i heard a way to pick a guitar to start playing with is to just look at your 3 favourite guitarists or sounding bands and pick one like that, so i like kirk hammet, smashing pumpkins sound so which guitar would be best

That's a bad way to find a guitar- the guitars those players use are too expensive for someone just learning- just try lots of guitars and don't let looks trump playability or sound.

It you're just starting out playing arch-top jazz boxes, and price is an issue, you can't go wrong with one of those Ibanez Artcores. They are decent very playable guitars, especially for the $400 or so than they cost, and they look as cool as a $10,000 D'Angelico... well, maybe not that cool... but damn cool nonetheless.

I just replaced my strings with the D"Addario Pure Nickle

Blues/jazz rock .012-.051 with the wound G string

and it sounds much better than the plain pure nickles that I had on it is that what you use it sounds the same.
