QT mentions his Christmas Eve plans, and apparently this was an episode that (though filmed in advance) was AIRED on Christmas. The audience (who presumably knew that they were supposed to pretend this was really Christmas Eve) were laughing because QT inadvertantly ruined it. So Letterman was trying to (joking, obviously, since the jig was clearly up) keep the illusion going that no, no, this really is after Christmas Eve!

Because they filmed the show before Christmas, but it was going to air the day after Christmas. He broke the established illusion by saying, "Christmas Eve, I'm gonna have dinner with my mom..." For the purposes of the show, Christmas Eve was 2 days ago. In reality, it was upcoming. Either way, no boo was needed and the guy was a jackass. Tarantino was just answering the question honestly.

I guess this is fairly well-known now, if you ever went to the Letterman show and watched it later on TV you will notice that the audience reaction is often altered. like all these shows they have applause signs and people on the side who act like cheerleaders but the audience doesnt always follow those prompts.
