The movie isn't as sad as people make it out to be. Basic plot: Guy gets hung up on girl and lets it affect aspects of his life and then he eventually says "fuck that bitch." And all the while the girl is leading a good, happy and wonderful life.
It is a good movie but now that I think about it, the guy is a chode. Who the hell gets hung up on a girl for nearly almost a decade?
I expected af sad movie/anime and it was, but not on a stage where i used tissues and such.. It was a beautiful thing, but yet tragic..but i didnt get attached to the charactere (except for the girl in part 2)..:)
I don't know if I should watch this movie, because reading everyone's comments, if I watch it, I'll probably suffer PAD (Post Anime Depression, made it up on the spot. :3).
the ending of 5cm/sec friggin sucks, i mean its a great artistic piece and it's probably a more meaningful ending than a sappy reunion, but it still made me feel miserable...
@KVCunknown The first time I saw the ending I thought the same thing, but then I realized it's better this way. Instead of getting back together they learned how to just move on with their lives.
@Mike0Powell agreed, its kind of like a greek tragedy in that way, the ending you want isn't necessarily the most meaningful one. I think i felt terrible about it because it portrayed their lives as being worse without each other in part 3...
the start I've learnt on the keyboard.. sometimes I sneak into my school's music room when no one's around and play it in the gorgeous sunny silence.. magical!
@AugustusLongeye listen to the song huin no miko kikyo. It's seriously emotional and it uses the flute and violin. You'd really be missing out if you didn't at least give it a chance. It's from inuyasha.
@gothicphey I fee what you mean, they do work very well together and the composer was very talented. I still stand by my statement though, that the piano has the greatest range as a single instrument. A violin or flute can have exactly the same effect but it is much harder to achieve the range on their own. My opinion anyway. Thanks for the song direct though!
holy shit i love your channel i come across so many great animes.... im putting this 1 on the NEXT 1. hell i may even start this movie in the middle of this 1 anime im watching
I can't even remember exactly how I came across this movie, but Tenmon has been a huge influence on my writing ever since. Makoto Shinkai creates unforgettable films, while Tenmon makes unforgettable music.
Voices of a Distant Star was a good one but I kind of wished I knew what happened after the "ending" you could assume but yeah not really the same... I don't think I gave out a spoiler, if I did its not a big one at least I don't think it is.
@assassain7 It's definitely a very sad movie. But you should check out the autor's other works like "Voices of a Distant Star" and "The Place Promised in Our Early Days". They will make you cry for sure.
This Movie is just so Awesome :))

you can get just as much emotional range with a violin as you can a piano you just have to be good enough to make it sound good
