Lieberman is fine, just so long as he doesn't expect the support of the rank-in-file Fabian/Progressive Democrats, who really are the base of the party. The Republicans do not treat their base in the way that the Democratic "centrists" all do. Tony Blair really has the same problem that Lieberman does; it's really my problems with the "Third Way" and Radical Centrism. I don't think those things really build the party but lead to capitulation on principle.

I didn't think it was racist, but then again, I'm much younger than a lot of voters and I've never really had the idea that interracial dating or intimacy was somehow wrong or immoral -- I mean, I grew up seeing interracial couples everywhere. But I guess it could play on people's fears of miscegenation -- but the only people I can think of who would have those fears are either really old (senior citizens) or members of the Klan or something.

I was a political science major and I know about how the South has a stranglehold on electoral politics. But it's impossible to say that this is about race, particularly when it highlights a number of issues. To make it a race issue is "gotcha" politics.
