  • I want to make one of these!!

  • Put soda in it

  • I wonder if I would turn into a real life Dr. Manhattan if I became bombarded by those substances.

  • Why not poke a hole in the valve and see what happens with the process. Maybe everything will explode and turn into a black hole.

  • This may seem like a childish question, but do you think you would die if you stood in the path of the rotating particles? :P

  • @JermeisterHD we are being hit by particles every second of everyday. But then again, a bullet is just a bunch of particles too. So it depends on the mass of the object and the veolocity. F=MA (force = mass * Acceleration)

  • We're still letting "god" hold us back?? Really?? Really??

  • @saucersauce We can't let 'nogod' hold us back either. Agnosticism.

  • That looks awsome!! Huge credit to everyone who worked on this !!! This is an invention of a generation.

  • CERN IS THE NO.1 SCIENCE INSTITUTE EVER.

  • interesting scince

  • Damn, brainer is a moron. Things maybe better if we were in stoneage? Someone club you to death to Fuck your woman, kill your baby in winter because you can't feed it, die from a small infection... Brainer, get off ur wal-mart pc, go out in the woods and get eaten by a wolf.

  • how do they peel the electrons from the atom?

  • @rubikskidcube The electrons have less mass than the atom. Therefore when the speed is increased from the original speed to faster the inertia/momentum of the atom is greater and the electron less. The electron will have a difficulty keeping up so it will come off. Thats what I believe I am fourteen so if I am incorrect that is why.

  • u probably drive a hummer or some other big gas wasting car

  • This will prove EVERYTHING!!

  • 5:58

    Yay, String Theory!!!

  • my brain hurts :P

  • its 2011, nothing happened yet so i guess we don't have to go against it rite?

  • @WatchinVide0 well a lot of things happened and/or didn't happen. what non-occurrence are you specifically referring to?

  • this is an awesome video

  • maybe the world would be a much better place if we were in the stone age.

  • @sportsjunkie113 Oh, really? When tooth decay was a death cause, emergency communication was via fire signals and fucking your mother was not an issue, aha, those were the times!! pff mercy...

  • @lemonita You mad lol?

  • So...what's the result of a slightly misguided proton?

  • 10k billion degrees...god

  • excellent

  • this happened in to 2008 creating a back hole (dark matter) wouldnt protens infinatly increase the size of the black hole? ive been asking around if anyone can please help...

  • I'm getting really annoyed with all the idiots protesting against this. If everyone thought like you do, we would still be living in the stone ages.

And if you want to save money and make peace, why don't you go out and protest against the billions being wasted on futile efforts in Afghanistan, or go to Africa to help the poor or even just donate money instead of sitting on your asses and expecting others to do it?

  • @Linkage1992 what the hell is this,do you think that bible is wrong and science is right huh,no matter what happened in this planet they have alpha and omega and most of all they have a creator of that Gods particles.

  • @Linkage1992

if u ask me, staying in the stone age would have been the best idea man has ever had

  • @brainer6 Then your retarded...

  • @Silentblade001

ya but i mean we would never had so many wars, death, disease

look at animals, they seem pretty peacful

plus earth would not be suffering either

  • @brainer6 u don't see deaths and fights with animals? you are a retard man seriously. Animals living peacefully? What non-sense.

  • @sesshoumaru3st

ok animals fight, and die. but the point is that it is natural and that the animals live in peace with the earth. animals fight cause they have to for natural selection, not because animal A has a nice pair of shoes that animal B wants. SO STFU NOOB PIECE OF SHIT. UR A DUMB PIECE OF COCKING SUCKING SHIT

  • @brainer6 animals....peaceful? really? go turn on National Geographic channel, or Discovery channel....its all about animals eating animals in some form or another :P

  • @Silentblade001

ok but (this is corny) its the cirlce of life. its nature. and although mother nature can sometimes be a bitch, its bettter then wat ppl do. U LITTLE PIECE OF SHIT FUCKTARD

  • @brainer6 woah, i dont know what to say to some idiot, who is actually retarded or trying in vain to be funny

  • @brainer6 great idea, no modern medicine, no technology, I imagine a lot of dumbasses can get behind that. In fact if you find it such a magnifcient idea, why not go out into the wilderness and live off the land with no outside contact rather than telling random people on the internet to do so.

  • @windscar15

cant cause i love playing online games

  • this made me dizzy lol

  • Answer this: What effect is there upon the accelerated protons when applying Eienstien theory of relativity??? I c some other possiblities and dangers.

  • The only possible ways that this could receive thumbs down is 1.)by error or 2.) stupidity... Beyond being an expert in physics this does an incredible job of explanation of highly technical data in an excellent manner devoted to comprehension; incredible

  • they should just make this some amusement ride, and try to get back their money

  • I don't think it mattes how much it costs thee is still money in the world

How many of you can say you helped the starving

Not homeless 10 dollars and above

not many not me so shutup about how much it costs because you can afford a computer but you don't try to solve the problem

  • and how does this help us with the starvation and ending war?

  • remove a important part,or press the wrong buttton -

    atom smasher go BOOM

  • protons can't go faster so they get heavier

XD I LOLD SO HARD ,this reminded me of fat guys

  • wow what a waste of money and anyone who claims new technology can come from this go build some more LHCs to make it available for the public.

  • i still dont get what this does... people say that it makes a anti gravity and others say it makes black holes =\

  • @DIMATIF It reproduces conditions after the big bang, Basically an area of exceedingly high energy density. and consiquently we see the particles that where around at the time of the universes origin 13 billion years ago. Those saying its a waste of money are ignorant, CERN is merely answering that all important question... Where the fuck did we come from?!

  • @BlackMetalWarewolf we come from your mother's vagina ._.

  • @DIMATIF please dont be ignorant

  • @BlackMetalWarewolf The earth isn't billions of years old neither is the universe.

  • @1954phyllis you've made the claim, now back it up with logic and evidence.

  • @DIMATIF As i believe it creates a big bang. Not a gang bang, a BIG BANG

  • i get so tired of idiots making anti-science commentary. i wish there was a way to deny them every advancement and proceed of science: from the car to the lights in their homes. every, every one of the conveniences of life they enjoy, even these computers they use to make their asinine commentary, was the proceeds of some NERD's mind.

  • NERDS NERDS NERDS

  • pretty sure timtallisman & Tzimnewman3 should take a little spelling class at community college before they ask to have their opinions taken seriously.... "people's lifes before my interestes"???? really guys???

  • i heard that they could find out how to do teleportation with this knowledge too.

  • If i smash charged atom with O2, so what happens? xD

  • Lol beware ot terrorists)))

  • this is cool but mega dangerous, if they hit the speed of light, the ring will be ultra dangeous because there should be eithe a worm hole or a black hole in the center or attracting a new black hole, in easy words for noobs, the have created a machine that will destroy us... brobaly the whole galexy...

  • @heli121212 SUICIDE MOTHERFUCKER

  • @nicktjeuh lol? or is that just being mean

  • @IamLinksys

"We have to spend money to...advance as a human race."

We could also advance as a Human race is we eliminated homelesness and people dieing of starvation.

So giving money to people so they can feed themselfs, put some sort of roof over their head and giving them the same chances as you or me is sending money to a bottomless pitt but spedning billions of a project that may or may not have any benefit isn't!!

  • @IamLinksys no your wrooooong im sure if you were a starvin kid in africa u wudn give a rats shity ass if 5 billion would make us smarter you would just want to save you and your people

  • haha suck shit france

  • Their going to blow us up on 2012 DOOMSDAY!!! lol jk

  • i think you mean the CERN not the CEN wait maybe. Anyways in 2012 there gona make one with anti matter and matter... shit lol.

  • The mass of the atmos in the accelerator is not enough to make a black hole. nor is there enough energy for them to make one. hints why black holes can be made in space but not in the machine. Scientist would not make something they KNOW would kill of the planet. @RogerDog33 you are very correct. : ]

  • anyone thinking this knowledge is too expensive, your ignorance costs much more.

  • @RogerDog33 Totally agree.

  • r u tryin to blolw us the fuck up??

  • @AmPliFiezZ if this works in 2012 then we can make an evaluation in science so many things we could learn.

  • This smasher is not enough to rip space-time fabric. But all things start small. This smasher will still evolve as time goes by.

  • lol

  • wow -___- humans are stupid enough to create an energy source that will probably kill life on earth :/.......i give it 5 years before we all die

  • @xemex1807 were going to all die

    i agree

  • @xemex1807 were going to all die

    i agree

  • explode = boooooom

  • exploding waste of money boooooommm

  • if they fix it it will explode

  • This has wasted more money then any other project.

$5 billion plus the billions more needed to make "repairs".

Now they are going to shut it again for 18 months.

Meanwhile, people are starving to death because there isn't enough money to get them food and medicine.

    Sick!!

  • @Tzimnewman3 sooo, if you are such a human-lover.. i quess you are starving because you are helping all those poor souls in the 3th world lands? ofcourse you are. To my opinion, the key to the future is understanding how the universe works. from there on, we can start manipulating it. plus, 5 billion isn't that much (for instance, the europian union in total has a budget of 7.000.000.000.000.000 euro).

  • @timtallisman

You really do have problems with getting your priorities right. You don't like being tolled that being are starving to death whilst money is being wasted on hobbies you like. I also like scienve and progression but I put people's lifes before my interestes. I suggest you and the rest of the sick bunch you follow do the same and get your priorites correct.

  • @Tzimnewman3 i also noticed a flaw in your statement. "This has wasted more money then any other project." Really? have you seen the burj dubai project? 18 billion euro's. The palm island project, 10 billion euro's... long list probably following.. i believe even the subway line builded in the netherlands exeeds 1 billion euro. Money isn't worth that much. i suggest for you to fly over to the poor country's and do something to help them.

  • @timtallisman I suggest it be you who starve to death because science is more important then another Human being.

  • @Tzimnewman3

The Iraq war alone costs 4.2 billion EACH DAY. All of which accumulates in the over 8 trillion dollars of US national debt. Maybe its a huge cost, but I sooner advocate it in the pursuit of knowledge than war.

  • @Rhonda9000 I agree, the Iraq war was also a large waste of money. If it were not for the cost of Iraq and Afghanistan then the Credit Crunch wouldn't have been as bad as it was. It was down to the fact that we had no money left and we are deeper in debt. Where was the knowledge then? Seem's knowledge means nothing if we are not going to use any of it.

  • @Tzimnewman3

    LOL, not "we" pal,

    I'm Canadian.

  • @Rhonda9000 Canadians never sent any armed forces into Iraq??

  • @Tzimnewman3

"..It was down to the fact that "WE" had no money left and "WE" are deeper in debt.

But we sure did send our troop to Iraq. We sent Chad over there. He's the guy with the potato gun guarding the supply shed.

All joking aside, you cannot insist we poured anywhere near to the same amount of money and man-power as the US did. Not even remotely close.

  • @Rhonda9000 $463.7 billion is not that much?

Anyway, to suggest the UK does not have any money left is a joke. You must be reading our British tabloids lol A private joke was left from one Minister (Labour) to another Minister (Conservatives). How else can the UK be the second largest Force in Iraq and now Afghanistan?? So as the UK got no money now??

  • @Tzimnewman3

I'd like to know where you even got those numbers first of all, but it really isn't as bad when you consider the extreme difference in the Canadian and American national debt. You could say we can afford to make such contributions. We're not in any way comparable to the US and the cluster-fuck which it is currently in.

Also, I never stated the UK had no money. I've only stated the USA is blowing over 4.2 billion a day on war.

Here is a towel for all that egg on your face.

  • @Rhonda9000 "I'd like to know where you even got those numbers first of all"

    Department of Finance Canada

"but it really isn't as bad when you consider the extreme difference" - Of course, it wouldn't seem bad if 3,000 people lost thier lives when compared to millions in another conflict then, no??

  • @Tzimnewman3

Possibly, but I'm no expert claiming authority on weighing the correctness of one war to another. I'm only making the observation that this scientific endeavor is more justified given the amount of money pissed away on war.

  • @Rhonda9000 "Possibly, but I'm no expert claiming authority on weighing the correctness of one war to another."

That wasn't the question! My question is the one which has a ? after the sentence.

  • @Tzimnewman3

And my answer was in-between the letter "P" and the first period. Here it is again.

Possibly 3000 losing their lives isn't as bad when compared to millions killed in another conflict. I'm not claiming to be an expert with authority on such matters. Determining whether or not those millions or thousands killed in 2 different wars were equally justified is relative.

  • @Rhonda9000 Possibly is NOT answering the question. "Possibly" is the type of answer you give when you are not sure or don't know so either be sure about your answer or say you don't know.

  • @Tzimnewman3

    Man, get a freaking life.

  • @Rhonda9000 Don't try and debate then avoid answering the questions like a tart.

  • @Tzimnewman3

dude, you lost this one. Fade away and pick a stupid fight someplace else.

  • @Tzimnewman3 The Americans are spending billions going to war while people are starving to death. They can't even help their own people when disasters strike. Don't be so ignorant. Everyone is starving but no one is there to help. That's just life. You're sitting at home, warm and cosy using your computer and the internet while there are homeless people on the streets looking for shelter looking for their next meal.

  • This is a waste of fucking money!

  • oooh... pretty neon lights o_O

  • and by the way this can not interact with the fabric on time space

  • @xaviertavarez1 Interesting...do you have more information for that statement? Not to disprove but to add to my thesis.

  • @xaviertavarez1 can you explain that a bit? How can any physical 4D object exist outside of time and space?

  • scientist do this to understand what exactly happen at the moment of the big ban and find prove the string theory is true by lookin at gravatom going to another dimension and to prove sparticles exist and this kind of event would never open a wornwhole and there is very litle chance that it can cause a black hole

  • excuse me if im wrong ( no flaming or troll like attacks please) but i heard that they are going to do thier main testing in the year 2012. now that would go hand in hand with all the doomsday theories right? so why don't they just do it earlier or later? or do they not acknowledge the end of the world scenarios? intriguing stuff none the less. personally i think this has a tiny chance of doing any massive global damage but while there is a tiny tiny chance you just never really know...

  • @dazzlet666 They are already conducting heavy test in smashing protons to find Higgs Boson. They said the closest thing to an armeggedon with this machine is that a particle could get out of line and ruin the cement structure that CERN has built around the Large Hadron Collider. I believe people need to stop looking at the bads now, and learn about string theory. SO they have an idea WHY they built the LHC.

  • Honestly i cant see anything major happening that would kill someone unless they were standing next to the protons when the collided and by some astronomically low chance it causes an explosion.

  • So, is the data out yet?

  • Comment removed

  • ok everywun hold up ! THIS IS APPERANTLY GANNA MAKE SPACE OR SOMEWHERE HAVE LOADS OFF BLACKHOLES EVERY WUN KNOWS WHA THEY ARE BADICLY THEY CAN KILL US OK U THINK THEY WILL DO SUMFINK LIKE THIS A DESTROY EVERYTHINK INCLUDING THEM SELVES YH THEY CAN DO EXSPERIMATES AND STUFF BUT THEY WOULDNT EVER DO SOMFINK AS DUMBASS THIS

  • @cypriotwun0909 stupid troll are you realy that fucking stupid it takes a billion times energy and mass of our sun to creat a black whole. there will definitely be minute puckers in space time as the protons collide but no scientist or anyone who has taken basic physics and passed with decent marks would say it will destroy us. think about it. sheesh.

  • In other words no one knows HOW, WHEN, WHERE, WHAT & WHO created the universe.

Money is wasted here. Give it to charity. I'm sure someone knows HOW, WHEN, WHERE, WHAT & WHO created you.

  • @pogpog28 hey dude the reason were doing this is because if we can understand the bonds of atoms and quarks better or the even smaller building blocks. we might discover something very usefull, such as more advanced quantum computing, a new energy source, perhaps mabey with the basic technology from the lhc 50 years down the road we can turn water to gold. the possibilities are simply endless, this is what science is about, the value of knowledge is simply priceless.

  • I'm just concern about the possibilities of a draw back regarding this kind of configuration.

We are talking about lives here. I always respect you guys since my birth but wouldn't be this a dangerous way of getting to know what science can't explain?

We have limited knowledge so to speak but going out of the boundaries of the atom world is really, really a dangerous move.

  • @pogpog28 Money would be far better used to feed the hungery, yes i agree. The experiment in the LHC is completely safe despite what media says. science has given us so much so i think we can give this to science. there are far worse things we could have spent the money on anyways.

  • Ah ok. Thanks for the heads up sir.

I really appreciate the benefits of how science contributes to our future.

  • @pogpog28 i want to state that i am not a scientist my grand parents who i lived with, are so i really don't have much credibility commenting on this yet, but a great couple of books written by scientists who supported the construction of the lhc, That have read are.

    The trouble with physics

The fabric of the cosmos If your interested in the subject take a look at them. :)

  • everyone willbe going crazy in 2012 i think there will be suicides while i go and drink some coca coke =)

  • Great explanation video, but I don't believe it has anything to do with learning about the big bang (even if it did happen!). How can something as vast as space have a determinable point of origin? Especially when we can't see the boundaries, if any exist. Most of the scientists working there have bought the same excuses for the LHC but there is blatantly a hidden agenda, known only by a handful of people. IT IS DANGEROUS and when it works It will be like Pandora's box being wide open!

  • I mean Ford didn't build a car without knowing what it was going to do!

  • there is always some one incharge of the person incharge.

  • Exactly. You know!

  • just like secret military missions the people fighting dont know much untill there jumping out the chopper, so why would 'scientists' be told what its really getting used for.

  • Maybe Mcdonalds employees are being misled as well! They aren't inf act serving crappy burgers- but helping orchestrate the end of the world!

Do you think the scientists at CERN were just handed the blueprints of this thing by some unknown benefactor and told to build it?

  • LOL thinking about it, just like hitler

  • Yeah lol! Don't you just love being right? Most people just don't see it, even when the evidence is overwhelming!

  • Yes lol i am fourteen and can see things when it is infrount of my face! And for some reason i still wanted to go into the armed forces :/

  • Crazy dude. Don't be a killing slave or cannon fodder for nobody. The armed forces make out that they are turning you into a man but really they make you a mentally unstable killing machine in the long run! Going to war is very damaging to peoples' sanity.

  • yeah, i dont think its all glammer anymore.

  • They offer proof, you offer none for your claims.

Give proof that the LHC is as dangerous as you believe it is and MAYBE you'll have a point.

  • What proof do they offer then? String THEORY and the big bang THEORY. Theories and speculation!!!! If you accept their theories as proof you must accept mine too! My real proof is in the fact that many scientists are saying that they don't have a clue what the LHC is going to do. So there is a big element of risk/danger. Why did they build something so big and expensive if they didn't know what it does? Look at who funds it as well!

  • They know just how it works, provide proof please if you're going to spout wild claims. I do not think the word Theory means what you think it means.

  • How it works and what it will actually do are 2 quite separate things. I think this discussion has reached your limit of understanding lol.

  • You keep saying this but what proof do you have? Do you have a doctorate in Quantum physics? All you've done is spam wild and ignorant claims about things you know not the first thing about. Im beginning to think you are a troll and ive been duped.

  • Why would I want a doctorate in quantum physics when so much of it is just theory? Anyone can come up with a theory, doesn't necessarily mean that it is true. You have to admit that there is at least a 50/50 chance whether it is dangerous or not because nobody has ever made and used an LHC before. What makes you such an expert to tell me that I am not allowed to believe that the LHC is going to fuck with something that it shouldn't?

  • Because you offer no proof to your claims, while the scientists at CERN who have dedicated their lives to learning about this kind of science have mountains of it.

And where do you get 50/50 chance from? Cite your sources or your arguments are worth nothing.

  • 50/50 is simple probability. Nobody has any real proof.

  • You are saying words, but the words you say have no meaning. I dont think you understand how probability works, for example there is NOT a 50/50 chance a shark will devour me, here in Manitoba Canada.

  • Obviously you have a very different way of looking at things to me, which is ok. It's called diversity. Can you live with that or do you expect everyone to believe what they are told like you do?

  • @fatalist6o9

    You're a dumbass.

  • Oh, it hurts!

  • Do you realize everything in science is a theory? That doesn't mean there can't be practical applications.

You need to realize, scientists describe the way the world works based on real observations from controlled experiments. They aren't out to prove things, they are out to create models that describe the behavior of reality. If they find exceptions, they update their theories to comply with their newfound knowledge of reality. Modern quantum models comply with known reality.

  • A lot of reality is still unknown. Quantum models are incomplete and dependant on the existence of invisible particles. Science used to be about proving things beyond a reasonable doubt, now it is dominated by money, speculation and deception. Have you seen what happens to scientists who don't conform? Even if they are right, they are ridiculed and they find it difficult to find work. You need to realise the way the world is structured and, what the interests of the people who fund the LHC are.

  • Of course a lot of reality is unknown. That's why scientists perform these experiments, in order to find more data, poke holes in their theories, and update their models.

The "invisible" particles are logically inferred from existing observations, and can be disproven if the "visible" particles that warranted the inference are observed to behave in a way that contradicts earlier observations that implied the existence of these "invisible" particles.

  • Haha, this reminds me of hot wheel tracks.

  • Finding cures for AIDS and cancer would only doom the earth....the earth made these things to get rid of us and control the populatation....people are a virus we have only been on earth a short period and are already dooming it for failure....if we cure these diseases the earth will only create more in an attempt to save its self....can you blame it....2012 ends the earth any how so quit your crying

  • I wasnt aware that giant heaps of Minerals, rocks, and organic life had sentience.

  • This is what the Kardashians should be watching.

  • what a waste of money we can smash atoms later for now we need a cure for aids and cancer, stuff like that

  • Um...those things ARE being studied, do you think throwing money at people means they can do anything? Projects such as this, and space exploration are just as important as curing disease.

  • y is every1 saying the worlds gona end it such a minor chance of it making a black hole even though it is making a black hole but it will only be there for like o.o1 of a second all they wana know is smaller atoms than atoms this will have som much information in it but i am not sure if it was werth so much money

  • For scaring muslims, apparently.

  • Is is me or did they say big bang was created when two atoms colide? Yes it's true they did so y try to colide atoms? Because they can, you know a 14 year old girl commuted suicide because of this thing, because they say there's only .02% of a big bang happening yet everyweek sum1 wins the lottery and a ps3 breaksdown.... It can happen use the money for life changing not life ending

  • Um I dont know where you got the idea that the universe was started by atoms colliding, because that is quite wrong. And its not their fault some 14 year old girl was severely ignorent, and severely depressed.

Listen, people like you need to do some actual learning, these people have dedicated their LIVES to studying this stuff, and as such know more then you could possibly imagine, and why would they do something that could destroy the world? Science is about learning.

  • A 14 year old committed suicide because atom smashing might make a Black Hole?

  • I have no fucking idea, some idiot called adzereastonfan said that some kid killed themselves over this.

  • omg =__=

  • Yea, why WOULD they do something that could destroy the world? Science IS about learning....then the atom bomb was created
