  • like del shannon got his songs on cd

  • Hats off to Larry was recorded in the late spring of 1961.

  • I love this song but I just realized that if he had done the keyboard break in The Venture's/ Dick Dale surf style it would have been incredible! The rest of the song would have totally taken off into a huge climax! I do think he was one of the great geniuses of the 60's, like Roy Orbison and Gene Pitney. Maybe he didn't move around enough... anyone know why he committed suicide?

  • awsome song

  • wow thanks he really got inot the human of us. Loved you Del what a voice, what an aritst.

  • Wish Del was still with us.

  • my father hung around with del shannon the song "hats off to larry" was orignally "hats off to gary" del shannon changed it from "gary" to "larry" for my father

  • what a great singer ! boof

  • real slick tune

  • i love del shannon and my name is carol shannon

  • @momcarol1000 ...Now thats Cool...really...Del rocked big time ...i was there...Great'''

  • I work with a guitar player that used to work with Del Shannon. He has nothing shot of the ultimate respect for him as a musician ,a band leader, a writer and a Man. And a gig never goes by where he does not pay tribute to the genius and perhaps his mentor ,Mr. Dell Shannon. May he rest in peace.

  • Michigan's own. R.I.P. Del- loved your music!!!

  • My husband, Larry, loves this song! lol

  • Thank you for posting the amazing Del Shannon!

    Debby in New York

  • Some of us remember this back in 1960. I had an LP of all his greatest hits. This was our favorite.hat's off to Terry..

  • This song and Runaway have almost identical arrangements, with the clavioline coming in for a solo break and then continuing for the rest of the song. I actually prefer this to Runaway.

  • I still haven't forgotten the day I heard he had died by his own hand. I've never heard anyone since who compared..

  • R.I.P. Del this is rap artist Eazy O.I grew up in the 80s , and listen to Del Shannon on cbs fm 101 out of NY.runaway , + hats of to larry = great music .We got love 4 u Del.Your missed...

  • @mtcats sup Easy O

  • The Gimmes!

  • 39 years old i am ...love it ...!

  • eaaaaaaaaaaa

  • I found this song by listening to my dad's old cassettes and making fun of them with my friends. When we found this though we loved it.

  • flip side of runaway.

  • Jody was the flip side of Runaway (in the UK anyway) - Hats off to Larry was the next release..

  • Hehe, this sounds as a not so good version of Runaway. Does someone have some facts about the history behind this song?

  • Found this song as a result of the Me First and the Gimme Gimmes cover, I see what they saw in it, what a tune and what a voice

  • This is areal great song from a great singer! Del is one of a-kind. Very good voice and his great songs! Thanks DEL. (DAB)

  • bet he was hung like a horse too

  • i myt onli be young but i fucking love this song

  • love this song! :P

  • Great tune!

  • I remember listening to this on an old transistor radio while in a small motor boat at our cottage in Quebec...seems like yesterday.

  • heheh that reminds me of listening to abba's dancing queen full volume on one of those little pocket transitor radios and being like 7 years old.

i love this song and still love and listen to dancing queen loud.

  • i remember listening to runaway on a transistor radio—funny how those memories stick with you.

  • coool!

  • del shannon was a genius, and sadly underrated!

  • @pedders78 genius he was so good

  • check out "that runaway man"written by del's friend tom lazaros the day after he died

  • The first record I ever purchased...

  • He was so popular here in Australia. He toured here, and "checked out" not long after returning to USA. What a loss.

  • great voice, great song. I'm 17 but i grew up on this kind of music, my family were in rock n roll bands and i've loved this stuff ever since.

  • yes me too ,my mum and dad were into 60s music and it just sticks with you

  • Wow, he sounds great live. Very impressive.

  • Great Singer I song Little Runaway in a SchoolPerformance the all thougt iwas good ;)

    RIP Del

  • I loved Del. Never saw him before. Gdlkn boy, style and stage presence in between John Mellencamp and Bruce Springsteen.

  • To me Del Shannon was brilliant - encapcillating the sound of the early sixties just before the Beatles hit the scene. His songs sound as fresh today as they did then.

  • Amen to that. He was my inspiration

  • Del is wonderful. Youtube search DISCO 45 and VIVA EL ROCK AND ROLL (Manuel Vargas) and you will see an honoring to this one and others singers and songs of these years.

  • Thank God for charlie westover---------aka Del shannon, he is a Michigan man, he's the best!!

  • Del Shannon is near the top of the tower of songs. Great, just great

  • I played with Del when he was touring Wisconsin.

We played at a club in Polar Wisconsin.

He was soooo much fun. We partied after the gig. He bought all the beer. Then Del and Ron Rathman our friend/manager went into the bathroom and smoked some weed. I was with a band called "The Intended".

I think it was 1967. We had a strobe light and we partied in the motel.

I was with a girl called Anne Tileman, I will never forget. I wonder where she is, Anne are you there?

  • Dell Shannon helped me grow with appreciation for music show as his. God Bless the two you you. Do you know any history of his songs - particularly "Little Town Flirt", which I played until the grooves wore down, and to this day, I've NEVER heard an organ like the one his band used!

  • I saw Del shortly before he killed himself. Performed in G.R.,MI near his Coopersville, MI home. Little Town Flirt written about a girl Del knew in Allendale, MI. She hung out in bar where he did. Del told story at revival (Del/Leslie Gore/Freddie Cannon/Bobby Lewis/Crystals/Lou Christie)that night. The Beatles were his opening act in the early 60's when he toured Europe. Del was number one vocalist in 60's. He was great the night I saw him and forever. We still celebrate Del here in West MI!

  • just great

  • I miss you so much Del I want to join you in heaven so badly right now!!

  • I love Del,I couldn't believe when I heard he took his life many years back.

  • Always loved this song!

  • This song was a hit in Chile (1961). Search Youtube DISCO 45 (Manuel Vargas) and you will see an honoring to beautiful songs of these years.

  • wow! killer version. Del was always on. Great writer, great rhythm guitarist a real Big Talent. Anybody out there know where this clip is from and what year and who backed him on this? It looks like a late 70's thing from maybe England. Any Help?

  • Love this song.

  • this reminds me of when i used to listen to mum and dads records collection im 38 now love you del..

  • My uncle used to play this and other shannon songs when I was a kid. I'm 41 now and hearing itbrings back great memories from that time in the early seventies

  • i love this record it reminds me of when i used to play my mum and dads record collection when i was a kid ....brilliant

  • I saw Del in London (On tour with the Four Seasons). What a great show and great memories. This song was his best.

  • A great love song

  • one thing were all sure of in life is death. i was brought up listening to del shannon and im only 28 now. what a waste.LIVE LIFE TO THE MAX.

  • What a wonderful clip of an incredibly gifted rock 'n roll performer. Love his music. Thanks for the post!

  • she died of cancer

  • When did Jody die? Is Charles wife still alive?

  • Jody passed away on June 6th, 2004...I believe she had some type of cancer.

Shirley (Nash) Westover (Jody's mom) is living and was present at the making of the 'So Long Baby' video in Coopersville, Michigan. She has close ties to Joe G and the Zippity Doo Wop Band along with Max Crook (Del's keyboard man) (they cover Del's music). She strongly prefers not to be called Del's ex-wife.

Del married Bonnie Tyson in 1987.

  • Thanks for the update. I haven't seen Shirly since Charles passed away. He and I were soul friends, and I attended his wedding in 87. I miss him so !!! He never got over Shirly, she really was his " One'

  • I met a woman recently who is married to a musician....she knows Del/Charles' sister quite well.....she is the one who related that Shirly dislikes being called his ex-wife. My mom went to school with Del/Charles and my stepdad had worked with him briefly in the early 50s.

  • At least in heaven jody can once again be with her father del.

  • Does anyone know how Jody his youngest daughter died? Did she commit suicide also.....so sad.

  • I love listening to these songs, makes me smile and remember how easy life used to be.

  • what a great man del was miss him so much

  • a geat voice, great song and great memories. Thank you

  • brill saw del wookey hollow liverpool 1974

  • This is one of my all-time favorites; actually I do like this old stuff, too =).Thanks sooo much!

  • I like the part wher it goes, "Her name, it doesn't matter." I don't think I ever heard that in a song before. It kind of weird and crazy if you think about it. I'll bet this song is baseed on a true story. Anyway, next to Runaway, this is a great Del Shannon song.

  • No doubt the greatest, he was loved here in Australia, a great video exists of his concert down underm morphs Satisfaction into Pretty Woman so easily.

    Ban guns I say

  • Thanks for this upload of the legendary Del Shannon. I remember reading way back when he was going to be a Traveling Wilbury after 'The Big O' passed & I was looking forward to that. Then I remember reading sadly of his suicide. RIP Del - The world misses you.

  • I spotted Del Shannon shopping in London a long time ago. I asked him for his autograph and he very reluctantly signed one of my cheques for me !

  • Poor old Del Shannon. He was aksed to join the Wilburys after Orbison passed away, but chose instead to commit suicide. PS: What's with the Disneyland guest countdown board?

  • After Runaway, this is my favorite Del Shannon song. Too bad he couldn't conquer his inner demons. He sure is missed.

  • fantastic del was the best ever maz50

  • fantastic

  • He was a great man.

Got to know him and his wife and 3 children well while running the fan club with Ron Clark.
