  • #1. end of story.

  • From Rock royalty we now moonwalk... Gee, I wonder who #11 could be.

  • Layne Is a God

  • could layne sing slaves and bulldozers? ...not a chance

  • C'mon guys. AIC and Soungarden are my 2 favorite bands. Cornell and Staley have different styles. Cornell has amazing control of his voice while Staley had a very unique sound all his own. I was lucky to see AIC in sept of '91 and Soundgarden last week in Lake Tahoe. My kids got to see the Soungarden play the songs live that I've had blasting in the car since they were little. They loved it!

  • UHHHH.....number 12....yeah fuck that how bout number fuckin 1!!!! Layne aint even close to Cornell vocally, lyrically, musically PERIOD!!!

  • layne staley is the greatest singer ever. NOBODY could or will ever will touch him

  • @jdmdoorsforever IA. i like Cornell, but Layne was more powerful b/c you could really feel his pain when he sang. Cornell did that only a few times for me, most notably Temple of the Dog. He sings beautiful on that album.

  • @jdmdoorsforever That's Chris Cornell.

  • Just wasted 2 minutes of my life I´m never going to get back....a list of greatest voices without Layne Staley on it?!!?

  • 2:22 the guys explanation for why Cochise is a great song is fucking retarded.

  • He's the best, everrr

  • best voice and best song writer ever

  • they could've used clips from "spoonman" and "jesus christ pose" to better show how loud and high he could go. the lower-pitched screams from "blow up the outside world" and "cochise" were pretty epic though.

and robert plant is a better comparison than jim morisson, though even plant wasn't quite as good as cornell imo. chris in his heyday was a better all-around vocalist than plant ever was.

  • Alright video. But they used a lot of stupid examples.

"Look at the way his voice just moves. . . up."

That bald dude was such an idiot.

  • chris cornell used to have it all... the looks, the lyrics and the voice

  • if he's #12 who the heck is #1...wait just read MAriah Carey WHAT!!!!

    typical mtv bullshit

  • @kingmojopin0 Since Soundgarden are soooo not mainstream, definitely less mainstream than Nirvana and Pearl jam I think the result is great! I mean it's MTV!!!

  • Man, that bald guy totally wants to bone him.

  • Cornell is legendary

  • Cool, thanks for posting!

  • he should be AT LEAST in the top ten, (I'd normally say top 5, but I'm a huge fan so I'm biased..) well.. then I saw Carey was #1... she can sing but she isn't that great, not even top 50. Not the best list, this one..

  • I'm looking at the full list now. Awful! Mariah Carey #1? Yeah, she can sing, but she's very annoying. Freddie Mercury isn't even on the list, neither is Layne Staley. Tupac I'll give 'em because he had a great voice for a rapper, but this list was awful.

  • Actually, Freddie is on the list. He's in 2nd place above Whitney and below Mariah.

  • Oh shit, completely missed him. LOL @ me.

  • Freddy mercury is 2nd or 3rd!!

  • Who was #1, Freddie?

  • I did like Chris Cornell's voice but Jeff Buckley's ability is untouchable, even Cornell comments about Buckley having an ability musically similiar to Hendrix's.

  • chris is simply the greatest rock singer that ever walked the earth and probably will b 4 a long time 2 come!

    live on chris!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • the top three were mariah carey, freddie mercury and whitney houston, which i agree with, but i think chris shouldve been 4th...his voice is incredible!!

  • Someone's never heard of Soundgarden... but I'm not going to say who.

  • Matt Pinfield is kind of an idiot, lol...

Then he goes on to say he told Chris not to stop making records...wonder how he feels now!

  • Was Jeff Buckley on this list? Cause to me he is one of the best singers ever.

  • @ghost037 he's not one of the best... he IS the best singer ever!!!

  • Thats what im talking about! agree totally, thanks for posting!!

  • ah... damn I don't feel so alone anymore in my "praise" of Cornell's amazing voice. No one around me understands they just nod there heads and say whatever, Im saying there a bunch of dumb deaf blind fucks. ha ha

  • LOL. They must be. He has one of the most amazing ranges and voice quality of any singer alive today.

Taye, have you ever heard of Jeff Buckley? If you like Cornell you WILL like Buckley. try "Dream Brother" for a start.

  • ha ha

    Yeah I know J. Buckley.

I was young but I first heard his stuff not too long after I got into Soundgarden. Temple of the dog & Seasons really got me into stuff like Jeff, I was "introduced" to him thanx to C.C.

Im sure you've heard it but "Wave Goodbye" By Cornell is amazing... As up and calming as the music seems to be the lyrics are wildly emotional and tragic

    Thats just Cornell.

  • I found Buckley while looking for rare and unusual Cornell tracks on Limewire years ago and loved him instantly.

I'm kind of an old bitch (in my 30's, haha) AND a Washingtonian so I've always loved the alternative scene. IMO Cornell is the best of the best.

  • Yeah Cornell was always great Im just not that into him anymore (his new stuff). I respect him for continuing and for constantly changing and chanllenging himself.

Seattle's great, and of coarse the music.

  • Hehe... Temple Of The Dog explains it all.

  • Poor song choice.

They should've shown off stuff like "Slaves and Bulldozers" and "Jesus Christ Pose" and "Beyond the Wheel".

They didn't even discuss his 4 octave range.

  • I know..of all the songs, they chose BHS and Fell on Black Days. Those songs, no matter how genius, seem mediocre compared to Loud Love, Nothing to Say, Beyond the Wheel, Birth Ritual...Anyway, CC's still the best along with Layne

  • FALSETTO?!

    Wrong!

It's head voice. Belted head voice.

    Get it right.

A chesty falsetto is what it's described as.

  • I would have sex with this guy and I am a married man...well not that far but he can sing his ass off!

  • Dude... Well, I'm not married, but I'm straight and I have a girlfriend... And I totally agree with you. My first ever concert was when he was in Project Revolution at the PNC Bank Arts Center this last Summer. He went out into the crowd during 'Black hole sun,' and I ran halfway across the arena, jumping over chairs, dodging people, jumped between a security guard and gave Cornell the biggest hug ever. I swear I'm straight. I just love him.

  • hahaha thats awesome!!!!!

  • I love this clip. The scream in Cochise is priceless. As Audioslave3 noted Chris has some of the best pipes in Rock. Like Plant and Mercury before more raw power in his voice. Even if Chris experiments with the Timbaland gig, he could still turn around next week and do another kick ass rock cd. In the spirit of many artists before him who went through experimental phases, let's give the guy some room to grow. As I believe Chris Cornell will always ROCK!

  • chris cornell is the greatest

  • Axl Rose Cooler? Better? Hahahahaha! C'mon!!! He just can't compare to Chris! For me the top 3 vocalists of all time are: Chris Cornell, Freddie Mercury and Robert Plant!!! All hail!

  • Even if you ignore CC's great voice, he would still beat Axl just on creativity alone.

Axl just writes about the same crap ACDC does, but really badly.

  • they both pretty much suck these days. chris has turned into a wussy with timbaland and axl is a pompous jerk wad. back in the day i would have chosen chris.

  • axl rose is just a sissy overrated version of janis joplin

  • he was until SCREAM album :( what a sellout. damn!!
