DEAR SIR OR MADAM: As you know, there cannot be a magazine or newspaper printed WITHOUT ADVERTS!! Now, in these ipad/nook editions, do they have adverts? If not, then what is the point of advertising in a magazine? I mean, it costs a FORTUNE to advertise your products - yet, from what I hear, some of these electronic editions don't carry them. PLEASE ADVISE.

I bought the nook because I read at night or I want cookbooks with color pics and kid books with color. Also my friends and I lend cookbooks frequently also lend kids books, which is the best.

Why is speed important when concerning eReaders. Mostly the image is static (you are viewing a page). Surfing the shops is just an addition, but the main idea is still to read the book.

The first-gen Kindle had an SD card slot. I don't know why Amazon got rid of it with subsequent versions. That and the removable battery are the two reasons I've stuck with the 1G Kindle.

good info! but some mistakes though!

first: Kindle has WiFi too! they both come with WiFi+3g.

Second: Battery on Kindle is NOT 14days. its 23-30 days. against 10days of nook.

Ipad? The Ipad uses an LED light, it's not an ereader. It shouldn't even be in this comparison. Go and read a novel on an Ipad and tell me how it works out. It will strain your eyes.

i like seeing book covers so that makes the nook better for me, and im really not impatient about fastness, i think its strange when people get upset because something takes a couple seconds longer than it should have, I mean what could you really do in 5 or 10 seconds? :) it probably depends on what you are looking for in an e-reader... :)

The version of the nook software he reviewed had the problems he described. The newer version of the nook software is MUCH better. Couldn't stand it before I upgraded the software and love it now that I have.

I look forward to an update to this when they can talk about the iPad. I love mine, BUT it's still on the heavy side for reading in bed, my favorite place to read. It's hard to read with, without a case, and just heavy when trying to read a novel. Not really sure what can be done about that, but this was one of the main things I was excited about. I can imagine Apple producing a smaller, lighter version to address this issue in the next 12-18 months.

To say that the responsiveness is "much" slower on the nook is laughable. It is fractions of a second slower on page turns(much improved from the 2x turn speed at release). And I completely stopped watching when you said the devices need to interface with the book store makes the device. YOU ARE WRONG. That makes the Kindle, it does not at all make the Nook. You can download books from well over 50 sources and sideload them(load from pc to Nook), the kindle has 2 formats

All the Kindle vs nook reviews never mention you can get library books on the nook, You can not on the kindle. Get a Library book from your library and it disapears in 2 weeks. awesome.

I think Shannon was reluctant to talk about it since he hasn't tried it yet but the advantages of the iPad include, a larger screen, no need for a book light, support for color illustrations, slick rendered page and 3D page-turning animation. Browsing the iBook store should also be a much nicer experience than navigating a mostly monochrome, e-ink book store.
