The 2 minute monologue about Palin is daft - why go on for so long when the man is waiting right there in the green room and can tell the audience about it himself?
@jerryhello100 you are right. i think Cavett was one of the best hosts ever. he had really great guest and talked with them in a very respectful and interesting way. they didnt just talked about stuff like: 'so you have a new movie out now....' like today. they really discussed about all kinds of things.
@Cosmic86x Absolutely. I really don't understand all the complaints about him. Who knows, maybe he goes over some heads, uses words that people don't understand, or arcane references? I'm not sure, I don't get it. I find him charming; witty, well-spoken, and he asks questions that carry substance.
@jerryhello100 -- I completely agree. Cavett is extremely low-key but he seems sharp and in his quiet way he's very funny. The owl-stretching sketch suggestion in a tiny bit of genius!

How is it that Dick Cavett's late night talk show go from a network favorite to being relegated to PBS, and then into oblivion?

Dick Cavett is one of the greatest American treasures.

@cookieflower
Cavett is from an age where the interviewers were well informed and legitimate, and the audience had an attention span greater than a Bananna-Slug.
bozodeathgod 2 months ago
@bozodeathgod Apparently the American audience wasn't informed at all.

Shall we just agree they are all gorgeous? I mean, Terry Jones wasn't quite so much back in the day but he's filled into himself nicely as he aged.

LOL I like how he says every movie nowadays is a re-make and this was 29 years before virtually EVERY big movie is a remake.

Why does everyone always hate on Dick Cavett? I think he's alright. I like the show anyways.

@jerryhello100 exactly. his interviews with Orson Welles, Katharine Hepburn & Bette Davis were great as well! and with Marlon Brando of course ;)

Dick Cavett is/was such a tool. And then we get to Michael Palin. :-)

That's his style. I never got his appeal at first, but he was actually maybe the best interviewer of his era.

But to be honest, I thought the Cavett/Cleese interview was more interesting. And somehow funnier too. Hmm...
