Thats awesome, Its been my dream for years to go either to Montana or North Dakota for prairie dogs but thing is I don't know a soul around those parts. These squirrel sized ones here in Idaho just don't cut it, I hear theres some mean Native American prairie dog recipes as well hahhaha If you're feeling lucky.
figuring how i live in Montana and do own a ranch with beef and horses gophers, prairie dogs and so on can kill a horse or a cow. why? because if a horse breaks its leg.... it has to be put down. it will never make a full recovery. so in fact killing these animals is in the best interest. and how is this inhumane? those prairie dogs don't even here the gun go off. they don't even know what hit them. and if you must bitch and complain about "animal abuse" don't watch the damn video! simple?

@pitchfork454, those evil prairie dogs coexisted with American bison for centuries, then cattle replaced bison after the latter were almost exterminated by the same types who take potshots at prairie dogs today. Study some natural history before preaching your superficial talking-points.
I have cut way down on beef consumption for health reasons and also because they trample so much habitat. Cattle are the true invasive species, but it's not "fun" to use them for target practice.

@pitchfork454 There is no need for a bigger caliber, just use Barnes Varmint Grenade bullets. They do an impressive amount of damage for a .224 bullet :)

What would you guess is the avg distance you see on prarie dog hunts. My father and I are looking to get to one and we are debating between 22mag , .223 and .243 since we already have the rifles. Everyone, please let me know your thoughts. Hunt is eastern border of Colorado if that is going to make any difference. Please explain what variations in location as far as distance to target / avg distance on terrains. Thanks in advance
