  • Great underground band , a masterbass player plus a mortal drum and sax

  • LONGA LIVA DI MANO

  • На русском что-то записей маловато. Чувствую, что кроме меня этог не кому больше сделать. Могу сказать одно: просто!!! слушаемо!!! и ТАЛАНТЛИВО!!!

  • My only regret in life is that I never will see the greatest band on earth live.

  • By now I think about 5,000 of these views are mine.

  • hahahahahah! 6:19!!!!

  • You still speak my language.

Morphine is great music for a bruised soul.

  • One dislike means only one deaf person. :D

  • A two string bass played with a slide, the best sax player on earth, and a mighty drummer. That's not a bad combination. Anyone know what tuning Mark used?

  • @237KMT D and A one step up. I have the Sandman tribute bass and I use this tuning.

  • Rock at its basic and its best. RIP Mark. No one came close to your enthusiasm for GOOD rock.

  • Simplesmente GENIAL!

  • One portuguese word for Mark "SAUDADES"! I had the honour to see them live in Lisbon in 1995! Brilliant, mythic and from awesome musicians!

  • @777mt i am truely jealous

  • my faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaave omg genius, mark sandman

    rip

  • my faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaave omg genius, mark sandman

  • fuck yes!

  • I met them @ horde fest 98' they were as interested in who my friend and I were as we were them. Was so awesome.

  • i had the good fortune to see morphine play in small clubs around boston. this video captures just how good the band was live. the energy from the crowd at a local show was much, much higher, though. you could tell mark and the guys loved playing for their fans and the fans loved 'em back. many loyal fans so many years later is a real testament.

  • they are truly an amazing live band

  • I call this 2 for 1 baby!

  • So cool!!!

  • Reminds me so much of my youth... The (beginning of) 90's were really something special. Too bad I never got to see Morphine :(

  • Reminds me such much of my youth... The (beginning of) 90's were really something special. Too bad I never got to see Morphine :(

  • Holy crap. This is cool. I've always wondered what that bass looked like. Why was I not informed?

  • Best live performance on youtube right here.

  • @askhewhoknows agreed----also checkout vid by jethro tull ---"my god"

  • please check out the KICKSTARTER page for CURE FOR PAIN!

    go to Kickstarter and #cureforpain

  • wouu its so wonderful!

  • Both of these performances are just phenomenal. Nothing else sounds like Morphine, either. GREAT stuff!

  • Check out Monkeys of White Glove!!

We play some covers of morphine with unusual instruments like tuba. It's our beggining. We hope that you enjoy it :D

  • it happens the same to me, the fact is that they dont want to understand

  • Increíble!

  • Maaan I adore the drums sound at the beginning!

  • Damn happy I saw these guys in NYC back in the day (Like Swimming tour, I think), at the time I didn't figure it would be the last time....

  • God that drum beat they open with just kills me.

  • thats an amazingly full sound for a live 3 piece

    morphine are brilliant

  • You wanna know how to tell great music in this day and age? When guys can stand behind their mic, hardly move and not look particularly flashy and BLOW YOUR ****ING HEAD OFF. Music that stands on it's own merits. No flash, no pomp, no compensating for lack of integrity with flash and showmanship. Just the music selling itself. THIS was Morphine. My own personal obsession for 10 years running, and no sign of slowing down.

  • @SCROGY Amen, my friend. It stays in my CD player everyday, Morphine and Treat Her Right. Long live Mark Sandman's influence...

  • @crimson6858 I'll tell you something else. There is not enough material from this band in the form of live shows and unreleased tracks for me. I would give my left nut (I would, no word of a lie) to have a massive box set with bonus tracks, a couple DVD's of live shows and performances and some goodies like a nice book, posters, rare photos etc. When I realize that such a great band will never perform again I feel I need something to help me cope with the loss.....;_;

  • @SCROGY i agree whole-heartedly. for years i've been looking for "candy" live....totally disappointing.

  • @crimson6858 Hopefully the Mark sandman movie will be great. I know I will be there to see it the day it comes out.

  • the face at 2:30 is pretty funny looking, but still awsome in all its glory! haha

  • you speak my lingo gringo !

  • great footage from this awesome band!

  • Mark Sandman fuckin rules!!

  • I think the main riff of Honey White is one of the most amazing riffs in rock ever! and Morphine is such an underrated band, hard to believe they aren't as famous as, say, Nirvana or RHCP...

  • Great song, period

  • My girlfriend doesn`t understand Morphine... no matter what, she doesn´t get it... I think, and maybe ím wrong, but this a "male band", If any girl thinks i´m wrong, then, i´m in love with you girl... so give me your phone or your email...i mean it....

  • @FEDE541 haha :D you just found that girl, i'm in love with morphine and i get eargasms everytime i listen to them! most of my female friends think i have weird taste in music :/ how can people dislike something as good as this :S

  • @kliss90 I love those "eargasms"...! shall we dance?

  • @FEDE541 I'm female and I LOVE Morphine. What makes you think it's a "male band/" It's a "this is f*cking good music" band. :-D

  • @MassTwingles It was only my cheap literature, I know - and ím glad of it- that there are women who love this awesome band... greetings my friend!

  • @FEDE541 I love Morphine! LOVE, LOVE THEM! I am a girl 31, I don't think my husband would approve of me giving out my number though!

  • @laurenholify Oh, but I´m not jealous...

  • @FEDE541 I thin it's time to change girlfriend..Morphine is not only one of the best bands ever..it's the sexiest...

  • Who disliked this? I WILL KILL YOU!!!!!!!!

  • I got given this on CD when i was 16, I used to listen to it everyday on the way t college. They were great days, whenever I mumble too much or talk shit an people look at me like I'm a massive weirdo I think of the former track.

    Big Peas X

  • pedazo de banda!!! inimitables, originales, potentes,... joer... anda que no he flipao con ellos!!!

  • anyone can you answer this??? How many strings is he playing on??? is it normal for him in concert to pop bass strings?

  • @RevWrona sandman started with one string and worked up to two......less is moore.....lol

  • @RevWrona 2 strings - he didn't need more to do what he did and so he only used 2 :)

  • awsome drumming!!!

  • With respect to some other greats like Sublime and Led Zeppelin, this was the greatest band ever. I'm a metal head to the tune of All the Remains and Whitechapel, but these guys make me feel a whole different kind of adrenaline. I'm very sad that I did not know of these guys in my younger years. Speak my Language has become my favorite song to drive fast to....RIP Mark.

  • @LD25Delta9 his lyrics are the only ones that spoke to me directly totally weird i even had chicks like shelia

  • Again, Thank You!

  • Morphine was awesome. However, I'm disheartened by so many people agreeing that everything from AC/DC sounds the same. Part of truly loving music is not comparing bands that kick ass. Figure out who sucks and let me know.

  • gah i love morphine

  • "you speak my language" Awesome!!

love the drum, fascinating guitar/singer Mark Sandman.

    absolutly my favourite!

  • This band's great! I'm mostly into 60s & 70s, but the 90s keep popping up pleasant surprises like this one.

  • RIP Sandman! you are a master!!!

  • I think mark is singing into a harmonica mike, which has a punchy distorted sound.

also if you look at those dark, hollow circles around his eyes you can tell...theres prolonged use of something. combined with sleeping too little or too much...

  • @psychicguitar It was actually a taxicab company's dispatcher's microphone. Mark used to drive a cab.

  • @zuzisphere ....and thats exactly what the original harmonica mic was. a taxi cab dispatcher mic

  • Great share! I never got to see them perform live.

  • When the word cool still really meant cool!

  • my favourite band!!

  • mark sandman is a fucking god among men.

  • GREAT!!!

  • will always be one of my fav bands

  • Everyone here who likes Morphine is speaking my language!

    RIP Mark Sandman.

  • @RogerWaters95 we're speaking the same language!

  • @RogerWaters95 Amen i said!

  • P-O-W-E-R-F-U-L!!!

  • Just Great. Morphine are one of my favorite bands. Rip Mark!

  • yes! such a shame! RIP MARK SANDMAN!!!

  • SOOO GREAT... ! we love Morphine in Argentina

  • hay que fomentar el conocimiento de Morphine, es una banda increible y mucha gente no la conoce... yo almenos ya empeze a intentarlo

  • Got to see these guy's a few times, living near Boston and all! These guy's never got the recognition they deserved!

  • Damn! DAMN! Why Im I so young and he died so soon?! Wanna see LIVEEEEEEEEE....!

  • Yeah, it's a real shame. I just found out about them. However, Dana Coley's in another band, Twinemen, that's very similar and exciting. He does vocals sometimes and is very faithful to the Morphine sound. You might look into catching them if they happen to play a show or two

  • Thanks,Im gonna check it :)

  • kind of annoying camera work....

  • Amazing!Just two strings...Imagine with four!R.I.P. Mark.

  • Well, you have to consider that by removing two strings Mark forced himself to be creative. If he had simply played with four he might never have found the inspiration to be so original. Sometimes in music, restricting your option FORCES you to be more open minded with respect to creativity. Removing the strings gave Mark a reason to be minimalistic, but unique in his song writing and his approach to the bass. This is essential to the progress of all forms of art.

  • Excellent comment- I completely agree.

  • thanks.

  • Random facial expression at 6:20!

  • RIP Sandman, we miss you more than it is possible to say

  • I think it would be sweet to see some kind of one time concert in honor of Mark with Les at the mic.

  • have you seen the video of les claypool guest appearing on honey white?? sooo awesome!!!

Mark Sandman was an innovator and a true musician...i love every morphine cd released as well as his solo act

  • No but I have a live performance of Primus with Dana Colley on Sax during Here Come The Bastards.....I have to see that video you speak of. Damn!

  • No. That would be sweet. Is it on youtube?

  • That would be VERY cool! Wouldnt be quite the same but I think ytou and I and everybody else can agree when I say it would be the "next best thing" to Mark himself. give me your thoughts people, thumbs up, or down

  • These guys melded something beautiful ..

and truly rocking is it to early to hope.... for a re-forming

in tribute and forward charge of the band ..

in the honor of the original singer

    IE-

    Minutemen>Firehose

  • ahhh i just got good the other day its so geatr it helps take a bass player like myself to so many new levels

  • Isnt it crazy to think he only played with two strings! AMAZING!

  • I know its so awesome!! what a creative dude. The Sandbox box set is awesome too!

  • Surreal.

  • one of my favorite bands growing up, my dad used to listen to them live, bought the cds n got me hooked! so sad =(

  • Just got into Morphine ! I cant believe how late I am .Morphine has a low down dirty powerful sound that I still cant believe! Awesome band.......found them through Les Claypool cause he always talks about the band with such love plus he says that he misses Mark a lot.

  • Too bad he's dead... T______________T

  • what microphone is mark using in the first song?

  • Same kind as Les Claypools second mic, Ive just heard it called a bullet mic

  • Morphine, you speak my language...

  • Comment removed

  • I have loved Morphine for at least 13 years . . . I was lucky enough to see them a few times before Mark died . . .RIP M ~ gone but not forgotten

  • That drum opening is one for the ages.

    RIP Mark.

  • fak. this sounds as good and is as awesome as portishead in nyc. is there a dvd of this show? or a full recording? jeeesh. not likei'm ever gonna catch em live...

  • best band ever? possibly. morphine is the soundtrack to every city night - the lonely ones and the busy ones. i don't know why, but their music just takes me to those places. RIP mark :(

  • I can't argue. There is something about their music that is both down and dirty yet sophistocated at the same time. Hip and incredibly ground breaking while refusing to be corporate or commercial.

  • Yeah, it just feels so visceral, so baritone. Truely unique, there will never be another Morphine. RIP Mark

  • in-frikkin-credible! thanks.

  • Essa banda é uma das melhores de todos os anos 90! Se não for a melhor!! adoro!

  • These guys just DO NOT have a bad song... Incredible band!!!!!

  • Great footage!

  • y donde podria encontrar algun directo en el q canten rope on fire y the night?

  • he's speaking my language

    incredible

  • You Speak My Language is from Morphine's 1992 album "good". It was my first album of theirs and remains my favorite.

  • Well, let's face it, there's no such thing as a Morphine album that isn't good. Yes, Cure For Pain, The Night.....Got 'em and I LOVE every single one of 'em. I just need to get Good and Like Swimming, and their live stuff now.

  • You should check "Sandbox - Music of Mark Sandman", too. Enjoy. Long time Morphine fan: Ifats.

  • Sweet. I have No Reason on my ipod.

  • What album is You Speak My Language from? I am ashamed to admit that I have't got the entire Morphine discography even though they are my favorite band.

  • I think they're everybodies favorite band after you hear one song. lol.

  • true :)

the first one i heard was 'the saddest song'. still one of my favourites. but i like all of their albums, morhpine made fantastic music only.

  • First song I heard was Potion. Then I believe after that, it was You Look Like Rain, then Take Me With You...<3 Still my favs.

  • Point! My first one was "Buena," and yep, that's exactly how it went down.

  • SIX stars, man

  • Increibles....Mark eres el mas grande !!!!

  • naseau inducing camerawork - why the fuck can't they keep one angle for more than 2 seconds arghhh

  • two string bass... amazing...

Mark Sandman (arenero) is the best one

  • Right on. I just plugged some Morphine into my car stereo this week and been digging the bass lines. Thanks for pointing out he plays with two strings. Wonder what he tunes to and how he stays in tune. Love this sound.

  • I think it was an A and a 5th above, but idk if he tuned the D up to an E, or just used an E where the D would be

  • 3 people on stage with the power of 300. This was morphine!!!

  • SHIT! I just realized freaking collective soul covered this on blender.....

  • Excellent!!

  • Perfeito...

  • Muito legal!!!! So cool!!!!!!!!!!!

  • what was great about morphine is all of their songs sounded very similar, but not the kind of similar where all the songs sound the same. they definitely had a sound, but not a repetitive one like bands such as ac/dc

  • I agree! Their timbre is easily recognizable.

  • @gotbass7 Well D is the key of Morphine =D

  • Mark Sandman brought through a most incredibly death defying haze and I feel feel feel real sad and glad at the same idenitcal time each and every life living its own space and place matter now...

    Mark Sandman! RIP...

  • Any words are just a waste, but total genius.

  • thanks so much for posting this.

  • Totally agreed! they are best RIP mr. sandman

  • This is cooler than any ten bands combined. Jesus these guys rule!!!! Original, ground breaking, amazing song writing and playing and a legacy that CAN'T be tarnished with repetitiveness and a loss of innovation. It hurts that he's gone, but he'll never become a self parody or irrelevant. RIP Sandman. TBQH I think they still had a couple great albums left in them and probably a LOT more recognition by the mainstream media.

  • two-string bass badassery for the win!

  • Merveilleux !

  • Saw these guys a bunch mid 90's. This is just what I remember. Cool dudes to talk to, as well. Mark talked with us a bunch before a show at Variety Playhouse in Atlanta, and invited us out with him for drinks after. Twas a great night.

  • Some crazy shit, just FUCKING LOVE IT.

  • Can't get enough of this band! Thanks so much for another great post!! I wonder what we'd be seeing from this band now if Mark was still around?

  • marvelous

  • Thanks for video!

  • Estou abismado! Incrível...

  • **** ing AWESOME!!!!!!! Thanks for posting.

  • yeaaah RULES!!!!

  • morphine speak my language.. love them.. thank you!

  • fantastic, yes! awesome stuff you got behind 007

  • Yeah this is great! Anymore Morphine vids????
