Hetfield and Hammett both contributed - uncredited due to music company legal bullshit - Metallica recommended both Samhain (very shortly after known as DANZIG) and Slayer to Rick Rubin
You know, subconsciously, I ALWAYS knew James was singing backup on a couple of these songs. And when I read somewhere that he sang uncredited on Danzig 1, I was like, "Oh yeah I thought so!"
I don't understand why people are arguing about this! It's been a WELL know fact that James Hetfeild sang on this......fuck it's been 20 years! And I love the comment about " I once saw a picture of James with a Samhain shirt". If you look at photos of Metallica in the 80s' all they fuckin wore was Samhain and Misfits shirts!
@Richydudeman Nah man, i know James voice very well, and on top of that, James is a really big fan of Danzig. By him singing on this, it wouldnt make him a fan anymore but a part of this. I wish people could understand that metallica never workds on records for other bands. Thats part of the reason why jason got kicked out of metallica. He began working with his other band echobrain.James did not like that and said that their only music is and will always be metallica.Because of that jason left
@23weston Its true man.James has no business nor time to be recording with Danzig. Now if James really made a recording with Danzig, dont you think that information would be all over and interviews with james and danzig together. James would talk about that shit forever if it would of really happened; cuz he respects danzig. Now if james would really be in a recording..he would have to of sung at least half of the song. Just singing a little part would be useless and a waste of a musicians time.
@thenamelesscrow I know they played together, like i said dont u think Hetfield would of at least talked about recording with Danzig in a interview?? Danzig is one of his biggest inspirations, Hetfield would never think about it as a whatever and not talk about it, im sure he would be telling the whole world cause James loves Danzig...Metallica is my most favorite band and i know his voice really well and i know for a fact his voice is not on here.
@violavpeace taken from wikipedia: Hetfield sang "Stone Cold Crazy" at the Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert, accompanied by the remaining members of Queen and Tony Iommi on rhythm guitar.
He provided backing vocals on "Man or Ash" on the Corrosion of Conformity album Wiseblood.
He sang backing vocals on "Twist of Cain" and "Possession" on Danzig's debut album, Danzig.
He played guitar on "Eclectic Electric" from the Primus album Antipop.
@jens30001 I know james' voice very darn well. And like i said...if he really sung this...there should be interviews, shows with him singing this song etc. Also if he really sung in a song here...itd be stupid to only have him sing a verse. Now if he really actually did sing..James would be telling the whole world and same with danzig.
@violavpeace I too know james's voice very well as Metallica used to be my favorite band and I have listened to them enough to recognize his voice when I hear it, especially durring this time period, and your argument that there were no interviews talking about it or anything of the sort (that we know of) is not enough because although it doesn't make sense that there wouldn't be, that is still undoubtedly James Hetfields voice.
@jens30001 How does the fact that there are no interviews make no sense to you? Just cause "you" think his voice is there and the video says it dont mean it is. There has to be videos, considering the fact that james loves danzig. It wouldnt make sense for him to not tell the world, if danzig is one of the people he looks up to and is on of his major influences.
@violavpeace there are plenty of instances where hetfield cites danzig as an influence. read the liner notes for garage inc. he says"glenn danzig was a major influence on me becoming a real singer. oh and its common knowledge that james sang on this
@violavpeace yeah,i realised id replied to the wrong person right before i hit send and figured youd inevitably correct me. so now we've cleared that up. after i type all that i dont feel like wasting it
I've also heard that Diamanda Galas provided some courtesy backup vocals on this album. You can hear her in the background of this song saying "Incubus" and/or "Succubus". Also, listen for her on the song"Soul on Fire". I've never heard of Hetfield providing vocals on this album, but I don't think anyone can say for sure since no guest vocalists are listed in the album credits.
James actually said in one of his interviews that he sang on the first Danzig record.. It was some interview that was with Vanessa Warwick on Headbanger's Ball... I think they didn't mention it before because of record-company bullshit.. This sounds really like Hetfield in his Master Of Puppets phase
Even a deaf man can hear James Hetfield singing backups on Possession.
Hetfield also sings backups on Twist of Cain on the same album.
Both Glenn Danzig's bands Misfits and Samhain greatly influenced Hetfield and Metallica. In fact Hetfield was arrested one night out side a Samhain show.
No leaf clover,Human, I like the one that says; "Seeing othe light at the end of the tunnel" but didn't list among my tracks for the same reason as BLACK which are VG and bring them to a whole new level of Kick Ass! with the orquestra out of Saint Anger I like SHOOT ME AGAIN and ST ANGER, THE THE UNNAMED FEELING, EXCTASY OF GOLD The album I consider a failiure
I think Hetfield sings on one other track too, maybe "Twist of Cain" or "Am I Demon" I forget. I'd have to pull out the record and listen to it again. Great stuff though, I saw Danzig live this week and it was the BEST live show I'd ever seen. Glenn is so fuckin' intense and passionate live. Even at age 53 I think he blows everyone away. Sounded great too. I'd recommend it to anyone.
According to Wikipedia:
He sang backing vocals on "Twist of Cain" and "Possession" on Danzig's debut album, Danzig.
