A fascinating device, the main LSI chip looks really lets say 'alien', somewhat similar to Rockwell quad inline chips from the early to mid 70s. Often seen in LED calculators of that era.
BTW I had a Rapri brand Soviet made cassette deck, and the VFD in that was very similar, except the one I had didn't have cyrillic lettering in it. Also with this Soviet made cassette deck the tape transport itself, was maid by Sharp of Japan rather than been of eastern bloc manufacture.
Thank's for the information! VU-meters need to be slow. There are standards regarding VU meters and how slow the display need to be. That's wy I kept the original electronics ... and because I don't like to throw things away ... ;-)
hey, you mentioned "spec sheet", Where is the spec sheet? I have the Russian schematic from the eBay auction when i bought a few, but the issue is, i cant make heads or tails out of that Russian schematic. no specs on it.

what song is that?

Interesting falloff and the "staggered" DIL main chip in this one, mine all have the same common 16DIL chips.
Usually only see these IC's in Master systems, Rockwell modems and old handheld calculator/toy games of the era.

Sweet. I haven't seen a square ceramik disk kapacitor for a long time. :)
5VDC for the grid should work great. Some VFD's will experience uneven illumination with DC grid voltage.
But from the vid it simply looks great.

Hi, I also did some experiementing with the "naked" display using dc voltage for the filament. And yes, it looks "uneven" if you do.

These are my favorite VUs. I've got one I've modified from an old vintage tape deck and use it my studio. Super accurate and easy to read.
