're right that it won't be 100% original..and for a reason.

It's one thing for, let's say, an Alpha Phi Alpha chapter to use the same variation step of ANOTHER Alpha Phi Alpha chapter because they are WHAT? A CHAPTER OF THE SAME FRAT.

NOW, will you see an Alpha step team using the Sigma's step?

    I'll wait... LOL

  • @bisonhoney22 It most certainly has been used. I brought up the Janet Jackson line to contradict your view on originality. Like I have been saying all along nothing is 100 percent original.

You just changed your comment. I agree with what you just posted, but earlier that wasn't what you said. you said that no one was being brought in to teach them something, which I didn't agree with.

as for you last questions In tributes yes.

  • Most of us that are on here debating about ORIGINALITY are talking about the STEP ROUTINE, not THEMES being original. I didn't change my comment, my opinion is still the same...

How many fraternities and sororities in the D9 do YOU know that brings in someone outside of their org, to teach and help them create a step routine? ZTA DID have help from OUTSIDE of their org, MY POINT.

And D9 frats DO NOT do tributes to each other!! They'll ACKNOWLEDGE them in a PROBATE setting, NOT STEP SHOWS.
