I had a total seizure and pulled this out of my memory, and then someone mentioned the cassette tape, and then i checked itunes and OHMYGODITSONiTUNES! Best 6 pounds I ever spent.
I just seen this episode today . last time I seen it, it came out in 1982 when I was 12 yrs old. My sister sang this in the junior high talent show. great memories
@JessicaMidnight Yes she was, she played Ariel, the pastors daughter. Totally different character. I liked her in fame better she played the cello. I think she sings pretty good. This song is so heartbreaking. That is exactly how I feel when I break up with someone. Footloose was a good movie with a good story line.
Fame is still one of these shows that make my heart jump. I am almost 41 y.o. and I feel privileged that I had the chance to see and hear these guys being a teenager.
It's funny - I was at my peak (ish) when this song was out - its almost 30 years ago, I have to lie down, I feel old - I'm only 41. however I have wonderful memories of this song - I can still smell the air - beautiful memories, simple song - forever young.
What memories! i know she's not the greatest singer and she never made out that she was. But I think her vocals suit the song and add to the vulnerability of the track. Nice one Lori considering you were only really there to play the chello!
I used to love Fame and had a bit of a crush on Lori Singer, however I remember this episode where she was heart-broken and Bruno gave her this song, but what happened to the 2nd verse?:
For those who are dissing the singing - Lori Singer's character was there for her cello abilities... not her singing. Plus, if you had seen this episode, she said she wasn't a "singer" before the song started... but it was a song that Bruno had written from a poem she'd written - so she was trying it out.
When Julie left the show, she didn't even get a leaving scene, just the other Fame kids finding out from her mother, she maried a body builder who Doris said had "no neck">
I'm the same, Im 37 and I was actually crying at Stargazer a few minutes ago!! My cousin and I used to do this one when asked to sing at family parties etc., I haven't sung it in years and I still know it! Brilliant memories!
I tried to explain the storyline, but it was too many letters - so I'll try to message it to you. If it's any help to jog your memory - it's the one with the Mannequin song at the end, and with the student teacher/journalist who tries to take advantage of Lori Singer's character.
I was 12 and thursday nights 8:00 highlight of my week, god they were the good old days. Such great memories. :-)

I still have the cassette.
Is it just me or this shows were way much better than "glee" and all those music things airing nowadays ?
I actually think all shows from that era were the best. Or maybe the fact that we were kids was the good part.
Lots of memories.
God, there's high fidelity !!!
