i was 9 yrs old at the time. would have sunday lunch with mum, dad & bro, then sit down to watch the big match, then me, bro & 10 other friends would all pile out of our houses & have a good kickabout outside for a cpl of hours. this happened every week lol what great memories. those were the days :)
Spine chilling music! and teams made up of BRITISH players, if there was a foreign player he was a novelty. Was the football as good a quality then? yes it was!
Completely agree with comments below. Football today stinks of big corporate business along with greedy, mercenary, unloyal players who's signature on a contract means f-all. Players today may have pace they maybe fit and athletic, but they don't have any natural skill or any hart.
One of the best comments made on youtube. completely agree entirely with your view on this. elequently put. id only add one other word - sanitised. Thanks.
What great memories this brings back, 2.30 on a sunday afternoon, Brian Moore proudly bigging up the main game as the div2 clash between Millwall and Luton, while your ma served up the roast dinner... Top stuff kingsroadBLUES, cheers for this, keep them coming!
The Chelsea goal was scored by Brian Bason (Who rembermber Brian Bason then???)against Carlisle United, not Stanners. Bason was supposedly injured just seconds before he unleashed that thunderbolt. The Carlisle goal was an absolute cracker as well, in fact better than Bason's goal. Cheers.
what i would give to go back to those times. i was born in 1965

had to laugh when I saw that ridiculous goal staring at 0:28. It looks as if it's against Scotland, was it Wales scoring?

Great memories. Especially the clips from the cup final that year where West Ham beat Fulham. Who remembers Alan Taylor ?
0.10-0.13 great clip of Bobby Moore just getting on with it after defeat. No silly weeping or hysterics like we get today.
0.26-0.28 great clip of the ref having a sprint. In those days all the refs looked like your grandad.
0.38 great nancy boy push. Today he would be carrying a knife down his socks.
Yes the modern game stinks compared to this.

You've only got to watch this intro to realise that back then football really MEANT something.
It was about sport, local pride, characters, a good laugh, a bit of drama... and mud.
We think we've still got those things today, but we haven't... Not in the same way.
Now, we get football processed and delivered through the filter of multi-million pound corporations.
It's now pre-packed, hermetically sealed and delivered to our front rooms, free of any contaminations... Like soul and heart.

Yes, remember "The Big Match" very well.
The 70's and 80's was a great era for British football.
Pity they don't make like this anymore.
