This is not a good range finder. Why? Because you can't read the distance when it pops up, too light not dark enough and it is also too small. Feel Free to test it out at a Cabelas near you.

Not doubting what you are saying, but is there a possibility that it might have been a defective one you tested, or are they all like they way you described.

If the only flaw is a weak display of the distance, then it might be worth emailing the company about it. I'm sure they'll appreciate info that contributes toward Rsearch and Development.
