  • If you type title into wikipedia you get lyrics with translation into Latvian and English

  • Its so sad this pretty language will disappear soon.

The Latvian government doesnt seem to care about preserving it.

  • @GodOfUnbelief But the Finnish and Estonian ones do, and there are Finns and Ests learning the language.

  • Estonian and Finn guys: of course, the Livonian language is VERY similar to yours.

  • I am estonian, and i can understand this!?!?

  • Livonians are very small nation 300 people or more. They are assimilated to Latvians

  • I know finnish and i can understand some words

  • "Min izāmō" translates literally as "My fatherland".

  • Tutulta kuullostaa. Toivottavasti liivin kieli tulee säilymään.

  • Fantastic! Sounds so beautiful!

  • @LolPomps That's how I understood it as an Estonian.

  • Haha. I can understand some words in this song. I hope livonian language will be "resurrected".

  • As far as I understand it is translated into the Livonian national anthem of Estonia. But it is not surprising, Estonians are the closest relatives of the Livs.

  • It sounds like the Finnish Anthem sung in Hungarian!!

  • Seems, like there is swapped first and second strophe, when compared with official words found in Wikipedia and every other portal found using google. And it seems, that they say in "ja rāndan sūdõ āndabõd" instead of "un rāndan sūdõ āndabõd", "ja" is by my opinion natural language word, meaning "and", but "un" is latvijan word.

  • I'm speaking Livonian intermediate level and it's nice to have an anthem in this portal. For sure, it's my favourite language to speak.

  • @alnitis Why the anthem is colled Livian when it is the same like Estonian anthem?...

  • @alnitis

  • @Ed1974Lt

    F. Pacius is a German composer, who is a music author for Estonian, Finnish and Livonian (Livian) anthem. That's why you think it's "the same". Lyrics was written by Livonian poet Kōrli Stalte.

  • Sounds like finnish and Estonian national anthems. Beuatiful!

  • Beautiful, but what exactly mean "Min izāmō"?

And if you can speak livonian, could you tell something about it?

  • @tochtli098 I can't speak livonian but I think "Min izāmō" means "My fatherland" because there are some similarities with the finnish language. Like in finnish "Minun isänmaani" or "Mun isänmaa" and so on.

  • @Yksiaani Why the anthem is colled Livian when it is the same like Estonian anthem?...

  • @Yksiaani and this song has the melody of the finnish anthem.

  • @Yksiaani excellent deduction. i feel you are completely right. so mō would correspond to maa. brilliant deduction.

  • @Yksiaani I think there are also some etymological connection with Slavic Languages: in Bosnia we say "moja zemlja"... At the end we're all brothers and sisters on this planet.

  • @BosnianPanslavism In Russian what I say «моя земля», but Liv in "Min izāmō" Estonian heard "minu isamaa" - "моя родина".

  • @tochtli098

Yes, Min izāmō - My fatherland.

What do you want to know exactly about this language? It's one of the oldest Finno-Ugric languages from Balto-Finnic language branch (where are Estonian, Finnish, Karelian, Livonian, Võro, Votic, Veps etc.). Orthography of this language looks like mix of Latvian and Estonian. Estonians (especially Võro speakers, Southestonians) can understand something, Latvians nothing (only some loanwords).

  • @tochtli098 Min izāmō means My Fatherland. Livonian is a fennic language speaken in Lettonia. It is the same linguistic team as Finnish, Estonian and Hungrian.

  • kõlab nagu eesti hümn. it seems like an estonian hymn. its nice language specially this what peoples talk about 600 years ago cause that wasnt so latvianized but it what nowdays are spoken it is strongly latvianized. its like estonian-latvian mixed language

  • Is this the livonian lanuage ? im from uk , i hear this lanuage is nearly extinct is this true ?

  • @cowboykenny21 Yeah it's livonian and there are just few people left who can speak this language.

  • Do you speak this lanuage ?

what can you tell me about it ?

    thanks

  • Technically the last native speaker died last year. There are some people who speak it as their second language though, plus it's taught in universities in Latvia, Estonia and Finland.

  • @Yksiaani Its such a sad story , I see there is a website dedicated to this lanuage (livonian) . Im hoping to learn finnish and would be interested in studying this lanuage I hear that there are people in latvia who understand livonian ?

  • @Yksiaani Yes, but now there are several young Livonian people who learners Livonian language. I am one of them.

  • @Yksiaani Thanks :) I have just compared the finnish national anthem to this song and its very similar dont you think ?

  • @Yksiaani i can't speak livonian but the meaning is: my fatherland as the finnish minun isamaa!

  • @cowboykenny21 Same in Irelands -GAELIC. Dead languages-Livonian same...SAD....

  • wigudfg

    So... amazin'.

    |DD

I'm going to attempt to be albe to sing ittttt. Hope I don't fail.

  • @SealandDoesNotExist

Livonian is my favorite foreign language, I'm in with all my soul!

Līvõkēļ um min amā ārmaz ulzõkēļ, minā um sizzõl min amā jengõks.
