You have to grind up the gunpowder with a ball mill or a mortar and pestel(a pepper grinder just isn't enough), compress it in the barrel with a stick(push really hard) and put some ammo(a paper ball will do just fine, but if you want, put a tiny metal ball(BB's are too large).
