You all are partly right and partly wrong. See covers are alright but you have to get permission until a certain point to do them. Back when elvis when sing another artists song who was usually black, he wouldn't ask permission, nor would the black artist get any credit for the song. That's, what made it wrong.

Fats Domino's Blueberry Hill is a cover, Ray Charles Georgia on my Mind is a cover, Chubby Checker's The Twist is a cover to just name a few. Little Richard even did cover songs on his albums. Tutti Frutti is a reworked song based on Slim and Sam's 1938 song Tutti Booty. Listen to Richard's Good Golly Miss Molly piano intro- then listen to Rocket 88 by Jackie Brenston..
