  • All your logic are belong to us.

  • god out of town in a vacation..he ll be back soon..dont question his existance..

  • god is nothing..we are nothing..there for god exist..

  • I been had Jesus.

  • How exactly can there be more macromolecules of DNA in the universe than there are atoms? Besides, he has the number of atoms wrong; it's about 10^80, which is much, much more than the 10^9 or so than he claims, or the 10^24 macromolecules of DNA there apparently are...

  • I am a biochemist and I assure everyone that this idiot has never picked up a science text book in his life

  • I've seen this so many times, and that part about DNA splattered through-out the universe gets funnier every time.

  • Everyone knows that if I make that claim that there's a magical green dragon in my garage, it'd be up to me to prove it; otherwise it's untrue. It's not up to everyone else to disprove it. Yet, this common sense completely vanishes when religious people talk about their own religion. All of a sudden, it's my job to disprove your god rather than your job to prove that he exist. This suspension of common sense is one of the reasons why religion is dangerous and should be discouraged.

  • That person may actually have some kind of psychological diagnosis or brain damage... makes the letter less funny I have to say

  • @faarsight yeah he thinks theres a god thats his psychological diagnosis or brain damage.

  • "Let's just bask in that visual, folks". Haha! Gold.

  • I. ARE, SIENTIZT!

  • No need to mock the mailer. Why even do this? Instead, try to encourage people to write letters to the show, not discourage them by mocking the grammar of the letter. Perhaps the mailer was a non-american.

I'm not saying you should not correct the mailer, just do it constructively.

  • Can i read that letter somewhere?

  • Matt Dillahunty... I love you!!.... No homo... Not that there's anything wrong with that... I'm going to stop now... o.O

  • "WE worry about your children and their future" hahah, well played, Martin.

  • KISS THE COW!

  • haha XD "Trillions to the second power of DNA splattered everywhere"

  • Ha Ha Ha! As soon as he kissed the cow, it keeled over. Matt has the kiss of death.

  • "There's the cow again." muah

  • Im sure some people have a serious problem with dyslexia, but IMHO, same with ADD, most who say or are "diagnosed" with these problems are just fucking lazy and stupid.

  • Hahaha! Funniest show ever!

  • I wonder what this has to do with "promoting positive atheism and the separation of church and state". Nothing I guess, just another "see how smart we are" ego massage.

  • No, it isn't. Lies can be challenged in a direct manner.

  • Sneering at those with literacy problems isn't good.

  • @sptfgpn is if they're downright liars.

  • @sptfgpn - It's entertaining. It shows how uneducated those people are who are writing them those letters.

  • @Critic863 That isn't a good way to conduct a debate. "Uneducated" people have as much right to an opinion as anyone else.

  • @sptfgpn - I never said they didn't. It just makes it much harder to take them seriously where there's countless grammatical and spelling errors.

  • @Critic863 It doesn't necessarily follow that it's acceptable to ridicule someone for the spelling and grammatical errors they've made.

  • @sptfgpn - Why isn't it acceptable? It's their television show. The solution to not being made fun of because of their errors is to not make the errors in the first place. Them being made fun of for it will cause them to be more cautious of their errors so they'll be motivated not to make them again.

  • @Critic863 Maybe they can't help it. It's not that easy for some people.

  • @sptfgpn - Anyone can help spelling and grammar. It just depends how much they want to help it.

  • @Critic863 I disagree. It's a serious problem that millions of people struggle with to varying degrees.

  • @sptfgpn - If he can type out words, then adding punctuation and using spellcheck shouldn't be too much of an addition.

  • @Critic863 It would be interesting to hear from someone with dyslexia to see if that would work for them. I, suspect not..

  • @sptfgpn - And what exactly are the odds that this person who wrote to them was dyslexic and not just plain lazy?

  • @Critic863 How is one to know? Why risk offending someone who might be trying their utmost?

  • @sptfgpn - Because the odds are in their favor.

  • @Critic863 You seem to be acknowledging that it would be unacceptable to ridicule the letter writer, if he was known to have dyslexia.

  • @sptfgpn Seriously? The big problem is not the atrocious grammar, but the content. Putting exclamation marks everywhere is a clear indicator that the writer has the language skills of a five-year-old. Also I think you are insulting dyslexic people by saying that they tend to write that hideously. They don't.

  • @silverstream314 I would never disrespect or insult anyone because they have dyslexia. There are enough people in the world doing that already.

  • @sptfgpn - Yes, but it's very unlikely that the person is dyslexic. You have no idea how many people nowadays are just too lazy to add punctuation or correct spelling/grammar. Especially when it comes to e-mails or any other form of communication over the internet.

  • wow , didn't know splatted was a scientify term , lulz

  • feel the power of moohamed

  • Atheism predates religion?? Epic...

  • "...facts to back up beliefs..."

Brilliant...just brilliant...an admission of indoctrination if ever there was one...

  • Once again, The Atheists win!

  • wow they gotta make fun of just about everyone!

  • You can hear the people in the booth laughing throughout. This guy's DNA count is a splattered trillion to the power of OVER 9000!!!!

  • I've always wondered why do believers tend to use "atheist" as plural. I guess it comes with the mental disability package.

  • i ar an sientist!!!

  • What would He-man say if he was a christian?

"I have the second power of DNA!"

  • That's gotta be a troll e-mail.

  • "To the second power of DNA"

    O

    M

    F

    G

  • If this guys email did one thing, it forced into my mind the image of Earth shooting a massive DNA load all over the cosmos. I think that's a rare accomplishment in itself.

  • @F33bs ironically that gave me a boner....

  • exclamation point!

    lulz :)

  • So we have two overweight males, sitting and picking apart another person's grammar, whilst both of them fail to account for the fact that the vast majority of the planet believes in a god of some sort. Well...bravo, I guess. you've proven that you can make jokes. Scoff all you want, because as far as your ideology is concerned, you're destined for dirt, and nothing but it!

  • @kungfujellybean So YOU sent that email? Hilarious! Keep them coming!

  • @kungfujellybean Fail to account for the fact that the vast majority of the world is theist? I've never seen them deny this. In fact, they usually acknowledge it handily, albeit with a soft scowl on their faces. I also got a kick out of you telling them what their ideology is, that was a good joke. It was a joke, right?

  • @kungfujellybean And you are destined for greatness?

  • @spiderpig85 Well, that was never my plan. I humbly hope that God Almighty will grant me the opportunity to make due in this life. I've been led, to a surplus of work as of late, and I can't be more thankful to my God. Bless you, my brother.

  • @kungfujellybean I sincerely appreciate your thought behind that 'blessing', but if you truly believe in Christianity, give all your surplus to the homeless and the unfortunate, for that is Christianity. The problem I have with Christians is that none of you live by the ideals that your deity, Jesus Christ, advocated. You are a hypocrite.

  • It's obvious that this person does not speak English as a first language or that they used an online translator.

  • @baeritukaez

Lol not really. Most Americans (and I'm not generalising) have really poor literacy skills.

That's what you get from playing xbox all day long.

  • @dycarbon1, i got literate from playing games online. kinda funny

  • @dycarbon1 I disagree. Video games can easily make a great, positive impact of reading and complex thinking skills, at least in learning children. I attribute much of my advancement in school to the things I learned while playing video games. Kids playing video games are reading, solving puzzles, doing math, etc., much more than kids participating in most other hobbies. IMO, so many are illiterate, because our educational system is slacking.

  • I refuse to believe that a human being can be this stupid.

  • Oh believe it, I used to live in a town full of people like this.

  • @calmbluewaters Really?! Is that in America?

  • @BeforeTheNoose: Yep! Washington state no less! It was a very very small town. Remember, we're the country that has a very popular "creationist museum".

  • @Experiment47

u got a lot to learn, son.

  • @Experiment47 there creationists, our common ancestor with chimps lol i couldnt resist

  • oh wait i read KingofNH's comment below. ya, definately not a scientist.

  • maybe this scientist is from a really messed up third world country?

  • Wel, I am from a third world country and let me tell you that in his third world country, people is not even near the degree of religious stupidity and blind faith of the USA, your great first world country, ruled by silly christians.

  • Problem is, many of the claims of religion have been debunked (by science). So clearly, religion *isn't* sitting on the mountaintop with all the answers already.

    It only *thinks* it is.

  • Are you the author of the letter Matt have read ? Just to know...

  • @sungl0

"a self-righteous and non-objective bunch of self -appointed guardian of Truth.." A perfect description of priests

Scientific theories, Principles of Truth? What are you talking about?

That scientific knowledge is altered by new evidence is what makes it science, not dogma; observation & seeking knowledge

Compare: "I've got this bronze age book... Oh wait, this part has been disproved. And this.. and.. Er, ok, that's metaphor then but the REST of it is literally true!"

  • This letter had to be a joke. There's no way that the guy who wrote the letter is that stupid.

  • Come now, you've been on YT for over 3 years. You *know* people can be that stupid.

  • You give to much credit to idiots and the absolute deepness of their stupidity... ^^

  • A helping hand for creationists:

If you are going to pretend to be a scientist, LEARN SCIENTIFIC NOTATION. "Trillions to the second power" is a dead giveaway you are a liar, and not an ESL immigrant. Math is a global language.

  • ...ah sed ahza 'sine-tayist' cuz ah myks sines on tay shurts doan atchda feed stoor...

  • ...i think a drunken rant by someone who got a c- in hagh skuul bollogee

  • creationist: I am god, do what i tell you

evolutionist: We know all forces of nature and trace the universe to 10 e-45 seconds after the big bang. We create big bangs in colliders. We saw a god no where.

creationist: But there could be. You dont know everything. Now do everything i tell you or i ll have you killed for heresy.

NEVER. F4ck 4LL you CREATIONISTS. Shove it!!

  • amazingly this guy is probably one of the intellectual heavyweights of the creationist world

  • what is the email address so i could send my letters too. Because im a big atheist.

  • Pointing out someone is lying is not an ad hominem attack. I don't think they're too concerned about engendering sympathy from theists. They in fact do debunk his claims, even though his writing clearly shows that he is not what he claims he is. They even mention Gb Shaws line, which I love.

  • I don't disagree that the writer put himself out there to ridicule but they should have acknowledged the fact and left it at that.

They undermine their own arguments (far superior to those of the writer) by relying on ad hominem attacks.

They would have engendered more sympathy for their cause had they simply addressed the idea that someone with such credentials should be able to express his/her ideas more clearly.

They shouldn't have reinforced the stereotype of the know-it-all atheist.

  • Well, they have the right to make their show entertaining, and if it means making fun of someone confidentially in the process, I don't see the harm. I mean the people who call up could be in wheelchairs.

  • If their callers are in wheelchairs, they don't ridicule them for it, they just ridicule their arguments. Why should they ridicule this person for anything other than their arguments?

And if they ridiculed the callers FOR being in wheelchairs would that be entertainment as well?

This is just sophistry on both of our parts but I don't find stereotype-advancing pomposity nearly as entertaining as forthright debate that acknowledges and moves past the one sides shortcomings.

  • Could you point out any ad hominem arguments they made?

  • No I can't. I used the term ad hominem in a less specific way than you indicate; in that they attacked him more for his grammar and spelling than for his logic. In retrospect, I probably shouldn't have used that term and apologize for any resulting confusion but my point remains the same.

I'm certainly not defending the guy who wrote in. I think he is disingenuous and wrong but these guys had an opportunity to show that the atheist world view rises far above mockery and they blew it.

  • An ad hominem is attacking someones character instead of making an argument. If you have arguments and on top of that also point out character flaws it's not an ad hominem.

An ad hominem would be saying to someone "You're wrong because you're an idiot" but you can say "You're wrong because of ... And you're also an idiot" and that wouldn't be an ad hominem because the insult doesn't replace an argument.

  • Did you read my last post?

    Do so now.

    Yeah.

  • That sounds about right, but the Ad Hominem is better explained with a small story.

Two people are walking next to a river, both of them want to get to the other side of the river but there isn't any obious solution.

These people are a man and a woman, one's a christian and the other is an atheist.

The woman suddenly comes up with an idea. She shares her idea with the man.

He shoots that idea down with "That idea will never work because you're a (Blah/woman)".

    Here the person is attacked.

  • Yes, that's a good example of what an ad hom is but I think it's equally important for people to know what's not an ad hom.

If the man had said "You're an idiot, that idea won't work because we would crash into the water and get taken by the currents" then it wouldn't be an ad hom since the insult didn't replace the argument for why the woman was wrong.

  • By adding the reason why it wouldn't work, he's no longer attacking the person who is pushing the idea, but pointing out the flaws in the idea.

Explaining on how to correct logical fallacies is a good idea....

Proper identification and being able to rebuke logical fallacies is very important, we should make a video about it.

  • I don't believe for a second that the writer was a foreign scientist....

What the hell would a scientist from another country, with barely a grasp of English, be doing watching a cable access show from America?

Personally I think its just a religious goofball... the US if filled with them, also there are a lot of folks here that are *quite* illiterate.

  • Yes, Nihm. Illiterate and totally unacquainted with spelling and rudimentary punctuation.

Must be all that "hoem skooling."

  • I'm an English professor and I couldn't agree more. I think they have good things to say but I wouldn't have thrown those mistakes in the writer's face like that.

  • They really are not throwing it in the writers face (if you are referring to the vid). I say this because they are not calling out the person by name. They are simply picking him apart because he is trying to use his education level to establish credibility in his argument. If one is to use their level of education to establish ones credibility, then they have fully gave permission for that claim to be scrutinized along with the argument. Peace out my Irish bro.

  • Why not? He deserved it.

  • What if he's Spanish and wrote a very eloquent argument but put it through a translation site for the benefit of Matt?

What if he's a brilliant philosopher who was in a terrible car accident and the resulting brain trauma caused damage to his Wernick's Area or gave him Broca's Aphasia?

As free thinkers, we should do better than assuming stupidity no matter how likely.

A learned atheist must admit that they can't prove the absence of God. Why should they judge human's more harshly?

  • Thing is: we atheists are not the ones who make positive claims about deities; we therefore don't have the burden of proof.

  • I agree with you. I don't think I've argued against that point and if I did it was inadvertent and I apologize.

My contention is that they could have made less of a big deal about his spelling, punctuation, etc. I listed a few possible, although improbable, reasons for such sloppy wording and I would have respected them even more than I already do had they made that less of an integral part of their counterargument.

  • @leporidus yet you need TV shouting down to believers. Insecurity at its greatest

  • @leporidus Actully you atheists do have to prove more than christians do. You have to prove that god did not create everything around us, including us. Actully I don't even why i am bothering to say anything to you atheists because you'll just try to say something back that i have to prove wrong again.

  • @DryHeeves So Christians don't have to prove anything? It's up to atheists to prove a negative?

  • @DryHeeves BULLSHIT. Don't play Shockofgod here, you'll be destroyed.

  • @DryHeeves No, YOU have to prove that God DID create everything, and you would have to start by proving that God exists in the first place.

  • @Makingnewnamesisdumb Well put. And nice name. :D

  • @Crunchy68 Thanks. You have a nice name, too, but you look like you'd be more chewy than crunchy.

  • I agree. Play the ball guys , not the man

  • like a really bad fan fiction

  • Who knew ee cummings was a creationist? :-P

  • lol I'm thinking this has to be a prank letter

  • he probably is from another country

but that doesn't change the fact that he says stupid crap

grammar doesn't matter here its what he is trying to say that makes him stupid

  • Yup, another country.

You're from outside the U.S., right?

  • maybe a texan creationist

  • this is def a prank

  • Haha, the writer thinks there are more DNA strands than atoms

  • zz..They are just immature. The dude that wrote this might not have been from an english-speaking country. Have some manners

  • So therefor he's unable to capitalize and punctate?

  • ".They are just immature. The dude that wrote this might not have been from an english-speaking country. Have some manners "

So people who can't speak English don't know the basic rules of punctuation, to start sentences with a capital and to use paragraphs? Also that doesn't detract from the content of the letter which in itself is moronic.

"if big bang is correct then god is the impact of two asteroids"

People who don't like their beliefs being laughed at shouldn't have such funny beliefs

  • christ you are missing the whole point. It was not his grammar nor language that really mattered in this discussion since the topic was about atheism not a spelling competition so it was therefore totally irrelevant to bring that up.

  • "...not a spelling competition so it was therefore totally irrelevant to bring that up."

Its not totally irrelevant though. If someone has the grammatical ability of a 4 year old, and isn't one, then it provides some notion of the sort of intellect you're dealing with. Quite frankly if you write into a TV prog, lie in your letter, and over use the already diluted "!" then what do you expect? Respect isn't a default, it has to be earned and the author certainly hasn't earned any...continued..

  • ..continued...People who go around moaning about others being "rude" is also a personal annoyance. You have the right to feel offended and thats where your rights end. I notice you don't think that the authors' statement...

"atheism is a belief just as satanism is..belief in ones self!"

...is rude. I also noticed you don't seem to be offended that this guy is most certainly lying in order to try and further his point.

  • "Scientist" can refer to so many positions.. It'd be nice to know what sort of scientist that writer is.

  • Bad grammar and spelling don't make someone an idiot.

What makes this person a PROFOUND idiot is the UNBELIEVABLE DELUSION that he could convincingly claim to be a "scientist."

Conclusion: religion ever waits, with open arms, to welcome the stupid, ignorant, and deluded....

OTOH, if you wish to have a serious interest in science you MUST give up most delusions, you MUST dispel much of your ignorance, and you DO have to shape up your thinking skills....

  • "...you MUST give up most delusions, you MUST dispel much of your ignorance..."

or at least be willing to admit they could be wrong. you can hold them, as long as you still follow the evidence.

for example, kepler believed certain shapes played a roll in the universe (the perfect polygons, or whatever). he eventually found out that they did not explain what he saw, so he went with the evidence. he still wanted them to apply, and tried to find a way, but he did not let it change his result.

  • Right, but Kepler's "mistake" as you describe it was not stupidity, ignorance OR delusion....it was simply a wrong hypothesis. ACCEPTING that one starts with hypotheses in science, which aren't much more than guesses, is something positive about science. It's an ADMISSION that we don't KNOW, but that we're starting out, at best, with an "educated" guess about things.

There's NOTHING like that in religion. Statements are simply handed down as absolute, inviolable truth--from the start.

  • I think using two periods after a sentence basically entails that this guy is either an idiot of the most easily identifiable case of poe's law I know.

  • it does if they cant click on the spellcheck button!

    ........

  • No way, that is a fake Email. It is too good/stupid to be true! Like the other with the banana that proofs the existence of god.

I think just in this moment someone sits at home and is laughing his ass off. :-D

  • I think they did that because the person also claimed to be a scientist. Scientists should be educated enough to write better than that. As well as if you can use a computer well enough to send an email you can use spell check.

  • How you present an argument is relevant, and repeated problems with the English language decreases credibility.

  • Dude, in science and argumenting.... YOU HAVE TO BE EXTREMELY ACCURATE!!!!! if not, then you have SHIT!... sorry, Science only accepts the accurate..

  • Ok if we have to accurate; correct your grammer. lol

  • Dude, am i doing science atm? Nooooeeez i am not! I was explaining that in order to make sience that is acceptable, you have to use very accurate explainations and observations.....

oh and its spelled: Ok, if we have to BE accurate......

like mirror your lol back RAWFLMAW!

But dear friend, your channel states United Kingdom, they actually speak english there, you should be able to remember you own Grammer? :D

Sorry m8, you have just failed abit there :D

  • Trillion to the 2nd power??? what the f...k is that??? damn, this guy surely is brilliant.

  • No body gives a shit what any of you think and if your a christian dont come to an Atheist site.

  • thats not a good attitude.

I usually encourage people to read their bibles, quran's, torahs, vedas and sutra's because it shows how childish those stories are.

  • YOUR piss me of.

  • cause you suck

  • why they just use words, with a strong faith mere words shouldent matter?

  • No but science should.

  • why do atheists piss you off feh?

  • lol texas is the last place I'd expect an atheist show to be

  • Yeah.. :p I wish this show was in Norway.

There are so many jackasses here that only believes in christendom because they have never really thought about it being real or not, and the damn church is bringing kids into it AT SCHOOL several times every year.. And the non-christian kids gets looked at like outsiders when their parents are nice enough to let them stay home.

    Uuugh! Nitwits.

  • You have to remember that there is no seperation of church and state here, so the school can have all the religious celebration they want.

Did you hear about the atheists handing out earplugs to the children being forced to go to church? The priest commented to the papers; "It doesn't matter, we have really good microphones and speakers."

Playing the sermon loud enough to go through earplugs should be damaging enough to the kids to be ILLEGAL.

  • I think it's better that it's in Texas. It shows that even in the arsehole of reason there are intelligent, rational people.

  • Judging by your spelling, you're the dude who wrote the email aren't you? Makes sense.

  • well, you spelled don't wrong so...not very good to be honest.

  • 'backyard' is one word.

  • Owned.

  • first obama now this show, i'm beginning to like you americans

  • haha thanks! yea austin is the shit, they would have an atheist show lol :)

  • Lol.

  • I suggest all of you read the link to the actual letter, this person is a comedic genius.*sorry I meant !* I am still laughing. This is a person who believes the big bang states the universe was created by a collision of two asteroids, and then attempts disprove it by saying collision between asteroids happen all the time. Surely this a child. No center of learning could have an ignoramus of this caliber as a product of years of scientific research.

  • Maybe he's an economist.

  • lol, this is a letter from the man at the top of the American mortgage distribution center.
