How come their is all this hype about the " GSX-R's " ? and nobody I know ever talks about the SV ? Why is it the " cool " thing to get a GSX-R and not an SV ? it sucks that the SV isn't getting as much recognition as it should, its a great bike none the less, but is their any real difference between them both besides fairing' and more aggressive throttle response ?
@salchipapa8000: It's "cool" because the GSX-R's are called JIXSTERS. It has a name that people like to say. The SV does not. It's "just" SV. Fully faired, they look almost the same. It's all in the name JIXSTER. PPl like it.
@daylightdreamz: I've never heard it called a "gixxer" with a G sound like GIGA-BYTE. I've always heard it pronounced with a J sound like JIGGLE. Maybe it's different where you're from, but where I'm from, it's Jix-TER....not Gix-ER.
i am currently considering buying a sv650s 2000 model. just wondering how it is to drive? i have inly found reviews of the 2003 model, and the models that came after the 2003 model
I've been riding for quite some time now, and have been using a Ninja 650R for the last 2 years. I love the sound of a beefy V-Twin engine as well as the ample amounts of torque and mid-range ride-ability that twins offer, and don't really want to change to an I-4 despite all the good deals for various used I-4-based motorcycles. I'm curious if I should get an SV650, or if I can find a used SV1000 for around the same price point that I'm looking for, should I go with the 1000?

Why would anyone, other than a homosexual or female buy something like an SV650. They are very underpowered. The bike is very ugly, and resembles one of those junky italian ducaty bikes!
How would this be for a first bike, i get it is on the big side, but a 250 seems too small for living in a small town/ country. so im looking for something bigger.
I have owned my 07 SV650S now for 6,000 miles and I still come home from riding and immediately exclaim "I LOVE THIS BIKE!". It's a fantastic bike stock and I've heard how much better it gets when I work on the suspension this winter... you can't go wrong with an SV650.
i want this bike for my first bike in 1 month i would like to buy a black s one, but i want to pay 3400€ and then the bike has 14 000 km ist this good? or would you say dont buy it, im 19 in 26 days
I have 06 sv650s. All black with carbon look belly pan and frame sliders. Its got 9700km on the clock. And I am selling it for 3400euro! What a coincidence :D Bought it as a first bike. Now am looking for more powerfull one. Remember that sport can, belly pan and tail tidy are must have accesories!
Great bike, totally appeals to all kinds of riders and all types of riding.
Huge following, lots of aftermarket parts and easily transformed into very capable trackbikes.
The only weakness is its suspension, but that keeps it cheaper for those getting into riding. And it can be easily remedied by SS brake lines, heavier weight fork oil, emulators, or even a GSX-R front end that will swap in with minimal work.
Iv owned all sorts from vtr's to zx6r's to bandits and i must say that the little sv is the funnest bike I have ridden, I would own one without second thoughts
I had the SV650S as my first bike (2001). Stuck an 'M4' exhaust on it and it sounded wonderful. Would truly recommend one as a first bike. Handles and stops well and there's plenty enough power.
I really rate these, a good rider does not need 180bhp to go quickly on our UK roads. I could ride as fast on the SV as I could on my Aprilia Mille. I also found the SV far more roomy and hence more comfortable. As an all rounder its up there with the CBR600
@iamthefatstig Most rider's cannot use the power of their 1 litre bikes, or even their 600cc super bikes for that matter. In my experience 90% of them just want to say they have the power to win, in a straight line maybe. Get them on the bends and a good rider on a 250 can beat them. SV650 is an awesome bike, anyone that says overwise is probably a Noob. Havn't met an experienced rider yet that would say otherwise.
Your right addys however there aren't in my opinion any really great 250 sports bikes out there. You've got the ninja and thats about it for really good modern ones but that doesnt look great and is quite small!
Not these days no, the age of the 250cc superbikes like the ZX2R, FZR250 and CBR250 are long gone. I started on a VTR250. Not exackly a superbike, but a nice sporty 250 anyway. I did own an FZR250 for a while, but it was 16years old (still in great condition). But i agree, there is no super 250s on the market.
@crimsonflame242 technically yes, but the new one is not as sporty as the old ones were. There used to be a huge range of super 250s, but now sadly it seems the market has died for them. Now there's only one left, and it's more of a cruiser and less of a screamer than they used to be
@addys Couldn't agree more... the SV650 may not win against inline 4 600s in the straights, but with late braking techniques and a decent rider it will always keep up with or beat the inline 4s on a road with even just a few turns. The low weight, low center of gravity, and very responsive engine torque make the SV a fantastic and fun bike to throw around... if you buy one you'll soon find yourself wanting to do suspension upgrades instead of engine upgrades. The SV lives for the twisties
@addys sv650s is a great bike but if you live in the country where all the roads are straight sv650s is missing some power. For me sv1000s is the perfect bike for the money and its also much cheaper on insurance than any 600cc supersport. To bad they dont make them no more as I will be shoping for a new bike next year and the only choice of sv is 650. I wish suzuki would bring sv1000s back
@addys 250's are unfair compared to 1000's, because we'll be talking to stroke, which means a high power-to-weight ratio, put some nice tires on em and you've got yourself a winner already.
@addys Amen to that, I bought one as my 1st bike, I have since de-restricted it back to it's full power, and my neighbour on his R1 can leave me on a long straight road, but in the twisty bits I can easily keep up, he's been riding for 20 years and says he feels faster on the SV on the twisty roads
Not a major fan of these. The new ones look nice but their very uncomfortable and their not that powerful. Its really a newbie bike but a decent one at that.
Im a fan of V-twin bikes. Too bad im still a learner yet to ride a entree bike. But if there is a SV650 in the coming years i would have consider bout buying one.
@hellicks Oh! Hahaha! My apologies to Suzuki! Gladius. The sword for a Gladiator, I should have spotted that. SV650 is a brilliant bike anyway. So I guess the Gladius will be to. ;~)
@hoyaxc yeah the same problem im in :( going to check out the gsxr 600/750 this summer tho and might upgrade even tho i would miss the sound too much :((

Problably a good, solid bike, but for me it's all GSX-R1000, man. Nothing else compares and I won't buy anything else, and certainly not a smaller displacement engined bike: )
