R.I.P to the losses in this horrific accident, but also god bless for the 4 to survive anything like this. All because a repair was not done "properly", no hate towards the mechanic/repairmen. Prayers are with the families who are ever so likely mourning to this day :'( 祝福神
The thing is that if a plane is damaged from a previous incident, it shouldn't be taken that lightly as Japan Airlines did, it should keep monitoring the plane every considerable time for safety, maybe not take the plane out of service for a long time, but routinely inspect the plane in the part where it was previously damaged. If Japan Airlines had done this then maybe this disaster could have been avoided, a previously damaged & repaired plane CAN'T BE COMPLETELY TRUSTED!
You're right, he couldn't resist the pressure he felt, the Boeing people should also feel this way because they didn't do the repair correctly, not to commit suicide but only to feel guilty for the deaths of 520 people.
Airplanes are kill-people machines. The good ones kill less people than worses. The statistchal data there're no rebiatility, they count little taxi incidents as overall data. In a REAL air crash, everybody dies.
many people frooze to death as the jap authorities would not let the nearby american military base help out. People need to swallow their damn pride and let others help in this situation. The russians did the same thing with the kursk submarine incident.
This is soo sad. This is why I'm scared of planes. I can imagine the girl's mother must have grabbed on to them to dear life, to protect them as much as they could on impact, allowing them a greater chance or survival? It's amazing they survived.
I have absolute respect for the victims of this crash but, scared of an airplane? Travelling by aeroplane is the safest way to travel, I mean look how many car crashes you hear on the news, compare that to maybe 1-2 plane crashes every year.
Man, get over it, he is rescuing her from an aeroplane crash, so as to get to the hospital as quickly as possible. No one gives a shit, I mean its like life or death, who cares if the man is in an awkward position, she just wants to survive.
This human error accident happened in the year1985. Feedmecoolshit is right that the rescue effort was too slow. But from wat I know, rescue team could not get to the site on time was becos the area which the aircraft crashed, was on mountainous area. And by the time the resuce team got there was morning. And another thing was that the authority was not able to locate the crashed site, so this leads to another slow action of rescuing in time!
there could have been many more survivors but the rescue effort was tto slow and i am lead to believe that someone in authority decided that no-one could have survived so in fact waited until morning to begin the search!
reading the posts here, all i will say is: no man is another's keeper, but where we can aide, embetter or save another's life, limb or sanity, we should lend a stronger hand to a weaker one.
money and reputation will not help you sleep at night as a good deed will.
An off duty Stewardess of the same company, and a mother and her daughter. The first two were sucked up into empty Fuselage, which acted as some sort of shielding, and the daughter happened to be small enough to get pinned in between some wreckage and seating.
If I still remember, all three went out of it with just bruising and one with a broken bone.

Lol too bad the japanes didn't let the Americans save plp. from the suvivors own words there were many more plp that could have lived. most died becuase of the cold. We had a helicopter there 20 min after the crash but we were told to leave by japanes authorities. (took them 8 hrs to get there)

It blew the pressurised bulkhead at the rear as a result of bad maintenance. It was an explosive decompression which took most of the tail section in cluding rudder and elements of the elevators and horizontal stabilisers with it. All the hydraulics went after that following which it was pretty much game over. Bloody good flying to stay up for as long as it did.
If the SDF called the American assistance back, shame shame shame. Reminds me of an IL62 crash in Poland in the 80's. They could've all survived but the military field refused to let them land. Is human life not worth saving?
there were actually more people were survive.. but due to slow rescue which they only rescue after 12 hours the crash... Many had die due to injury and cold weather...
The American military was on the scene within 20 minutes or so, but the Self-Defense force called them off and said they'd take care of it. They didn't come back until the morning was almost everyone was already dead. Read the Wikipedia article, especially the 'discussion' section.
the japanese authorities were idiots to think that they could take care of it. In an emergency you can-t have too much help. they probably didn-t want the spotlight taken away to the americans. I can bet if they were able to rescue them more people would have survived.
It makes me sick, I think she's missing an arm. The wikipedia article said they were left there overnight because they thought there were no survivors. -_-;
Pilots should be keen as well when emergency arouse. Try to fly back to landing on the runway is not the solution especially when hydraulics go out slow and surely. I would of land immediately in waters of the ocean and save some passenger alot that way. These airliners I wonder, what kind of proceedure they have anyway for emergency like that?

Whether or not the facts say its safer, you should respect that people can be scared of airplanes.
It's like saying you shouldn't be scared of lions because you don't hear too many lion attacks everyday.
Also if you research there are is a bigger percentage of plane crashes with respect to number of aircraft produced.

You are very correct. The damage was so critical that the aircraft went completely out of control.
You wrote "as a result of bad maintenance".
I would rather say, "as a result of bad repair".
4 years before the crash, this aircraft touched ground with its tail on landing. This might damaged the tail constructure.
