  • R.I.P to the losses in this horrific accident, but also god bless for the 4 to survive anything like this. All because a repair was not done "properly", no hate towards the mechanic/repairmen. Prayers are with the families who are ever so likely mourning to this day :'( 祝福神

  • Airplane safety are 1% better now.

    Don't worry everybody.

  • I wonder if they are still alive today.

  • 外傷なし?

  • The thing is that if a plane is damaged from a previous incident, it shouldn't be taken that lightly as Japan Airlines did, it should keep monitoring the plane every considerable time for safety, maybe not take the plane out of service for a long time, but routinely inspect the plane in the part where it was previously damaged. If Japan Airlines had done this then maybe this disaster could have been avoided, a previously damaged & repaired plane CAN'T BE COMPLETELY TRUSTED!

  • thats why a guy who checked the maintenance of the plane commited suicide when this happened.

  • You're right, he couldn't resist the pressure he felt, the Boeing people should also feel this way because they didn't do the repair correctly, not to commit suicide but only to feel guilty for the deaths of 520 people.

  • Airplanes are kill-people machines. The good ones kill less people than worses. The statistchal data there're no rebiatility, they count little taxi incidents as overall data. In a REAL air crash, everybody dies.

  • can anyone translate this for me?

  • many people frooze to death as the jap authorities would not let the nearby american military base help out. People need to swallow their damn pride and let others help in this situation. The russians did the same thing with the kursk submarine incident.

  • Clearly shows that when its your time to go its your time to go..... RIP to all the victims my respect goes out to all of them.

  • i'm amazed. lucky 4 to survive that intense of a crash.

  • imagine being thrown like a tin can aganst a mountain with jet engines with 523 other people. Imagine. Pure luck.

  • i know. goin 700 mph directly at a mounitin. it's usaly all over by then and say your last prayer kind of stuff

  • This is soo sad. This is why I'm scared of planes. I can imagine the girl's mother must have grabbed on to them to dear life, to protect them as much as they could on impact, allowing them a greater chance or survival? It's amazing they survived.

  • I have absolute respect for the victims of this crash but, scared of an airplane? Travelling by aeroplane is the safest way to travel, I mean look how many car crashes you hear on the news, compare that to maybe 1-2 plane crashes every year.

  • Whether or not the facts say its safer, you should respect that people can be scared of airplanes.

It's like saying you shouldn't be scared of lions because you don't hear too many lion attacks everyday.

Also if you research there are is a bigger percentage of plane crashes with respect to number of aircraft produced.

  • Man, get over it, he is rescuing her from an aeroplane crash, so as to get to the hospital as quickly as possible. No one gives a shit, I mean its like life or death, who cares if the man is in an awkward position, she just wants to survive.

  • This human error accident happened in the year1985. Feedmecoolshit is right that the rescue effort was too slow. But from wat I know, rescue team could not get to the site on time was becos the area which the aircraft crashed, was on mountainous area. And by the time the resuce team got there was morning. And another thing was that the authority was not able to locate the crashed site, so this leads to another slow action of rescuing in time!

  • there could have been many more survivors but the rescue effort was tto slow and i am lead to believe that someone in authority decided that no-one could have survived so in fact waited until morning to begin the search!

  • reading the posts here, all i will say is: no man is another's keeper, but where we can aide, embetter or save another's life, limb or sanity, we should lend a stronger hand to a weaker one.

money and reputation will not help you sleep at night as a good deed will.

  • 12歳だったこの女の子のお祖母さんがこの映像を見て

    テレビに駆け寄り、画面を撫でたという話を思い出し

    ました。

    女の子と同世代の私は、今思い出すと涙が出ます。

  • oh my gosh! so sad! but i feel so lucky for the survivor! oh lord!! hope those souls in peace..

  • Yea, three I believe.

An off duty Stewardess of the same company, and a mother and her daughter. The first two were sucked up into empty Fuselage, which acted as some sort of shielding, and the daughter happened to be small enough to get pinned in between some wreckage and seating.

If I still remember, all three went out of it with just bruising and one with a broken bone.

  • Actually there were four survivors, the three you mentioned and another little girl found in a tree.

  • How about you have a mature argument instead of cussing every other word. It was a tragedy but why would you be disrespectful to prove to someone to respect Americans?

    Chill out please.

  • Uncontrollable - Tribute to Flight 123..... look that up and watch it

  • Lol too bad the japanes didn't let the Americans save plp. from the suvivors own words there were many more plp that could have lived. most died becuase of the cold. We had a helicopter there 20 min after the crash but we were told to leave by japanes authorities. (took them 8 hrs to get there)

  • why did the japs tell the americans to leave? this is peoples lives, not a competition!

  • shut up.

  • Because we're not as popular there as you may think, and the Japanese are Xenophobic, which would only imply that the JSDF [Japanese Military] and a lot of Officials would be embarrassed if our Military were to rescue Japanese Passengers from a Japanese Accident.

Implications being - Japanese Authorities for the most part are very scared of losing reputation to foreigners, especially the American Military in Japan.

  • ah, ok that would explain it, so they value their reputation over lives? They certainly were that way in world war II!

  • Sad, but true.

I wouldn't try to compare their likeness to the Japanese of World War II, though. It's just a different Culture from ours, and it's only for the best to accept it that way. Sure sucks that lives were lost because of their choice, though we still don't know if any more would've been rescued by a lone US Chopper..

Remembers, this was in the mountains. It does take some time to go through the mountains :-/.

Oh well, it's the way of life.

  • yeah its a bit tough but there were survivors weren't there?

  • 4 survived....

one of those was found up a tree.

  • I agree .. we are talking about human life here.. should put whatever pride and reputation aside... This is more than 20 years ago, does this pride/reputation thing still exist in Japan, I mean in terms of military?

  • oh my god the girl lost her arm

  • The girl(Keiko Kawakami) didn't lose her arm.

She lost parents and the younger sister who was multiplying due to this accident.

  • multiplying?

  • no she didnt. its just resting on the arm of the rescue man while the other one dangles down.

  • miraculous

  • shinjiteta sono kiseki

  • jesus! this is one MIRACLE!!!!! a lot of G forces when this 747 crashes... how? god blees the 4 people thats leave alive this terrible accident, and RIP to pilots crew and all passengers ...

  • How did a few people live?

  • great question ... that was a miracle?

  • Every year around the world there´s many aircraft accidents. Here in Brazil we had a terrible one with the TAM aircraft in São Paulo and the investigators are blamming the pilot which I desagree! As the Fokker 100 the Airbus A 320 has shown many failures around the world. I´m affraid to travel by plane in these days!

  • Turboboy: The Brazilian Government should expand Guarulhos and limit flights to and from Congonhas.

  • Unfortuanely the only thing the government here in Brazil does is increase taxes and still our money!!

  • BTW I'm not sure if there is actually an issue with the A320 or if it is an issue with TAM's A320...

  • Thank you for posting this. I had a dear friend on this flight who had just left NYC to return to Japan, her home. With it's anniversary coming, my thoughts were on Flight 123 again. I just found these youtube clips.I miss you Yukiko. My heart goes out to all the families.

  • god loved them

  • Man the rescue team need to go imideatly when something like that happens, but god bless those 4 people who survid,it must be sad if that little girl was flying whit her family cause when she got rescude she must know that she lost her family. But really ad video!

  • OMG There were survivors???? God bless them !!!

  • there were four. one was found up in a tree. a twelve year old girl.

  • it must've been horrible waking up out of your unconciousness to find yourself alive out of the hundreds that've died. god bless the 4 that lived and RIP to those who've lost their lives.

  • It blew the pressurised bulkhead at the rear as a result of bad maintenance. It was an explosive decompression which took most of the tail section in cluding rudder and elements of the elevators and horizontal stabilisers with it. All the hydraulics went after that following which it was pretty much game over. Bloody good flying to stay up for as long as it did.

  • You are very correct. The damage was so critical that the aircraft went completely out of control.

You wrote "as a result of bad maintenance".

I would rather say, "as a result of bad repair".

4 years before the crash, this aircraft touched ground with its tail on landing. This might damaged the tail constructure.

    Sorry for my poor English.

  • If the SDF called the American assistance back, shame shame shame. Reminds me of an IL62 crash in Poland in the 80's. They could've all survived but the military field refused to let them land. Is human life not worth saving?

  • there were actually more people were survive.. but due to slow rescue which they only rescue after 12 hours the crash... Many had die due to injury and cold weather...

  • The American military was on the scene within 20 minutes or so, but the Self-Defense force called them off and said they'd take care of it. They didn't come back until the morning was almost everyone was already dead. Read the Wikipedia article, especially the 'discussion' section.

  • you are correct. that's how it happened.

  • the japanese authorities were idiots to think that they could take care of it. In an emergency you can-t have too much help. they probably didn-t want the spotlight taken away to the americans. I can bet if they were able to rescue them more people would have survived.

  • Poor woman, just survived one air disaster and next thing they yanking her back up into another aircraft, I wouldve grabbed a tree and not let go.

  • It makes me sick, I think she's missing an arm. The wikipedia article said they were left there overnight because they thought there were no survivors. -_-;

  • crazy that 4 people survived a crash like this

  • 10days later of this crush,i got airplane from haneda(what is more,,,JAl)to fukuoka.

i wanted to use sinkansen but too far to fukuoka from tokyo(over 1000km 600mile )

  • This is the crash that Kyu Sakamoto died in. He was the most popular singer from Japan ever. He had the worldwide hit "Sukiyake".

  • Pilots should be keen as well when emergency arouse. Try to fly back to landing on the runway is not the solution especially when hydraulics go out slow and surely. I would of land immediately in waters of the ocean and save some passenger alot that way. These airliners I wonder, what kind of proceedure they have anyway for emergency like that?

  • Easy to say this. If you know anything about this crash, then you should know that they lost their complete tail. The plane was out of control, and believe me: ditching a plane will always be the LAST solution during an emergency. If possible, put it on land. I'm a flight attendant, really small chance of surviving a ditch.

  • you cant do shit. With no hydolics the stick is and pedals are dead. IF you ever had an air bubble in your brake lines on your car it feels the same way the brake pedal goes to the floor with no resistance. They could do some throttle steering but they really couldnt go up or down

  • This is what happens when airlines stiff on maintenance:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_Airlines_Flight_191

  • they didnt stiff. What happened was the mechanics left in the middle of the shift with out completing hte engine removeal. The fork lift holding the engine had a small leak in the hydolics which allowed the engine to move and crack the frame

  • So sad that apart from 4 people the rest just died.

  • aircraft crash shouldn't be happened.

  • damn... crazy. i guess women ARE stronger than men..

  • no, just more rubbery
