It's different and ok but he fluff's the lyrics on a couple of occasions. The most important thing is that a song like this has to be sung by an Irishman. So many of them were used as cannon fodder in the Napoleonic War, that's what the piece is about. 67% of Wellington's army was Irish. 80% of the deaths were Irish!
Would you expect a white man to sing JOSHUA FIT DE BATTLE OF JERICO?.
Or an English man to sing the Republican Soldiers Song ? I'm sorry Bob it just don't work, but nice try.
@EamonLoingsigh if we're comparing voices, Andy Irvine wins hands down. Paul Brady?? there's a reason he doesn't sing on the planxty albums. Dylan's version kicks ass.
this dosnt suit him in anyway .... if he would sing it with his normal voice !

Now then, I'm a Dylan fan with the best of 'em, but on this one.......nah....
Sounds like he's just been hit over the head by a trusty shillelagh.

@InParticularNobody Now then, I guess you're not really a Dylan fan, after all.

Eamon, the version on the classic Andy Irvine and Paul Brady album is sung by Paul not by Andy and is the definitive version for many people.
