  • for your info they are blind

  • poor Alice...she died cuz Adam grabbed Mary, but they left the baby....the baby was right in front of her i don't get this...what kind of parent doesn't grab her kid in the midst of a blazing fire? this episode was poorly written if they intended to kill Mary's baby off. and for heaven sake's why? 1st she had a miscarriage, now her baby dies, then she suffers a nervous breakdown...in what direction were they really going with her character, were they tryin to write her out the series as well?

  • wait where were they going that albert didnt wanna go?

  • @iloveyouforeve0213 probably the funeral

  • Comment removed

  • Will never forget this episode it was what I was watching on 9/11/01 when the attacks started

  • soo sad how thigs like that happen to peolpe

  • I do not want to be buried in "something pretty." I want the plainest pine box that can be made. Spend the money, instead, on something pretty that can be appreciated by the living, not something that is only going to go into the ground.

  • @MissLadyDoolittle this sounds really weird but i really like your way of general thinking there.

  • I feel so bad

  • poor albert he feels so guilty ):

  • oh my gosh i hate seeing mary like that :(

  • 6:03 Look, I know that a parent's child dying is one of the most painful things that can happen to anyone..... However, allowing grief to overcome you to the point of insanity - that's what it is - is inexcusable. Pain is part of life, how you deal with it defines your maturity.

  • @LokitheCajun are you an expert on grief and how people should deal with their grief? everyone processes grief differently.... and considering how she recovered from it and moved on, I would say she dealt just fine

  • @PreciousShadow2 She did recover from it and moved on - which was great - but considering that she'd probably have killed herself if she wasn't restrained during her frantic scenes doesn't make her deal with grief well. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying everyone should have the same reaction to grief, or even that everyone should deal with grief well, just that grief - as all emotions - shouldn't rule you to any point, especially life and death.

  • Johnathon is such a great husband... I wish he didn't have to suffer. All Alice was trying to do was save others. :(

  • I was crying and getting nightmares, poor baby!!!

  • Is Albert sharing the attic with Laura?

  • @321womble yep, ever since he moved in with the Ingalls in season 5

  • It keeps crashing on me XD

  • Nellie don't just stand there, go get Dr. Baker! O_O

  • OMG!!! did u see mary! she was trippi'n!!! haha & i thought mary was the good child, aww i do feel bad for her though!:(

  • especially after he JUST got adopted into a family who actually loves him, and now he has to live with the fact that he caused them so much pain. that should be punishment enough for anyone!!! watching him read that poem to mary and then hearing her hum the baby's song brought me to tears instantly, and then with the music box, and the screaming. omg. no wonder the kid ran away, i would've probably run away right when i found out about the fire. i think albert and mary did great in this episode.

  • @UltimateThanos now, seriously? if that was ur son who accidentally caused a fire, would u be saying all that? geez idk what u have against albert but come ON

  • @9189erbear1195 I was emotionally heated when I fist saw this episode, I admit I reacted hastily. But it still bothers me that by the end of this special no one received capital punishment. The boys were doing something they knew was wrong and in the process started a fire that killed a beloved wife/mother and innocent newborn baby, and the end result is "I love you son"? I love you for destroying our lives with your adolescent stupidity?

  • @UltimateThanos i know, i was emotional, too. but i understand that, as a parent (even though im not one but i know how my parents act towards me), nothing's worse than watching ur child feel tortured emotionally, which is how albert was in this situation. i would've realized that, heck, the kids gonna have to live with this stupid mistake for the rest of his life, no matter how bad i punish him for it, it'll never go away. and that in itself is punishment enough, in my opinion.

  • @UltimateThanos Capital Punishment is usually reserved for serial Killers, cop killers, killing for the hell of it, or killing in the process of a robbery. Come on...he was careless and was sneaking a pipe with a friend, was startled by Hester Sue, put it down where she would not see it and scurried up the basement to avoid further punishment. It is not like the kid emptied a gas can and lit a match in order to kill people....please! Big difference.

  • gosh, poor albert. i know, i know, it was a stupid mistake. but that would scar u for life. to make such a careless mistake that ends in awful tragedy at such a young age. i mean, its not like he wanted his best friends mother and nephew to die!! he probably loved mrs garvey especially because he saw her all the time. and to know that his sister got hurt so badly through all this (applause to melissa sue anderson for her amazing portrayal of mary's character!) must be the worst feeling ever.

  • it made me a little angry when doc baker said she won;t go to the funeral and charles says "she has to" no she does'nt moraly she does but u can;'t make your adult daughter go to a funeral

  • @candlelight482 Poor Mary decides to believe in a conspiracy where everyone took her baby away from her and he's alive somewhere else. I loved how Mary's problem made Charles learn something.

Charles- I don't see what good a psychiatrist is if all he does is talk to her. It'd be different, if he gave her medicine or something. What good is talking?

Caroline- (about Albert) Well what good is talking to him going to do? it'd be different if you were going to give him medicine or something.

  • I think that Adam was a great creation. He adds a little bit of something new that wasn't there before- I love the whole story line:)

  • @PurpleRain1994 Yeah, Adam was a great addition to the series. I agree.

  • Mary never married and Albert never existed

  • @QueenBrendaSIV True, true...

  • what they had one other son? Does someone know witch episode that is in?

  • @Dubajblue The name of the episode is "The Sound of Children."

  • is adam blind in this episode?

  • @planky657 The name of the episode is "To See The Light." It is a 2 part epi and can be viewed on my channel. Please enjoy! : D

  • @planky657 Yes, later he cant see

  • what is it with boys in this family!! everyone that is born dies as a baby! and even albert couldn't escape the curse! he dies in later episodes!

  • Did Mary ever have children after the first two?

  • @avbath No, I do not believe she did on the show.

  • @Emotional2000 Mary Ingalls never had children or even married in real life.

  • @ExplorerDS6789 I know. But thanks for the info anyway....

P.S However in the T.V adaption of Laura's books, Mary does conceive children (as we seen in the episodes: Sounds of Children and May We Make Them Proud).

  • @Emotional2000 I'm aware of that, Emotional.

  • @ExplorerDS6789 Oh, ok...

  • @Emotional2000 HAHAHAHA a little LHOTP fight hehe explorer is gettin angry emotional hahaha :P just jokin :D

  • @LauraLovesAlmanzo I sure hope not... lol ExplorerDS6789 really knows a lot about LHOP... Seriously, have you raed some of the youtuber's comments. Can you say AWESOME!?!? But yeah, I get that you're only kidding. Anyhoo, talk to ya later LHOP fan...

  • @Emotional2000 :VVVVVVVV u called me a LHOP fan!!! lol :D

  • @LauraLovesAlmanzo Well, your Youtube name is LauraLovesAlmanzo... lol ;D

  • @Emotional2000 I believe it was called the sound of our children. But she had a miscarriage in that one, so father inlaw withdrew his offer to take them away from walnut grove. Charles and Caroline were glad. I have a book on the real life of Laura Ingalls and I noticed some differences. I haven't read it all, so I didn't know about Mary never having kids. Some of the things in the series seem better than the real life, except the tragic parts. But they make for heart warming pulling together.

  • @ExplorerDS6789 A lot of scenes were only fictional and probably added for a dramatic effect as I believe that you are quite correct in saying that in real life, Mary never had any children or even married.

  • @Brenniman65 All sources, mainly coming from Mary's sister Laura, indicate that Mary Ingalls never married, bore children of her own, or even said a single cross word about her blindness up until she died in 1928.

  • @ExplorerDS6789 Gosh, you're good....

  • @Emotional2000 I was there.

  • @ExplorerDS6789 Judging my your outstanding LHOP knowledge. I totally believe you... lol : D

  • @ExplorerDS6789 I'm glad they made a lot of the changes they made in the series. The resentment and self pity made the transformation to independence and becoming a teacher great. In real life I imagine the women in Little House were probably not allowed to be so independent either. But this series shows a lot of strength of character and liberation when women's lib didn't exist yet.

  • @ExplorerDS6789 ....I loved when Caroline led the women to leave their men over the petition to give women the right to own property without the husband gaining control and when Laura refused to bend to Almanzo's will when he got demanding. When Almanzo pouted cuz he didn't get his way he told Laura, I guess your father's right you are just a little girl. It showed BRILLIANTLY how letting him have all the power would be the actions of a little girl rather the grown independent women.

  • I find it very weird how TPTB never delved into the relationship between Mary and Albert after this. Mary seemed to instantly forgive him. Also, in Season 09 when Albert made a specail appearance and his character was addicted to morphine, I wish that they would have used the reason of his addiction as still feeling guilty over the baby and Alice's deaths.

  • lets all remeber this is a show this is not real its like a soap opra the kill them off peopple some times react violent some act in shock its a tragic thing that hapen

this part right hear wher she goes your liying your lying she goes of the handle and reacts violently throwing her self at the window wow shes verry angry yikes

  • The only sliver of contentment I get in watching this is reminding myself "it's not real, it didn't really happen..." still though. oh my god.

  • poor Adam and Mary !

    2 Son's dies !

And andy & Jonathan to :(

  • No not poor, poor, poor Albert!

As cute as Albert is, he still has a brain, a smart brain and he didn't use it, he can turn down peer pressure because he's strong but he didn't, he smoked that pipe on his free will. He gets no sympathy from me!

  • i say cut one of his hands off as punishment! later on in the show he gets hooked on drugs obviously he didn't learn the lesson after killing two people. And what does being cute have to do with being smart? you are obviously not smart i hope you are at least cute :)

  • Albert feels guilty because he knew he had no bussiness sneaking and smoking. He's responsable for the fire that killed his little nephew and his best friends mother.

  • It's really odd that Albert feels so much guilt when the people who killed my former husband, by purposely setting the blaze, feel nothing even remotely like guilt.

They act like they're victims more than anything else.

If people can purposely set a fire and feel nothing for its results, Albert sure as shit doesn't need to feel as much guilt as he feels.

You only need to feel guilty if you set it on purpose.

  • omg sometimes I wonder why Little House is rated R,

some of the scenes are horrific! I mean the way Mary behaved when she woke up was like she was posessed! lol

  • Don't watch then DUH!! Moviestar....Wilma Whiner

  • I think Little House is rated perfectly. I think there is nothing wrong in showing Mary's reaction. Everyone handles these situations differently. I have no problem with this scene being on Little House. I don't even want to imagine what it would be like to be in her shoes. I don't even know how I would react.

  • @MsPrincess49 i would go crazy. i wouldn't know what to do in mary's shoes. i feel so bad. she has been through alot.

  • which episode does mary give birth in?

  • @ThePolkadotbikini "Author Author"

  • a young boys mistake,if it was a girls mistake people wouldnt care as much.

he didnt meant to hurt anyone,he even thought the light was off....

he didnt had in mind to kill people nor set the fire..dont be to harsh people.

    poor albert<3

  • How stupid of a deduction Icey

  • whats?

  • how dare you say poor albert? he should at least loose a finger or be shot in the foot as punishment. u don't kill two people and go unpunished.

  • I didn't say poor albert

I said NO NOT POOR ALBERT

    LEARN HOW TO READ!

and if you actually saw the episode where he got hooked on drugs, you'd know that he was in a gang and AGAIN PEER PRESSURE, something albert can't escape I guess, I'm not giving him sympathy but people do make mistakes and he felt bad about it, most people in this world, if they kill someone, they don't feel guilty and by the way...

    YOU'RE A JERK!

    AND I AM CUTE

    !

  • poor, poor, poor Albert!

  • Indeed. The guilt i'm sure he feels is greater than any sea in the world. :'''''(

  • Everytime I watch this I cry. It makes me feel so bad for albert he feels so guilty. He would never knowingly hurt anyone. He is responsible for his nephews and best friend's mom's death.

  • It was albert! omg what a burden on him now for like ever

  • oh my god this episode is so sad

  • This episode is so sad...

What's the name of the episode when Laura's baby dies?

  • times of change

  • The child of no name, I think . cause they couldnt decide.

  • a child with no name

  • Not to mention Charles and Caroline lost their only son before they moved out west.

  • Shame! why wouldnt you like him?

I loved Albert! such a smart guy. one of my favorite characters, And the actor played him very well.

  • y????? besides how he killed the baby & alice, he's pretty good!

  • Wow...despite the fact that LHOPT veterans know how this plot concludes, I still could not imagine how Albert could have worked through the feelings he was experiencing in this. And I agree with the other comments - the acting by the cast members was superb! This was definitely a horrifiying 2-part episode for all of us fans!

  • Bravo to Mellisa Sue Anderson. I have never in all my years seen such a flawless performance...

  • i was pretty young when this episode came out but it was burned into my memory because it was so terrifing!

  • I remember watching bits of this series when I was little. Watching it again now - I don't know that any program to this day has handled serious drama so well. The fire scene was incredibly riveting.

  • I literally felt sick when I saw Mrs. Garvey breaking the glass with her elbow, screaming. Oh my gosh, I had to look away. So horrifying

  • I know! That tore me up, and also the part where Mary sings to the dead baby.

  • @TiredGreenEyes Yeah, I just watched this part and it hurts in my stomach ... :(

  • @TiredGreenEyes I think she was ramming the baby into the window...that made it really disturbing.

  • @TiredGreenEyes i skipped it when i saw her i skiped ahead 2 minutes:(

  • I WISH I could have forgotten that my husband died in a fire. I couldn't make myself forget. Then I felt so numb I thought it would never end.

Now I feel I have to talk about it no matter what crazy comments I may receive for it.

Somebody on You Tube told me nobody cares about my dead husband then proceeded to paint graphic pictures of how I'll never see, hold or be held by him. THAT'S what I mean by crazy.

I could care less what they say now. I have to talk.

  • Omg! What a horrific ordeal... I am so sorry for you loss and you will be in my thoughts vickiormindyb...

  • I too am sorry for your loss. Whoever said those cruel soulless words to you will one day die old and alone with no one to care (if he keeps it up). Just like Ebenezer Scrooge in the future. All I can say is I'm sorry.

  • Oh my gosh!! What heartless freak could say such horrible things to you?!

I'm so sorry for the loss of your soulmate!! That would be a nightmarish thing to endure. I'm sad for you. May God comfort your heart. <3 <3 Take care of yourself. <3 <3

  • @vickiormindyb Whoever told you that is obviously heartless, soulless, and he/she had absolutely no right.

It's good to talk about things like this.

I'll keep you in my prayers, ok?

  • Has any child actor ever grew up to be as fantastic an "adult" actor as Melissa Sue Anderson? There are a number of episodes in addition to this one in which her performances, in my humble opinion, were Emmy-worthy........

  • Yea there have been plenty...Sean and Mackenzie Astin, Alyssa Milano, Holly Marie Combs, etc

  • Everyone talks of Mary's Tragedies. She does have many but above it all she has found love and has a loving family. A person with those things is a lucky person and she is rich in the things that matter. I believe that is the point of the Little House on The Prairie. So many people struggle daily to have the things mary is blessed with. If you have them, you can face any adversity in life with courage. She is blessed.

  • Melissa sue anderson is best activ ever<333

  • Yes, she was great in this epi as well as other LHOP epi's such as "I'll Be Waving, As You Drive Away..."

  • poor Albert, he must be feeling awful!

  • I'm sure. he didn't mean to cause any harm. It was just a careless mistake. But I'm sure this incident must've haunted him for a long time after, if not the rest of his life.

  • One of many Albert seemed to make..

  • @grodolina Albert sure didn't mean for this to happen. :(

  • @ImRightHere13 That part really shows it's better to talk to your family. Poor Albert feels so guilty and sure that what he's done is unforgivable that he runs away never telling anyone what's been eating at him. When they realize, nobody blames him. They know it was an accident. Our minds can make things much worse than if we give loved ones a real chance to react.

  • I felt sooooooooooooo sorry for Mary. Melissa did an unbelievably great job!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Agreed! : )

  • Melissa Sue Anderson should have gotten an award for her performance in this episode!

  • Totally!

  • I still remember being shocked that they killed off a major major character.

  • Mary suffered so much, from going blind, to losing their first and second child.

  • Yes, it had to be very hard on her going through so much at such a young age.

  • Albert never meant to start that fire. Yes it was careless, but it wass an accident. Mary's screams were terrifying as she was screaming for her baby.

  • So true...

  • Doesn anyone have the episode where they found albert? please i want to watch that

  • I belive the LindSay980 will be uploading the epi soon, here, on Youtube.

  • As Long As We're Together, and No Place Like Home. I think No Place like Home.

  • Yeah- in fact, Andy goes to stay with the Ingalls for a while because he gets scared of him. Charles then has to go over to convince him that she wouldn't have wanted him to act that way.

    What an episode. Just gut-wrenching.......

  • I have that epi posted on my channel. It is the only epi I have from LHOP seson 4.

  • So sad, I feel so bad for Mary. Andrew and Mr. Garvey as well. What a tragic episode

  • Very sad indeed... :(

  • I feel bad for everyone. Not just Mary but her whole family suffered a loss when the baby died and of course the Garveys when Alice died. But not just Andrew and Mr. Garvey, everybody who was friends with Alice as well. It's a double loss that everyone shares as a whole. How tragic :(

  • This is probably one of the saddest Little House episodes.

  • where's the episode where mary goes blind?

  • her eyesight starts to fail in foureyes.

  • You're right. That's when she gets her first pair of glasses and all the kids start teasing her.

  • I'LL BE WAVING AS YOU DRIVE AWAY

  • Mary really scared me when she was screaming like that.

  • Poor Mrs.Garvy

  • With all the crappy things that have happened to this girl over the years....she was bound to snap at some point

  • You have a point after aftershock71. Mary has been a through a lot and at such an early age. First she went blind and then she loss her baby. That's a lot for one person to have to endure... :(

  • aww poor mr garvy :( doc baker is so nice

  • Yeah, I really felt sorry for Andrew and Mr. Garvey during this epi too. They truly endured a tragic experience... :(
